One of the best content about Inreach Mini 2. Thank you for the explanation!! I just bought one and I trying to figure out how to use it! I'm trying to test before my trekking up to the mountains
Good informative video, but do I have to upload a planned route? Isn't possible to just turn on map share/tracking and have it share my current location, just so my family can see I am ok and still on the move (as opposed to being at the bottom of a ravine somewhere (like if my tracking stays at the same point for two or three cycles without a text from me, indicating a possible problem). I think what I'm trying to do is make it so my family can see that there may be an issue if I am unconscious and not able to text or hit the sos button. I am on a motorcycle, and sometimes I just take off and ride with no particular route in mind. I just see where the road takes me (within reason, If I am going to Death Vally or some very remote region I will try to give some kind of indication of whereI should be before hand).
Hi Rob801! No, you don't have to upload a trail. You can absolutely just turn on your tracking and go out and wing it! For me I've got my SOS button so even if no one knows where I'm going, they can see where I'm at, and like you said, still moving. I just like to import my trails to give my family a little more peace of mind so they know where I'm 'supposed' to be and whether I've started my trail yet. I also just think it's kind of a cool keepsake saying hey I'm going here, then seeing where I actually was and sending messages :)
@@shawncarsten thanks, yeah, I plan on always being able to hit the SOS button, but if I were for some reason unconscious or otherwise incapacitated at least my (adult) daughter or sister would know to react by my tracking being stationary for too long, if they don't hear from me.
Do you know if it’s possible to have different settings for the map depending on who I share it with? So for example, I my family to be able to send messages to me but not my friends.
Hi Rebecca, To my knowledge there's not a setting to individualize who can send you messages from MapShare. HOWEVER, I'm wondering if you try the following if it would get you the result you're looking for: 1. Uncheck the boxes so that MapShare viewers CANNOT send you messages 2. Before your trip, send messages to each your family member's phones directly from your Garmin or the Explore app. 3. Have your family members save the number they get your message from as 'Rebecca's Garmin' or something similar. Then they should be able to send messages to that number any time they want to contact you, while any mapshare viewers won't have the option to send you messages.
Oh hey, yeah you're right. They must have just changed that in the last week or so. Looks like the same information is now under 'MAPSHARE' instead of SOCIAL.

It weird, when I try to share MapShare, it share's with some emails and not others.
I dont even see a SOCIAL option when I login
