I didn't get any Legend of Korra vibes, unless it's just bc the character is female and brown? If anything it gave more Moana mixed with Indiana Jones vibes
@Plastic Life fair enough, i disagree but that's fine. I would say it's more of a ripoff if the animation was also 2D hand-drawn but since its a completely different CG animation style it just doesn't feel similar to me. who knows tho, neither of us have seen the movie. you could watch the movie and think the only thing that reminds you of Korra is her clothes and the movie is engrossing enough to where you forget about those comparisons. I could watch the movie and think that its definitely a Korra ripoff. Can't know until we see more.
@@ChowdhuryRayan There are other similarities to avatar the last airbender. There are four divided tribes and her pet grows to be roughly the size of Appa and she uses pet as mode of transportation. Also, the guy she fights looks a lot like Zuko with his blue mask.
@@rorylennon4043 I enjoyed the first season of The Mandalorian, but honestly if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s the first live action Star Wars tv show with (near) film level production quality I don’t think it would have been nearly as memorable or special.
Probably, most of these Avatar, Korra stuff was inspired by SouthEast Asian culture, lol. It's just the first one, so let's wait and see. I would focus more on the actual story when it's showing.
@The Catspaw Dont be a dick about it I am just stating my opinion. I never judge a entire film just from one trailer. I can say if it looks good or not but that's it.
both Korra and Raya are inspired by South East Asian culture. Kora is inspired by Asia as a whole, both East Asia and Southeast Asia, while the character of Raya is specifically influenced by Southeast Asian culture
It’s crazy to think that this was supposed to come out in November, which is only a few weeks away, and now I’m thinking that March isn’t going to happen.
I loved this trailer! I loved the narration from Kelly Marie Tran! I can’t wait to hear from Awkwafinas character and am excited to see who else is in the movie!
I thought the trailer looks great. Beyond that, it doesn't give us much in terms of the story, so I would caution against passing any judgement on Rays and the Last Dragon, especially since it is just a teaser and not a full blown trailer.
But WHAT did they show you are D23?! What exactly was so different? Could you give a description for those of us not fortunate enough to witness that presentation?!
Yeah, I felt like I wasn't seeing anything new either. I'm an animator and a writer, and I'm looking forward to the visuals, but the story looks pretty Disney typical.
This will show my age ... but Blizzard's Mists of Pandaria (2012) cinematic trailer immediately came to mind. It almost looks put together as a recipe mimicking an action trailer.
I thought it looked solid. I definitely agree about the Moana and Avatar/Korra vibes but it still looks fun. I am very curious about the D23 footage John saw though.
While I respect your opinion, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this trailer. I think it looks really cool. The animation is incredible and it offers some amazing action-packed moments. That, and the plot sounds like it has potential for a really fascinating movie. I'm excited to see this in 2021. That is, if things are better by then at that point in regards to this whole pandemic issue and if theaters are still around at that time.
Visuals of the movie look solid as hell, but I was also underwhelmed - and I didn't see the D23 footage. This trailer didn't really make me interested in the story, the music was really bizarre and main character looks like a copy and paste of Moana. Still really excited to see the movie but the trailer was kinda meh imo.
As a Filipino I love the representation of South East Asian cultures. And the main character uses arnis sticks. That is so awesome!

Her hairstyle and outfit are very similar to Korra

How does John find this underwhelming but not the Mandalorian Season 2 Special Look?
Because it’s not Star Wars
Dang it, that special look trailer was so underwhelming
All the Mandalorian stuff has looked a bit underwhelming. Just more of the same

@ Thank you and yes I thought it looked really good.
@The Catspaw It's this idiot that should do his own show so he will see " Unique" and "New"
I loved the trailer yea it has avatar and Korra vibes but that's probably because it's based somewhat in the same culture
both Korra and Raya are inspired by South East Asian culture. Kora is inspired by Asia as a whole, both East Asia and Southeast Asia, while the character of Raya is specifically influenced by Southeast Asian culture
I hope Raya will rule the box office on its release date!

Let's see what the future holds first before jumping to conclusions.
It's a teaser though. You're not supposed to get much info just an appetizer
❤I Loves Teaser Trailer Raya and the Last Dragon Movie Look Beautiful & Cute
Disney based this on southeast asian countries
They were right even it looks great most of the elements we've already seen before on other animated films/series.
I was at D23 Expo last year and I was impressed with both trailers.
Does the animation looked better on D23 or its just the same with the trailer?
I loved this trailer! I loved the narration from Kelly Marie Tran! I can’t wait to hear from Awkwafinas character and am excited to see who else is in the movie!
Hi there talk about things! You're doing well I hope!
@@ajawalker2290 yes! Are you?
@@iliketotalkaboutthings1200 Yeah I am!
I got heavy Indiana Jones vibes from this teaser.
John, can you share us what kindof stuff did you saw at D23? Are there any significant difference? The story, the animation? What?
Finally an Indonesian Disney Princess! ❤️
Raya represents Southeast Asian not just Indonesia

tbh, disney animation's teaser trailers can be kind of misleading. They probably marketed it this way to bring in more people.

Its just a teaser but 2min long soooo...Not a full on trailer that always excites and shows bigger picture of the story
Raya Skywalka

Didn’t know anything about it. Got Indiana Jones vibes and thought it looked really interesting
Before i was thinking og mulan, prince mononoke now im thinking frozen, mowana kind of more toy sales than serious story still gonna watch it tho
Raya wears a hat like raiden from MK
I'm with you John, but i never saw the original presentation. I reckon it's just an average trailer, since i have nothing to compare it with.
I wasn't as excited as I was expecting. Especially with so much action in this trailer. So I totally agree with you John.

Guys at least its origin.. Not a remake
I wanna see what John saw at D23 because I felt underwhelmed too. I should be more interested than I am at the moment.
I like the music, sounded cool
Was this one also filmed in Xinjiang?
I got kind of vibes of The Dragon Prince
The soundtrack for the trailer was obnoxious and distracting.
Made it feel like a nikolodeon throw away
Unless Bruce LeRoy is making an appearance then I’m not interested🤷♂️
Loved the trailer, loved it, loved it, loved it
Man I loved Avatar TLA. Didn't like Korra tho. It just.... wasn't good.
Disney presents: Avatar the Last Jedi
This movie aint for adults, its for kids
I was hoping for more magic
I give it a 7
A routine family movie is hyped you more than marvel, ok John you are always on the other side of culture.
It was underwhelming
For myself personally I thought it looked ok. I was thinking my kids would love this and will drag me opening weekend.
John, new flash, Korra Avatar DOES NOT CREATE Asian Culture.
it looks too much like a korra ripoff for me her design is almost exactly the same the 4 tribes the dragon it feels derivative
Trailer makes movie like a 5 out of 10
For me an 8/10
lol HA! even her cloak is a airbender cloak lol
Movie is another book by book Formula of Disney. Looks average
