While it is kinda big, you can wear this as a fanny pack. I do sometimes.

Thanks for the review ; i'm looking for such a sling / waistpack. Do you think that an iPad Mini would fit in the zipped inside pocket?

Hi, I doubt it would fit. A Kindle with a cover fits inside but the iPad Mini is slightly higher and wider, while the width is not a problem the height might be. So it will not fit in the zipper pocket but I think it will fit in the main compartment.
