Wow! I mean before I saw this, I watched every video imaginable from every big name! The videos where on treating symptoms or curing existing procrastination for each time it happened, which for me was every couple of minutes for absolutely every action that required me to get off the recliner, no joke! Before watching this, all I kept thinking was "Nope, not gonna help, I am the queen P of Procrastination and they have not met me!" Now please understand that my Dad passed away in August of last year and so pretty much every motion, thought, or moment I existed was uncomfortable and unbearable (hence the recliner happened after his passing, so I was procrastinating life!) THEN I SAW THIS VIDEO! Though I had come across some self image motivational teachings, nothing connected the self image, self manifestation, emotion control, and procrastination into one, connecting them all! CLARITY! For the first time I did not feel exhausted after watching procrastination cures, given that I would have to practice their cure constantly. Instead, I have clarity that I can and will alter who I am and what I do all together. Therefore the first step;...."I am no longer a procrastinator and the only thing I am queen of is my mind, my attitude, who I am, and what I choose to do." I cannot stress enough how much this video helped me on every level. So simple, yet who you are and how you put it helped guide me to change the cause. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Sometimes we see a lot of content on productivity and procrastination dealing with the consequences instead of the actual cause, that we tend to focus on that and still feel miserable. I really liked your tips and I would add, as a way of dealing with discomfort, to think about the worst-case scenario (I usually write it down), the possibilities of that happening and what would I do in that case. It can give the sensation that you're in control and sometimes you can realize that it's almost impossible for a thing like that to happen or that, even if it happens won't affect you as much as you thought.

Love your addition! I have started to do this exercise with big goals I have when I am reluctant to work towards them through fear - it is such a useful one. Thank you so much!

I find that I consume content on how to stop procrastinating while I am procrastinating. 🤦 That said, you're absolutely right. It's that difference between pleasure and happiness-- the former is fleeting and addictive (procrastinate), the latter is long term and stable. I've heard it's the difference between dopamine and serotonin, but that's your department. 😅

Omg!! This video is amazing! And it makes so much sense! I start procrastinating as soon as I get anxious when doing homework or work in general. My habit is cleaning! During quarantine there were days I cleaned the house at least three times instead of doing academic work 😅😅😅 I’m in therapy, so those habits were detected but I love hearing this from a more scientific point of view! I love all the terms you used 🤩🤩🤩 brains 🧠 are so intriguingly amazing!

Thank you so much for this! I have a cleaning habit too - as soon as I feel uncomfortable with work, I tend to want to organise, plan or clean. Producta-procrastinating I call it as it is disguised as being productive but still an avoidance mechanism. Our brains are amazing and so interesting!

Also so great you are getting those habits under your control. You are the boss of your brain! :)

This is amazing. I haven't been able to find non-symptom related solutions until this video and I'd been feeling so down about myself. I am so grateful that I found your intro video on TikTok and ventured over here! I'm going to start working now and I WON'T procrastinate! I'm putting it out into the universe! Thank you so much for your research and for making this.

Love the description of the problem from the point of view of neuroscience. I did very similar one for procrastination while working from home during coronavirus, I guess many has this challenge in 2020... But I really like the idea to compare how different sciences see the idea of procrastination!
Also one of the ideas about ego depletion as a reason for procrastination (when we get angry with ourselves for not having things done but this is just because we actually cannot) looks very interesting. What do you think about it?

Thank you! From what I know about ego depletion, it would probably contribute towards procrastination (I am actually doing a video on this next week!) as will power is reduced so weighing up working (discomfort) versus procrastinating (escaping discomfort) would go in favour of the procrastination!

Great video Julia! Focussing on the cause rather than the symptoms is great, I'd never thought of that before. Much needed advice, I was and still am in the stage of deleting apps to control my social media usage but I'm definitely going to try these tips - thank you!
