I think one of the surprises, for me, is seeing Carson Palmer on this list and other that you did. All I remember of him was his time in Cincinnati before he moved out West.
It says a lot that despite QB's like Luckman and Baugh pushing the bar tremendously at that position in terms of TD's, Benny Friedmann remained somewhat relevant all time for a couple decades until that big great age of passers hit in the late 50's-60s era. The passing game was developing, but it still was primarily a "bombs away" strategy and associated as a sideshow to a run game at best.
