Video's like these are gold, especially for newer bikers who haven't any previous motorbike experience. Plus you yourself learnt a lot from doing it and showing us. I think the sooner you get your full licence the options if what get are wide open, especially second hand. However it's also prudent to get as much biking experience so that the basics become second nature and you only need concentrate on observations and safety whilst riding as it seems that is what the tests are geared towards and safe handling of the bike of course
got my cbt in a few weeks and ill be getting a mutt. love how they look. know nothing about bikes, so finding your learning curve very useful! keep them coming
Well analysed and fixed by your good self! It seems to me everything we try to do these days has a waiting time, or delay. My shout would be to buy a new matching indicator to replace the other one ( the paint is peeling off it anyway ) fit it myself and, cancel the dealer repair. Of course this would mean I'd have to live with any future warranty claim possibly being rejected, but I myself would be prepared for that and accept it. You're a clever chap and I'm certain you will make the right decision for yourself.
I've just bought a 2nd hand 2020 bullit bluroc and the left front and rear right indicators aren't working. So I've ordered 4 new led ones and gonna put them on. Gotta say it's very poor customer service from your dealer!!! Definitely worth letting Mutt HQ know as if the brand is to grow it needs to look after its customers 😊
I would put the none working one back on when taking into dealer as they would say you have broken the warranty but at least you can ride it for now so happy biking 🏍
I bought a brand new Honda 1300 in 2005, took it back for a first service only. Completed all work since myself. 50K miles on it now. Sack off the warranty, obviously not worth the drama for an indicator. That said, your dealer probably knows this so it’s a win win for them!
Thanks, I will do some more soon. The indicator was bought from a random ebay listing. I did revisit it to see if they had a second matching one but they had no more listed 😔
I think it's disappointing that the dealers making you wait that amount ov time ,it's probably a common problem they no about. Why don't you ring dealer ask if they keep light in-stock , wait till you have service done ,tell them light is faulty ,put old one back on ,try get it done in one hit ,don't waste your holiday . 👍
I have the same fault with my Mutt Mustiff but with the left indicator. Weird. Its my only vehicle and I need it to get to work! Will probably attempt to repair it the same way you have. Where did you purchase that indicator may I ask? Great vid by the way
It does seem like a common fault from the amount of posts on FB groups etc. I got the indicator I put on temporarily from an eBay seller, I think I was lucky as it was just an odd one they had. Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Simply not good enough from the dealer Alex? Do they expect you to stop using the bike until they sort it for you, not a good advertisement for mutt motorcycles dealership. Thanks for sharing!!
I don't believe you had unrealistic expectations, how long would a repair of taken a mechanic, especially as you solved the problem so promptly. Only my opinion. Thanks for sharing!
I think that service (or lack of service) is absolutely disgusting. First, I would try and find out who is the most senior person (CEO) of the manufacturers. Then I would make a telphone call to him/her personally, to explain to him/her (politely) what poor service the dealers are offering, and ask him to come up with a realistic solution. I hope that will have the desired effect. Don't be shy about asking to talk to him/her directly. Don't be fobbed off with a secretary, or some other person. If that is not successful I would try Trading Standards, as the motorcycle is dangerous and not fit for purpose; and the dealer and manufacturers are clearly not interested in making it safe to use. Alternatively, turn up at their factory in Birmingham. It is right in the middle of the country, so can't be too far away. Now can I get on my soapbox about how buying new vehicles does not necessarily make life easy and trouble free? They can be just as unreliable as an old well maintained vehicle (if not more so). The idea that "new is better and trouble free" is misleading propaganda put out by manufacturers and retailers to keep us coming back for more. Finally Alex, what are you waiting for? Don't get your full license next year. No time like the present. Take the lessons and pass the test. Then buy a well maintained second hand bike a bit bigger. (No need to go for a large super-bike). Small to medium bikes can be just as much fun.
Thanks Neale, I think you are right about new vehicles, I will definitely be buying secondhand next time! As for the full license - well, cost is the main issue at the moment, not a cheap thing to do but it's definitely on the list :)
Great comment here, all of these Chinese bikes seem to have recurring issues and the more people who get trading standards involved the better. Just because these are deemed "cheap" , well I'm sorry but £3k isn't cheap to everyone, only in comparison to say a Yamaha xsr125 costing nearer £5k, and that's taking the biscuit for a 125. Warranty claims for small stuff like this should be dealt with as parts sent directly to the customer if they are confident to do so. If not, dealers need to be getting the parts in stock and get the customer sorted first as priority before having to deal with the supplier. Remember, your contract is with the retailer, the onus is on them to sort out your issues in a reasonable amount of time. In this situation a small problem made the bike unroadworthy and as your example illustrates, put you in danger. Not sure why the obsession with LED blinkers anyway, would rather have a simple filament bulb.
Hello Alex, I’m thinking of getting the 250 Mastiff because I think they look the dogs bollocks, could I please trouble you to tell me what your overall opinion is of the bike.Cheers. Paul.
They do look great and I'm still pleased with it. I don't have much experience with other bikes but the 125 version is definitely slower than the Yamaha I did my CBT on. I like the feel of it more though as it feels a little more robust. Assembly seems a little patchy though, quite a few things were a bit loose on delivery. I've also spotted a few bits of messy welding. On the whole though I'm still glad I bought it.
@@ttxela Thankyou for your thoughts Alex, after much searching although I would prefer a 400cc it looks like I will be vouching for the 250 Mastiff tomorrow. Thanks again.
@@ttxela Hello Alex, I’m just coming up to 500 miles on my Mastiff 250 and I’ve stuck religiously to 4 to 5 thousand revs, it feels like it might have a little bit of poke when I come to open her up a bit more and I’m hoping I’ll be happy with the top end, I done a 70 mile round trip the other day and my arse was a bit sore but I’m getting used to the hard seat, when I park her up on a ride she does generate some interest which is good for conversation, I picked up a couple of brown goatskin panniers on eBay from Rajasthan and it looks nice, I also fitted some knee pads to the tank which make it look a bit darker, no problems yet and I think it’s a great little bike, cheers now.
You shouldn't have to wait that long just for something simple like a bulb . All the problem is the bulb mate mate mate had same problem with his 125cc the garage really good said I could change the bulb so I did and all works fine .

About a year old this video and you'll be pleased to hear I have now got my full licence. Triumph Street Triple and Suzuki Intruder in the garage 🙂👍

I am tempted to go this route, if only to get the bike back looking less lopsided.......
I also facing the right rear indicator doesn’t working, thanks for the video so i know how to take out the seat and testing the cable. Thank you.
No worries, indicators failing seems to be a pretty common fault on these.

Unfortunately it's Mutt HQ that are setting the policies that make warranty claims unnecessarily difficult 😕

Keep the Mastiff videos coming. Can I just ask if you have the link for where you brought the new indicator from please?

This is the ebay seller; www.ebay.co.uk/usr/hells-bells-classics?_trksid=p2047675.l2559
Sorry Alex we just think you and bikes just don't work lol. Informative video and warranty issues are a real pain, good luck.
🤣 Well there's always a problem to fix, that's for sure!
Could you please sent link so I can buy them?
Thanks
Unfortunately the ebay seller I bought from only had the one. I tried to buy another from them with no luck. ☹
Please can you post a link for the replacement indicator you purchased - many thanks
It came from eBay from a seller who only had a couple I'm afraid.

I would rule out taking days off work over it, replace the other side and get on with life. Then have a cup of tea and possibly some sponge cake!
That approach definitely has appeal......

You don't want to lose that 2yr Warranty this early.
Good point 🤔
I think you should contact dealer, & tell them that the fault has fixed it self. So no need to be looked at.
Trouble is the working one is a different colour 🤣🤔
I suppose for warranty purpose, put old one back on when it goes to be looked at.

Unfortunately these are sealed LED units so the whole indicator has to be changed whenever there is a problem :(
Bad earth Mike, I suspect.
I did wonder but it seems pretty clear either the LEDs are failing or a built in driver.
Get dealer to provide a loan machine until yours is fixed.
If only.........🙄
Don't be polite most of the cheap bike sales companies are the same quick to take your cash slow to give you any follow up service
That is certainly true 🥺
