The first time I saw cargo bikes in widespread use by families was when I was in Portland in 2010. My sister was living in Northeast Portland at the time. There were no ebikes but I specifically remember seeing the Kona Ute. Incidentally, one of my favorite spots in Portland, The Lucky Labrador Brew Pub, is on Hawthorne right across from Splendid Cycles. I went back there in 2018 and somehow missed the great bike shop on the other side of the street. I must return and visit both!
We just bought an HSD S11 from Splendid this past weekend. Fantastic staff - extremely helpful, patient, and not at pushy with the sales pitch. They let us try out a number of bikes and we landed on the Tern. We love it. Hoping to get another one in the future.
Great video. I was there five years ago or so, got to test ride a Bullitt with Bionx assist. It was amazing. I didn't really have a use case to justify it. Also tried a e-wallerang with some automatic shifting set up, that was less impressive. Anyway you are so right about the character and leadership of this business.
one of the best shops on my green earth!

My first cargo bike was a Surly BFD and after 2 years of riding/training, I took it on a 1 lap around the US tour :)
3:01 Wow! The 4th urban bike with full suspension I see. The other is Riese & Muller, Simplon Chenoa Max and Giant Stormguard 🚴
