Finally we got some snow in Utha’s high desert! The usual tan, red, and orange canyons and hoodoos transformed into an out of this world magical place. This is what dreams are made of. The Toadstool Hoodoos showed off their magic in the late afternoon, decked out with fresh powder making it the perfect place for the Husky Squad to enjoy this magical season. Although the hike was short, the girls went wild running many miles and loops around the hoodoos. Tidus wore his old brace to protect his previous injury, and he hopped around like a happy bunny. His huge smile was priceless!

As soon as the sun dropped, the skies turned pink, purple, and orange, leaving us standing in awe of its beauty. During sunset, we had an amazing photoshoot for “Trail Junkie” in their soft gorgeous cozy hoodies. Trail Junkie is a small company who’s passionate about protecting wild places, including this gorgeous region Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.

That landscape is so beautiful. I feel so bad for Tidus... he can't run with the girls :( Hopefully he'll be ok soon!
Aw I know, Tidus was a bit slower than the girls, but he usually sticks to us like velcro, and he was sooo happy to hike in the snow after a 5 week hiatus. The girls love to explore and run around. Tidus' knee is healing beautifully, so he's getting there. 🙏
I see, so he'd probably stay near you even if he could run around :) it's awesome he's getting there! Wish him all the best. My dog broke his leg in august and we had a 3,5 month hiatus, so i know how it feels. Especially with such high energy dogs it's really hard.

It was GORGEOUS! We only go to the high desert with the Squad in winter time when it's cold. They can't handle any other season. If you go in January, you'll have a higher chance to experience this magic :) 💖

Hi there love your channel. Your family is just beautiful and so inspiring. After watching your camping with dogs episode you inspired me to take my rescue paloma camping. She was a trauma dog from a kill shelter in Romania. I really had my work cut out for me but 5 years on and she has achieved so many milestones that I never thought possible and camping was became one of them after I saw the squad. I cant thank you enough. We had the most amazing weekend on a dog friendly campsite surrounded by beautiful woods. We also took her to the coast on the Jurassic coast in the south of England. One question I have for you is how do you protect the squad from parasites? I found a little deer tick on her when we got back after recently giving her her all in one chewable tablet that covers a whole range of parasites. Thanks in advance for your advice. Regarding ticks: In Oregon and Washington we don’t have a tick problem. When we travel we try our best to stay away from chemical based sprays or collars, so the best that we do is thoroughly check their coat after a hike, and keep checking for bumps that same night and following day. We'll keep everyone in the loop if we find a better way!

Hi Victoria and Jc. I love watching your videos. They inspire us to take our husky on adventures. He is an 8-year-old male husky and we adopted him in April this year. The first time we took him hiking he had the biggest grin and floppiest tongue I had ever seen on him. Now we take him 3-4 times a week. We're planning our first camping trip!
I read the interview on your blog and one of the things you said was that huskies are not off-leash dogs but in your videos, they are free to roam. I'd love to hear how you progressed to that point. Can you share training videos? How did you train the squad to stick by your side while hiking? How to get them to return in such new and distracting environments? Did you allow them to be off lead on your first trip or was it a gradual process? Have you had incidents where they've run off to chase a small animal in the wild?
We've trained him to walk off lead around the house and I'd like him to do the same while exploring on our adventures. I understand that it will take time for us to build our relationship and trust.

Been watching your videos the past few days, and going to be adopting a dog soon. Most likely a husky, I live in Portland, Oregon and hike A LOT, (did the Oregon section of the PCT this past summer) and circumnavigated Mt. Hood to end the trip ( awesome Mt. hood video btw). I am just concerned about the heat, especially in sections where there isn't a ton of shade. I need an active dog for my lifestyle that's able to do winter backpacking and summer, but would never want to put an animal through anything they can't handle. I seem to be getting mixed answers from people and figured maybe you could shed some light on the situation. Would I have to skip sections of hikes (like Mt. Washingtons lava fields) even with booties? I'm assuming so since even with booties the rocks are still very awkward to walk on. So I will do research on all parts of hikes to make sure my dogs paws won't be hurt. But will a husky or thick coat dog do fine with my situation or should I look into other breeds? Much love! And sorry for the wall of text :(
I'm so sorry for the delayed reply! Have you already adopted/rescued a pup? I have to say, it warms my heart to see how much you care for your pup already! Honestly, we do higher elevation in the summer, and we also do lots of coastal hikes. We start often before sunrise, so by the time it's 11 AM, we already done (during the peak of summers) We tend to lay low like huskies like to do during the hottest months of the year - Jc and I can't stand heat - and then once we start getting cooler weather again - it is ON! For paws, it's best to gradually condition instead of going all out.
