Thank you for posting this! Great video!
Truly one of the all-time great runs
Still the only Illinois team to win the NCAA Championship in its current inception.
The Mississippi State story I saw in a SEC basketball documentary this year. I give them a ton of credit for trying, they broke their state's law and an injunction just so they could play. I have never heard of anything comparable.
An awesome team. Was hoping this country would have gotten past some of the nonsense. I was a freshman in college, and watched a delayed TV broadcast of the game in Illinois. I had heard Loyola had won the game. Watching the Bearcats build a big 2nd half lead made us doubt the score we had heard. The finish was "storybook." This game was a major influence on how colleges began to look at their basketball programs. Three years later the heralded Kentucky Wildcats were upset in the NCAA finals by the Texas Western Miners - a team fielding five starting black players.
At the end of the Loyola-Cincinnati game the trophy presentation is surreal. Cincinnati has a large squad of players. Loyola has less than 10, and a little kid mascot who must have been coach Ireland's son. What a moment for Loyola, Chicago, and Illinois.

Wish brothers would've kept a tradition of hbcu only
Amazing game!
one of the greatest ever
The '63 National Championship was the first to feature two predominately black starting lineups.
