    Thank you a lot. If you can, i'd like to request many, many more "Sound Selection" guides, for all kinds of instruments and samples.
    Imo that's the one, single most important skill in all of production - trying to work with shit sounds will always set you up for failure.
    When you have well selected sounds though, you often don't really need to do anything to get the Song to work.

    Amazing video! Thank you so much. This was such a good summary; I think I've already learned a lot about selecting kicks by watching videos on this channel. I remember taking extensive notes a few years ago on kicks, and now this was a great recap. These videos are pure gold; there's a huge difference when selecting the right kick. A proud student here! 😆 Thanks for teaching us so well, Zen World.

    For FL users, the stock sounds under Packs -> Drums (Mode Audio) are super super super clean. Must use no need to spend on packs

    So would you apply the Body + Transient rule to other elements e.g. hat, clap, snare etc.?

    • @ZenWorld
      @ZenWorld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't some do apply but don't overthink it. For drums maybe try Main Layer, Texture (FOLEY LAYER), WIDTH.

    Seriously, I don’t think there’s been a track I’ve made in the last year where I have gotten almost finished and decided I hated the bass and replaced it, and then had to replace the kick, and then had redo all my eq and compressor settings. 😂 My workflow is so bad.

    Mate I've been taught at my last University SAE (School of Audio Engineering) and the one I'm at now I wont name as Privacy, there's 3 parts to a Kick.
    1 - The Click,
    2 - The Body,
    3 - The Tail.
    I also make my own kicks for all my productions and I use Sonic Academy's - Kick 2, which I swear by the same as a lot of big names use it you defo want to have a look into it if you haven't already as even down to the smallest details of how many MS the length of it is, so then knowing the BPM of the song gives you how many MS you want your Kick to be say you use 3 sections of the bar for Bass. So you just make them whatever length you want, tone it to whatever pitch you want it in, you can make it sound how you want, even lets you add sounds at 'the Click' to make it how you want. Then render it for your DAW, it's spot on mate for its price defo check it out and maybe do a sponsor with them on making the Kicks and you'd probably get it for free. But yes also they talk about the 3 parts of a Kick 😂. Sorry mate I'm not trying to be a dick as I know what you mean by 2 parts but we are always learning new things in music off others so wasn't too sure if you knew Academia does count it as the 3 parts in exams etc. But I did also want to point out 'Sonic Academy's - Kick 2' as it is so powerful.

      @@ZenWorld Always bro!! I'm 43 today and started my university journeys at 39 even though 5 Record Deals to date then but because I was self taught from TH-cam and books I wanted to get in as much learning as I could and loved learning all the new stuff I come to a 2nd uni to push my music even further and probably teach it at uni in a few years but more Producing and DJing to do for now 😂. Defo check out that Kick 2 mate as its awesome plus you could sell presets for it like Nicky Romeo and that does for it, do like a Trance set, then a Techno set etc. Cheers for taking that the right way 👍

    I’ve noticed a lot of kick samples that I find on splice sound fuller on splice then when I put them in my track, anyone know why this would happen or how to fix it?

  • @TonyCooMusic-m5c
    @TonyCooMusic-m5c ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can automate the phase of your bass to keep the phase inline with your kick, if you can be assed ofc 😂

    That “kick don’t matter” bs is that, bs , absolutely phase matters , and the more you’re in phase during a mixing session , the better results you’ll achieve , you also can’t have a kick that’s not in the very least in the same scale , the only thing you could argue doesn’t matter , is the transient of the kick , you can have any kind of tone/flavor there

    Hey Zen, Great video. Just wanted to ask if anyone else is having the same issue as me.. I swear i've been missing samples from the KSHMR vol 4 pack. I see that in yours there's 'house kicks', 'punchy kicks' etc.. with mine there's only 32 kicks in one folder. so weird. anyone else have this issue?
