Look at the BOM of a typical pair of speakers and you'll realize that you are paying an exorbidant amount for an MDF box, a box that, for the price, could have been made to far better acoustic standards.
That’s a real piece of art. This building method needs a lot of material because each layer requires a big surface to cut from. I would try to create the construction with thinner wood which can be cut with a CNC laser. I would divide the tunnel walls in smaller sections with puzzle connectors on their end’s. You must put them together with a half length offset between the layers to keep it solid. In this way you save material and time.
Fabulous - I love the shapes and the satin finish looks very good. I have a pair of "Carfrae Little Big Horn" Replicas that I built - all the MDF came in CNC sections in a huge crate that still needed glue and machining. I took my time and had to save up to get a professional spray finish. At 1400mm tall with 8 inch drivers they are monsters but I have a big enough room for them. Little big horns have a seperate subwoofer to get just a bit lower.
It was about around 20:08 that I resolves that my suspicions were correct and that you would, in fact, be stopping there. 🤔😱😒 Notwithstanding, sincere gratitude for the video, I learned a lot! 🙏
If you want a substantially larger and broader roundover and you also have a strong enough router, then try to find handrail bits. They're used to shape the top and sides of a stair handrail and the bit for shaping the top is generally a very broad, shallow roundover.
Mate... Absolutely stunning Project! Id love to see your Simulations etc. Do you have them anywhere in a Forum or so? Probably one of the most beautiful Speakers ive ever seen.
Gorgeous build. Only the terminals in that position is not great, always have the cables hanging down visible. I would have put those in the rear somewhere. But gorgeous speakers.
You could also put the speaker terminals at the back out of site and have you thought in the design of putting sound deadening material ??like Bituminous paint to damping down reflections of the back sound wave ??
it was not quite easy to move the terminals back, there were a number of problems, this is my hobby, I am a fan of building a special room with sound attenuation while it is still early.
Honestly wish it were gloss black, looks like it belongs next to a high end piano😂 brilliant and beautiful! Too bad the surrounds on the speaker seem improperly installed into the basket, they dont seem to fold the way they should...
Couple issues: You should flush mouunt the Driver to the baffle, and the inner edge of the baffle where the driver mounts should be rounded off to prevent some resonace.
I would commend you if you used scrap to create those shapes, but routing away the 80% of thick MDFs and standing in the middle of that dust nightmare for hours is just madness.
besides the sound quality ,what really got my attention is where did you learned to finish mdf I assume is MDX to finished mdf the way you did it is amazing the end grain looks flowless you need to make a tutorial on how to finish mdf double like it
Why go through the hassle of making it curved inside? All that achieves is permitting the not-good-sounding harmonics reach the mouth of the horn. Just use angled pieces and the sharp corners will cause reflections, which filter out the harmonics above ~100hz.

Cutoff frequency (lower frequency of configurable horn extension profile 33 Hz) Tuning frequency 40 Hz Horn length after bending design 1950 mm Speaker 6.5 inch Throat area 45 sq cm Speaker volume 0.6 l
I am wondering if the speaker volume is kind too small? I read an article says the volume is cone area divided by 25. So if your cone is 6.5 inch in diameter, then the volume is 8.5 liter. I dont know if the formula is wrong or what?

All of the people going nuts about the side mounted speaker terminals, you would change your mind if there was a nice pair of MIT Cables connected there.
It was clearly seen in the installation video that the baffle surface was not horizontal. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the edge of the Fostex unit was twisted even though it was brand new. Although it is a Japanese manufacturer, it is manufactured in China and the quality control is not accurate. I also bought a woofer, but I called the manufacturer to complain that it was poorly processed. I had it replaced, but the third time it was the same defective product.

Good to see people who can appreciate acoustics as both an art and a science. That is where true beauty is found.

nice very nice project i love back loaded horn enclosures

It extendes the low frequences since this type of speaker dont go very low.

If you precut most of your waste close to the lines with a jigsaw that would help the router a ton. Plus the router bit would run cooler.

Do your ears have damping?
@ speakers not the ears, not the piano or violin, they have their own rules to sound correct.
Сколько ж работы затрачено...а оно того стоило?
