PrO TiP: never upgrade the Speed, because it makes the Autopilot harder to take advantage a sharp maneuver from the Maneuverability Upgrade
Edit: i don't trust Auto-Brakes on the AI since the Maneuverability can get involved from the Default Speed. Upgrading them it's more like upgrading the Stock

I only use fighters for spotting so the best spotter fighter will be needed

That would be j-20 with highest speed and good visual range, I use them on every carrier except on the enterprise where I use p-125 as I have darkstar equipped to spot and p-125 does a great job at taking down enemy aircraft.
