- Radical acceptance is a practice that we can use to keep us in the present moment and honor all our feelings without letting them take over. We get to decide how we respond to the ups and downs of life, and if we're open to it, we can even have fun along the way. Maria is a speaker, author, storyteller, dancer and empowerment coach. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
I had a great therapist that taught me radical acceptance when in an abusive marriage, it saved me in so many ways until I was able to leave.
Same
I'm researching TEDx and, you're the first speaker that I stayed and
listened to the whole talk. Thanks!
Love it! ''Well, that happened. Now what?'
Drama free - Solution oriented! Amen.
Maria is the only person I could think of that could deliver such an impactful message in a playful yet meaningful way. She makes you laugh but still delivers the message precisely so that you still get the point she's making. I thought of so many situations I could have benefited from radical acceptance and will remember this as we're only getting older, and this is truly the way to live a peaceful and meaningful life.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and thoughtfully comment. I appreciate you! 💜
This is why I love mindfulness meditation. I try to practice it every morning, using a mindfulness workbook called "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels. It's been very helpful. It's so important to learn to let go and move on.
Thanks for the book recommendation! I’m gonna try it over winter break :)
From today I become a practitioner of radical acceptance. Wonderful Maria😍
Maria is the real deal. She walks the talk everyday and is an inspirational ball of non-stop positive energy. Her sincerity and enthusiasm for life is contagious. Catch it!
Oooooo. I was slowly fading. I needed this. Thank you SOOOOOOO very much for this ted talk. You have no idea.
Wow... Maria has an ability of taking any "negative" experience and turning into a powerful and motivating speech. Great message...
This TedTalk couldn’t of come my way at a better time I truly needed this message and feel ready to take on the challenge that came my way today ✊🏽❤️
Looove the energy of your delivery! Priceless! ❤
I'm listening to this on Easter Sunday whilst cleaning my Church!
HELLELUJAH!
CHRIST HAS RISEN!
Something that had been driving me crazy for days maybe even weeks in my mind went away for a moment when I said well that happened what now? I know it will probably come back but now I have five words to ask, I just have to remember them! If I could have done that yesterday it would have saved me hours of tears.
I LOVE how you framed this my friend, it is true - every single thing is an opportunity for a new adventure! So thrilled to see you on the big circle again!
This was beautiful. I had never heard this term before but I older brother, who was wise beyond his years, taught me and soooooo many other people this. I wish he was alive for me to show him this. I deal with his untimely demise with radical acceptance. Great job Maria.
I'm sorry for your loss Daryl. Thank you for your kind feedback.
Wonderful! Thank you!
Such a beautiful and inspiring energy you bring to all of us. Thank you for this talk and for turning your experiences into blessings for others to learn from. You remind me that we are all creators of our reality.

Amazing ... impactful
I’m curious as to how radical acceptance can be tapped into if she never had the opportunity to recover the files. I’m more interested in her story on how radical acceptance can help us accept things we can’t do anything about anymore
I appreciated her story and enjoyed her talk. But at the end I felt precisely the same. I understand that this kind of talk should be concise whilst successfully delivering a striking message. If no files could be recoved after all these efforts, my own guess would be she would just have to mentally recover and move on. The question is what would sustain our self-acceptance if we face a series of disappointments in both big and small life events
There is this form of therapy that uses the skill radical acceptance. It's hard. It is getting in your head the exact thing you just said, you can not change or do anything about. You truly embody that thought and truly comprehend that, that is where the radical acceptance comes in. It's surrendering to the realization that the current situation is what it is or that thing or person is what it is. You then can move on, cope, and do something different, better, or whatever because you are no longer holding on. I promise it's a great skill and dang it is hard but the more you practice, the better you become at it!
You also may have to do it more than once because you still have a memory you know? At least that's been my experience.
Loved this speech. Spot on and amazing job!
Always a great talk!!!
Thanks for this!

I lost 17000.00 on a bad financial decision andvi keep ruminating over it. I cant figure out why i did it. Feel like i blacked out. How do i accept this
I am also dealing with a similar situation. It sucks. I'm trying to accept it and figure out how to move forward.
Because in my life .i am no longer victim . dammmn
Brilliant
Radical isn't necessarily quick. Thorough and complete change. Fanatical.
Nothing about it needs to be fast.
This woman doesn't know what she is talking about and only 90 second into the talk.😮
Some of the people in the comments don’t get it.
People can only get it based on their own capacity. It’s fine.
tons of people lose their data on the computer
I feel like I am getting yelled at.
She needs to calm man
All this BS to bring a laptop to a repair shop?
You failed to understand the underlying message. That was an example of a bad situation and mostly how she used radical acceptance to accept the bad situation.
This chick is weird. “Mmmmm!”
