This was an 80's hit but it was recorded to sound like it came straight out of a classic 60's girls group pop hit. It was genius and the melody was infectious. Sounded like a song you have herd before that was a smash hit!
This song Hearkens back to an innocent time filled with unlimited hope and promise called Camelot and the early 60s What could have been if the Kennedys and Martin Luther King were not brutally assassinated makes you wonder
Interesting career trajectory. Got into music as a singer and toured then pulled a hard left into comedy in the mid to late 80s. Another thing...the early 60s retro lookback of the mid 80s, including that Phil Collins song, "You cant hurry love" which was redone originally by the Supreames
Kim Wilde doing an amazing #1 version of You Keep Me Hangin' On. Somehow she only had 4 Top 45 hits in the US yet was biggest female star in the UK in the 80s and was more beautiful than Marilyn Monroe. The Jam also 'covered' the music from You Can't Hurry Love for their great Town Called Malice! Great time for retro 60s sounds!
One of the greatest songs ever. In fact, some time ago I rewrote this song for LGBT couples. I give my consent to anyone who wants to record it - without editing the text. I'm not a singer or I'd do it myself. Here's the lyrics: Hey Baby, got a hold on me Our love will last from now until eternity Hey baby don’t you leave me now It’s you and me alone but we’ll make it some how No they won’t listen to a word we say And their arms don’t open and they keep us at bay They don’t wanna know about us cuz they’ve never heard of love Hey Baby, gonna make it thru I couldn’t live this lifetime if it wasn’t for you But baby they just want us to go They keep us in a blindspot so they don’t have to know About us or listen to a word I say And their arms won’t open till I send you away No they don’t wanna know about us cuz they don’t know a thing about love Hey Baby, you just listen to me We’re not the ones in trouble now, just wait and see Cuz, Baby, you know what they’ve done? They’ve turned the world against us, but with God & His Son On our side, we’ll never be alone again Cuz I know that the Good Book doesn't call us a sin But they don’t wanna hear about us They don’t know the Golden Rule is Love Hey Baby, gonna make it last We’ll focus on the future and we’ll throw out the past Hey Baby, now you’re in my heart We’ve got it like a marriage and with all the good parts So I won’t listen to a thing they say Till their arms are wide open and they say we’re okay If they don’t wanna know about us, it’s cuz they’ve never heard of love No I won’t listen to their tired lines Cuz they’ve closed their hearts as they’ve closed their minds And they will never hear about us, cuz they don’t care a thing about love
@Tegan Bigone your version is beautiful. It gets me in tears without even having it heard singing. You did a great job. I would love to make a cover of it myself, of course with mentioning your lyrics in the copyrights when I post it.
Sounds like a Motown song, but made in the 80s without that distinctive, occasionally annoying electronic drum beat. Incredibly talented British actress who did everything from her own comedy show to playing Latrine in Robin Hood: Men In Tights.
great video, but such a shame more credit isn't given to the original singer, Kirsty MacColl (seen in the video as the dark haired background singer). She recorded the original in 1979, to unfortunately meager success. Then Tracey did a cover in 1983, with Kirsty as backup, but also, the high notes on "baby" is Kirsty's voice, as Tracey couldn't hit those notes. That cover then became a hit song. When you listen to the original recording, you can hear that the "baby" is the same as on this. Not wanting to take away from Tracey, i think she's great, i always loved her shows and the songs are fun. Just want Kirsty to get the credit she should have, since she was so underappreciated in life before it was so tragically cut short.
Kirsty wrote this for her first album, Desperate Character. She had nothing to do with the single but the record company did use her "baby" on the version by Tracey. The backing singers are old school friends of Tracey.
Tracy is sooo adorable ❤❤
Tracey is such a babe. And what a song!! One time, I played this song 10 times in a row just to get it locked in my head.
Only ten? :)
Normally, it wouldn't be my type of music. But she's so damn cute and she has a fantastic voice that I can't help but love it!
@@magneto7930 I love hard rock but this song is magical.
Positively smoking back them! Great voice too!
Take me back to the eighties please 😍

Originally by Kirsty MacColl in 1979. The high note 'baby' was lifted from the original in fact according to wiki!
We all fancied Tracey back in the 80s, very sexy girl, and bloody funny too.
All eyes on Tracy!! Look how cute she is!
The ultimate complete package!! LOVE her!
No nothing from the head to her belly. But from her waist to her ankles oh my god what goddess
She was made for the 60's,
man, man waren das Zeiten
I just love her you know she did a movie called dirty rotten shane. And that is hilarious
The high "Baby" is the best

And their arms don’t open and they keep us at bay
They don’t wanna know about us
cuz they’ve never heard of love
Hey Baby, gonna make it thru
I couldn’t live this lifetime if it wasn’t for you
But baby they just want us to go
They keep us in a blindspot so they don’t have to know
About us or listen to a word I say
And their arms won’t open till I send you away
No they don’t wanna know about us
cuz they don’t know a thing about love
Hey Baby, you just listen to me
We’re not the ones in trouble now, just wait and see
Cuz, Baby, you know what they’ve done?
They’ve turned the world against us, but with God & His Son
On our side, we’ll never be alone again

We’ll focus on the future and we’ll throw out the past
Hey Baby, now you’re in my heart
We’ve got it like a marriage and with all the good parts
So I won’t listen to a thing they say
Till their arms are wide open and they say we’re okay
If they don’t wanna know about us,
it’s cuz they’ve never heard of love
No I won’t listen to their tired lines
Cuz they’ve closed their hearts as they’ve closed their minds
And they will never hear about us,
cuz they don’t care a thing about love

@@arno-luyendijk4798 You may need to know the melody is copywritten also by the writer Kirsty MacColl. so be careful what you do with this version.
in many of her videos as well as in the show performances she is always accompanied by the same charming girls. Does anyone know their names?
Alison Thomas, the Blonde! She's from The Benny Hill Show
@@east.c.l, nope they are her old school friends.
Amanda Dickinson is one of them (on the right).

She didn't get a penny for her pop stare carrier the record company rubbed every penny
Good for practicing your backing vocals; pick a Kirstie MacColl harmony. (I love them both).
Playback 😊
You mock ur own audience. Sad
