One detail you missed about the Spirit of man artwork is that its inspired by the works by Salvador Dali, specifically the elephants (1948) and the temptation of St. Anthony (1946)
Well spotted. Also it's interesting to note that the falling building in the panic in the streets picture is taken from a photo from the blitz and the woman holding the girl in the bottom left of the picture, is a still from The Exorcist!
While editing I thought this summed up the artists quite well: Trim - The Engineer, Taylor - The Victorian, Goodfellow - The Alien. All done very nicely and each very distinctive to their own styles I think. :) For a very creepy depiction of the War Of The Worlds, here's the Gorey Tripods of Horror explained: th-cam.com/video/L3pKXkQi6j8/w-d-xo.html
This has shown me that more than one artist done the drawings, this i had no idea of , now this has answered my thoughts of why the tripods look different in each page .i always thought the feet had circular pads at the bottom. Really enjoying these videos of the insight of this magical LP
My favourite is Taylors Dead London Tripods painting which gives a truly epic sense of scale & entropy by showing the tiny crows feasting on the decomposing martians...
Another fire video 🔥. What o noticed in all of the designs is that they all share the bright and glowing green eyes which is the most thing that sticks out about them. Love it or not these are ideal to the history of the war of the worlds and their original album
These are THE martian fighting machines that embody the war of the worlds, we all think of them and know them because they are just so Iconic. I love those ones, their alien yet mosquito like appearance, the design of the martian technology all having a similar design, I love it.
It's always awesome to get a new upload from you. It's weird but at times I've wondered if a bit bonkers for analysing WOTW art and thinking of the ideas that went/go into the Martians and Tripods. 🙂🙂🙂
The picture of the building being toppled has been taken from a photograph during the blitz and the woman holding the girl in the bottom left, is a still from The Exorcist!
What a smash video once more, i didnt know that 3 different people were responsible for the illustrations of the tripods, sometimes you open my eyes to things i didnt know about some aspects of war of the worlds, would love to see more!
Very Nice Analysis! Man, I wish there was a WOTW Jeff Wayne Film TBH. Us WOTW Fans Should just Bunch up together and Team up for a Project like it already! I already got a Tripod model that is rigged, not saying we should use it (there's going to be better ones) and yea. I Already have plans for scenes in the Project, so if it ever happens, wish me (us) luck.
Peter Goodfellow's artwork of the fighting machine is probably my favorite from the original album, they just look so clean and realistic. Overall though, my favorite design is the 3d model tripod from the 2006 live show CGI movie. Everything about that version is just perfect, and its the best version of the fighting machine in any iteration of Jeff Wayne's or any other adaptation.
I'm surprised that you didn't do more of a comparison between the new generation remake and the original artwork, or how they have been added in to the live on stage production. Still great a video
Ah there you go it was Goodfellows picture that made me think they were on stilts as I stated in your previous video. I don't know if you and others are aware of this but my mother had a different vinyl version which was known as the "highlights" of war of the worlds which only had Goodfellows pictures. Plus on the front cover thunderchild is nowhere to be seen it's completely black and the tripod is just shooting the ground. This was my introduction to Jeff Wayne's war of the worlds and it wasn't until the re-release sometime after that I even knew of these other artists and designs.
I enjoyed this video, and it was fascinating to learn about Mike Trim and his great artwork! I had a connection to the album-I painted a piece of promo art here in Toronto, Canada in 1979, for the Canadian release by CBS Records of "Thunderchild" as a single. I just added a short video about it on my channel for anyone who's interested. Thanks!
So my request of you covering wotw VHS did not go well since neither of us know what the hell it is I have another idea! You made a video about the tripods vs napoleon but the real question is the tripods vs the doctor from dr who
I've been thinking about doing my own wotw VHS series, so maybe something will come of that. :) I was actually going to do a Doctor Who War of the worlds video last year for the 60th anniversary but didn't get around to it for some reason. That's why I took down a TH-cam Short I did about a recent dr who/wotw audio story crossover, as I wanted to talk more about it in a proper video, as well as other instances of them crossing over. Fun fact: H.G. Wells was a companion to The Sixth Doctor on screen for a story. Or so I read. I haven't seen the episode he's in, which is why I haven't done that video yet. But when I watch it I'll do it. :)
What i like about Jeff Wayne's Tripod is that it actually looks like the Martians, I think this is a good feature as we (humans) base our vehicles off ourselves.
what if the martians invaded the odd world universe with there war machines it would be a bloodbath they would kill every thing in sight the sligs would get vaporizer by the heat ray weapons there guns would do nothing to the tripods

@@robanderson473isn’t that the dead body of Beth?
@@robanderson473 it's actually titled "Destruction of 23-25 Queen Victoria Street"

This has to be the best wotw channel on TH-cam!
I see you are covering a lot of War of the Worlds stuff. It's all very interesting. I am a life long fan, and watching these videos is very fun.

8:41 you can see Nathaniel at the bottom right
I'm so glad you covered these pods, these and the 2005s are my favorites

05:46 Definatley a nod to Temptation of Saint Anthony by Salvador Dali

Always wounded where the Spirit of Mayan’s tripods feet were at

OMG im so sorry i didnt see this sooner i was on break lol. But thanks for making all of this TWOTW content that I adore X3

The Sprit of Man painting always looked like a still from an animated movie because of the crispness of the designs & film grain on top.
I’ve always wondered How the Jeff Wayne’s War of the world martians would fair against the modern day powers of 2023

When I first read this, I was initially expecting you to include the versions of the Martian Machines from the video games.
I'm surprised that you didn't do more of a comparison between the new generation remake and the original artwork, or how they have been added in to the live on stage production. Still great a video
can you review the Pegasus Hobbies war of the worlds models? there really cool.
02:45 the building falling is taken from a photo during air raid in either WW1 OR WW2

The art work is curious in showing the heat ray with the description by the narrator as being "an invisible ray of heat" and "invisible death"
Will there be more Oddworld content? I need more moolah!
So my request of you covering wotw VHS did not go well since neither of us know what the hell it is I have another idea! You made a video about the tripods vs napoleon but the real question is the tripods vs the doctor from dr who

@@pupbennyvery interesting
The last illustration was also a parody of the surreal painting by Dali
@pupbenny could you do the ps1 and rts game pods
Do a video of the unused David A. Hardy tripods.
The more I think of it, the tripods are glorified Martian robotics.
Why do all of my obsessions come back to Warhammer?!
Same here LoL
So how did you make the greters game
Uullaa
5:20
How on Earth did you not notice this artwork is inspired by Salvador Dali elephant's paintings??
those Martians are such showoffs

I think they're crap. They couldn't possibly walk with that leg arrangement.
