I bought my first 125cc BSA Bantam in the 60s. It cost me the princely sum of five pounds, it came with a helmet, and gauntlets. I couldn't wait to get it insured. I had some great times with my Bantam, I had many bikes after that , but it's the Bantam I remember most.

That fishtail exhaust sounds so familiar.

Nice. Similar reg to my 1962 Lambretta, which ends 'YUM'

Great old bike. I was thinking 'so simple, there's not much to go wrong' and then you mentioned the fuel leak!!

Yup! 😂🙈 I’ve a feeling the floats stuck, it’s a common issue I have with this bantam

The D14/4 is a lovely Bantam! I’ve got one here but it’s got the later B175 engine fitted I think, needs the oil seals done!

Great little bike it was based on the DKW. BSA received it as war reparations.

Hello Lewi. I bought a D1 last week. It goes and it is nearly all there. I made a video of mine. Could you please take a peek and tell me where I could get a correct tool box like you have. Mine just has a void, It did come with a kind of bracket in the box of bits with it. Has no battery anyway. Thank you. Jimmy,

How much of it is actually 1948 vintage?

    • @LewiBuchProductions

Good question, and the answer to that is everything bar the seat and tyres 🙂

@@LewiBuchProductions The engine looks later, as does the headlamp. Early engines had a different generator it was a geni-mag, but itvwad possible to fit the later type stator plate to an earlier engine, so maybe thats whats happened. Early bikes had a bowden cable operated light switch, so no switch on the headlamp. Again these were often swapped over with the later type which, quite frankly were better.

@@alanmoore9896 engine’s definitely an early one as you can tell by the shape of the barrel, it also does have a Geni mag set up, only powers the electrics when the bikes running. Headlight could actually be a later one, I think I got it as getting the correct original one wasn’t so easy to do

the problem with bantams is the tool box youll need to repair it at the roadside would be bigger than the bike. there were terrible if you could get over a 100 miles on one without it braking down then you were indeed a very lucky man. always carry spark plugs youll need them and oil. thats why your grandad probably said dont get one and was trying to save you the grief and embarrassment of standing next to it on the road sides
