@@beautifulminutiae I think if I would have had a Gengi or a Pickwick that I read all the way through but wasn’t enjoying I may have had a worse time with some of the other books. Thank God W&T was end of the year! 😅
This year's classic that has really stuck with me is One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. The perseverance and the small things he was thankful for really stood out to me. There were several on your list that I have on my TBR.
I read 37 classics in 2024 Favs were Agnes Grey, Frenchman’s Creek, Pair of Blue Eyes, Secret Garden, Therese Raquin, Silas Marner, Scarlet Letter, A Christmas Carol
So glad you enjoyed Hawthorne's short stories! Animal Farm is one I need to re-read. I only read it in high school and I know I would get a lot more out of it now. My favorite classics of the year were East of Eden and Wuthering Heights.
East of Eden is such a masterpiece! I am long overdue for a reread. I'm going to be rereading Wuthering Heights later this year and I'm really excited about that! I didn't like it as a teenager, but I think I would enjoy it a lot more now (much like you and Animal Farm!).
Listened to A Christmas Carol for the first time in November after watching the Alistair Simms movie every year while growing up. I loved it! I tried Crime and Punishment but couldn’t make it to the end (will try again at some point). I didn’t finish Secret Garden 😮 and reread Sense and Sensibility ❤
I bet A Christmas Carol was amazing on audio! I'm so glad you loved it. I'm getting ready to reread Sense and Sensibility for my British literature class next month!
What an amazing year of reading. I’m inspired! I’m currently on chapter 3 of David copperfield a first time read so really excited. Thanks so much for sharing ❤
Yay, for lots of classics! Now I don't feel like a freak for also not loving Cranford (I dnfed it actually). If you haven't read it already, I highly recommend Mary Barton. Somehow, I think you will love it.
I haven’t read Mary Barton! So far I’ve only read Cranford and North and South and I didn’t love either of them. I’m hoping Wives and Daughters is the one I finally love this year, but I do own Mary Barton as well.
@beautifulminutiae if it's helpful, Wives and Daughters is thoughtful and domestic, and Mary Barton is a dramatic page-turner. I don't remember the Christian themes being as strong in W&D, but maybe I just missed it.
I loved Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy the first time i read it (20 years ago), but I thought that books 2 and 3 were much weaker. I DNF'd book 3 🤷♀️ Sadly, my re-read of book one a year ago wasn't great: middle of the road at best.
Oh, that’s interesting that you didn’t enjoy it as much the second time around. I still definitely liked it, but it’s not one I think about that much months later.
Wow, I’m so surprised LOTR topped the list. 🤪😏🤣 That would’ve been my top one, too, if I’d have gotten to it. I loved Tenant, but I think Mas’r Davy wins.
David Copperfield ranked a lot higher than Tenant for me also! Depending on the day, it might get swapped with Kristin Lavransdatter, but I still like Daniel Deronda, Crime and Punishment and LOTR more.
I tried reaind LOTR when the movies came out. At that time, the only fantasy I had read was The Hobbit and Tamora Pierce. I had to laugh when you said you loved the amount of time thar they spent in the Shire as I DNF'd LOTR at Tom Bombadil because I was so annoyed by the amount of time we were in the shire and the Tom freaking Bombadil. I do plan on reading LOTR now that I know quest stories usually are slower paced.
Okay, this is a VERY unpopular LOTR opinion, but I don’t like Tom Bombadil either 😂 So many diehard fans were very upset that he wasn’t in the movie and I was not one of them.
I’m so happy to watch this video!! I really want to read more classics this year and this is a helpful list to pull from! 🩷 I am so excited to read Dostoevsky!
I think I need to do a classics ranking! 😂 we read many of the same, but I would rank them somewhat differently.😅
I would love to see your ranking of the classics you read 🤩
Haha I’m sure you’d rank them differently! I already know which ones are higher up 😜

@@novelideea 🤣
I’m still limping through Wind and Truth. It’s not bad, but I’m having a really hard time getting into it because there’s so much going on 😂
Yes! It's hard to pick a favorite book especially since many times it depends on how the book evoked emotions out of you
Yes, exactly!
We love a classics ranking!! I appreciate that you included rereads too.
I love doing this video every year! I had a lot more rereads than normal, so I’m glad I have a place to share them 😊

Ivan Denisovitch is SO. GOOD. I still think about it all the time and it’s been about 1.5 years since I read it.
The Tale of Genji 😂😂 you did struggle with that one
Oh, I most certainly did. I have never unhauled a book so quickly after finishing 😂
I listened to 'A Christmas Carol' whilst wrapping presents this year.
That sounds delightfully cozy and festive 😊
My favorite classic this year was either Dracula or Mansfield Park. Love hearing about everyone's favorite reads!
Vastly different vibes from those books! I love them both!

Wow, you read a ton of classics! You have some of my all time favorites in your favorites list!

My favorite classic of 2024 was Summer by Edith Wharton. I don't know why but I just loved it so much. 🥰
Oh, that's interesting! I haven't read that one yet, but I plan to pick up Ethan Frome very soon.

I can’t wait to hear what you think of David Copperfield!
Yay! "Agnes Grey" tops "The Tenant"! Why is it so underrated?🤔🧡
Totally agree! I feel like nobody talks about Agnes Grey 😂
