South Africa Buried! Snow Storm Trapping Thousands of Vehicles in Gauteng, KZN
The severe freezing cold temperature has claimed one life after a taxi with passengers was trapped in snow in KwaZulu-Natal since Friday. Roland Robertson said the person was stuck in a taxi travelling from Johannesburg to KZN when they were forced to stop due to the snow. Motorists are being urged to stay at home and avoid using the N3 from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng as relief and rescue efforts are meted out to those entrapped in the snow in the Midlands. Affected roads are N3, Van Reenen’s Pass to Harrismith, R57 from Qwaqwa to Kestell, and R712 from Bethlehem to Harrismith via Qwaqwa. Parts of the Eastern Cape including Gqeberha, Penhoek Pass, R58 in Barkly East, and Mountain Shadow near Elliot have also reported snowfall.
