I wanted to leave some additional information for people looking to jump into the world of fountain pens but are unsure because of the high price of entry. I hope this write-up helps you decide on fountain pens. 1- fountain pens may be expensive upfront when we talk about raw prices but are cheaper in the long run. A trimax, used for 20 years buying a new refill every 2 weeks will cost more than a pilot metropolitan which is bought once and a bottle of camlin ink costing 18₹ which u will buy maybe twice a year. 2- Fountain pen manufacturers charge you more upfront because their products are of a higher quality and require astronomical manufacturing tolerances to provide a consistent experience. However, there is another reason why fountain pens cost more, the manufacturer will not make more money off of you once they sell you the pen so they charge u more upfront. On the other hand reynolds trimax can be priced cheaper since you will continue to buy trimax refills from reynolds so they will still get business from you. 3- A fountain pen isn’t disposable and even a cheap pilot metropolitan can last 10-20 years after buying it once. If you buy a more expensive pen like the pilot’s custom 823 costing 30,000 Rs it can last you not only your whole lifetime but can also be passed down from your son to your grandson, i.e more than 100 years. 4- If you were to use a trimax, you can only buy trimax refills but a fountain pen can be filled with any ink so your options for inks and colors are unlimited, you ca even mix two inks to make your own color. 5- fountain pens that use an integrated filling system like a piston or vaccumatic system or take convertors are eco friendly since they dont generate plastic waste and glass ink bottles can be recycled. 6- fountain pens are the smoothest way to write even in the modern age, while they do have their downsides like dropping the pen will break the nib, shaking it too much will make ink fly out and they aren’t waterproof (unless you use a waterproof ink such as noodler’s bulletproof black) and they generally need to be treated with respect, the upside to fountain pen is that gel, ball or even rollerball pens can’t match the smoothness of a fountain pen. A good fountain pen requires no pressure from the hand to write and should typically make nice and smooth lines under the weight of its own body. 7- fountain pens improve penmanship. 8- fountain pens give your handwriting a lot of character and personality. Something written with a fountain pen looks very different to anything written by a ball gel or rollerball pen, this makes your handwriting stand out and your signatures look iconic with a fountain pen. Like it is dark when I write it , but after sometime the ink fades away and becomes lighter which causes visibility problems 😢 and my notes look bad .so my question is is it the same with expensive fountain pens

Try doing the review of Sheaffer 300 series. The legendary company has a history in India as these pens were used to sign the Surrender of General Niazi of Bangladesh Liberation war of 1971. That pen is a little heavy but is one of the smoothest pens I have worked with.
I just brought it, wow what a pen you will love it. It's a Must buy pen. Also need a good converter for this Pen. I have fine nib and its wow what i will say. It's grip is good and you will write fast. No leak very good pen I have no words. It's not a beginner Fountain Pen. I have so many costly pen but this one is a pro pen just need a good converter.
Pilot Metropolitan is best for classic look and best for signing and best for starter level fountain pens. While Lamy Safari is best for students and best for smooth and long writing sessions, both are best in their own ways.
After using for 3 years I’ve noticed that ink flow is not as good as Lamy pens I’ve been using Waterman Intense Black ink in all my fountain pens But Lamy still feels better than Metropolitan

A request - please do cover the smaller indian operations like Krishna inks alongwith the more widely known international brands of inks. Indian ink makers are few and the ones that actually make good products even rarer (looking at You, camilin, who sells that absolutely horrid ink in their plastic bottles ☠️ ) ... Do cover indian makers like Bril, Krishna, daytone and so on...
@@StudentYard sir body is only required for show off , any way I have only kakuno medium nib , and have never used metropolitan, but can say that kakuno is better option as it has more light body and is cost effective also!

Arpit ji, please do look at more options from indian brands like kanwrite, click, airmail etc., There are many excellent options under ₹1000/- Some of my recommendations be: Click Aristocrat Kanwrite PC Camlin Elegante All are available under ₹800/- and are excellent student pens
I have a question. Can I use pilot hi-techpoint ink which is meant for rollerball, in pilot metropolitan fountain pen? Someone said, that it can clog or corrode or damage the pen in the long run as the ink is meant to be used in rollerball only and that fountain pen inks are completely different. But before hearing this, I used the hitechpoint ink in the metropolitan pen and the result was FANTASTIC. The experience is out of the world. Please let me know your expert opinion regarding whether I can use the hi-techpoint ink in the metropolitan pen safely or not.
Its really difficult to comment , as pilot hitech point inks are generally ment for hitech pen which contains a feed made of fibers and uses capillary action for ink transfer so the inks works well in that case but the same is not the case with metropolitan , but as you said it works well so i would suggest keep using it and even if it clogs you can regularly clean your pen . 😃

I have both Pilot metropolitan and Kanwrite Heritage (Kanpur writers "Indian brand") both pens for the same price range and will admit that kanwrite writes more thicker with the same medium nib than Metropolitan... Kanwrite nibs are internationally famous for their quality nibs with wet writing experience..

Buy medium. Its best because flow of fine is not uniform. Ihave bought fine nibon amazon fine nib and exchange it 2 times. At end i bought medium and i love this. I had used many company pens but pilot metropolitan is ❤️

You should try Kanwrite Desire....Then you will know the real king of budget fountain pen. Much much better nib quality and writing experience. Parker nib is not that smooth as Kanwrite nib.
