    Hey Blackie of two years ago. Please never think that we would get bored watching you
    load all six cylinders. Historically speaking it is interesting to see how long it took someone to do a reload.
    Perhaps you could do a video on reloading your BP revolver under different conditions. Simulate combat conditions with
    people yelling in the background, have others firing nearby to create the smoke called the FOG of war.

    Have assembled barrel, loading lever, and plunger for an 1851 Navy Uberti. It interchanges perfectly with my 1861 Navy.

      it truly is how fluid and for lack of a better term modern they look..and to do it in mass for a military fighting a war...during ww1 and ww2 they had to cut costs and finishing to speed production to the front lines..but colt did it with steam and water powered tools

    The feel of a Colt pistol, from the '49 Pocket Model to the 1911, is just right. Weight, balance, grip shape - Colt had it down.

    I have the 51 Colt Navy from Pietta in 36 caliber. Anyone who says they don't have much penetration hasn't tried one. The roundball will go through a 2x6 and a 2x4 together. All the way thru the x6 and almost out the other side on the x4 behind it. They will also punch a hole clean through and out the back side of an empty propane canister, the small green ones. Trust me, this passes the old one-inch pine board test easy. Remington is heavier and bigger. Colts are cleaner and better balanced. I will take a Colt over a Rem any day of the week.

      I got into black powder by firing a Ruger Old Army on a hog hunt in Kistachie National Forrest. Within 30 days I owned one. Now I have two, one stainless. I never get tired of firing them. I actually consider them utility pistols. Good for a lot of different things when they are properly loaded. I have developed shot loads for snake and waterproof loads for hunting or long term (more than a few days) loading.
      One of the most important utilities of these pstols is the amount of fun you can have with them.

    I have seen a few European Colt copies with different roll marks on the cylinder. I think they were made under Colt licensing. I have an 1860 Army from Belgium produced in the early 1960's called the new Army 1960 Centennial model. It has the Colt patent date and the European Colt standing horse. It is new in the box with all the paper work and has never been fired.

      if both guns are same maker like 2 piettas or 2 unbertis..is is possible..i have build a uberti yrs ago with a 5 inch sheriff /51 barrel /16 barrel / and a 12 inch earp..in a set..but that was in the 80's take this with a grain of salt they may bake them a little dif today

  • @DocLaw172

    Interesting that you put bore butter down the barrel. I did that before I went testing Eras Gone .31 Colt bullets. I shot 25 times before stopping and had almost zero powder residue in the barrel. I was using the EG mold bullets, a Wonder Wad and 11 grains of 3F. That leaves me with the ball even with the cylinder edge. On top of the bullet I put a mix of beeswax and bore butter that I melted into a butter tub.
    What was as interesting to me as the almost clean barrel was that I found the lube on the target, mostly behind the paper and on the wood backing it. I might have something here!

    Hello sir, have been watching your videos recently because I had to repair my pietta 1851 navy revolver. The cylinder wouldn't spin in the half cock position. purchased a repair kit from Cabela's and it fixed that issue. But there is a little play when I have the hammer down, and I try to turn the cylinder. can you tell me if this is normal, or if there is a fix for this. Thanks

    Another nice video Blackie!! This video has raised once again a long standing question I have had...what is your take on the reason for them making hex shaped barrels vs. round ones back in the day? I know some manufacturers were still making the hex/square barrels long after round ones were being done. I've heard all kinds of reasons why one was produced over the other, (one was easier to make over the other, looks/style, one is easier to finish, etc.). What is your input? Thanks once again!!

    • @BLACKIETHOMAS
      @BLACKIETHOMAS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the hex came from the common gun barrels of the day hawkens ect kentucky rifles usually had hex..a round barrel was often a musket or smooth bore or as we would call it a shotgun..in the beginning colt used the hex for ease of building it..later with the 1860 he brought in the fluid barrels..again as a way to set his guns apart in the market place..

    • @greywuuf
      @greywuuf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not to sound like a smart alec. But are you guys actually finding hex barrels? ....i have only ever seen octagonal. A hex would be something of an oddity.

    Blackie, with my Pietta 1851 .36, when shooting round ball, I notice that the rammer doesn’t seat the ball all the way down to the powder and I shove it down a bit more with a dowel. I load the recommended 17 grains of Pyrodex. Any way of increasing the depth of the rammer? Thx

    Nice shootin Brother 🔫🔘. I bet with the rain and now that sun. The humidity is so high Like right here on the Chattahoochee . I wouldn't of been surprised to see a bass Using the shadow of your targets as structure. And you shooting while wearing scuba gear. I had a friend visit from Limerick Ireland a while back and Lord He said he felt like he was drowning with all the water in our air here in the south. The Alabama state bird. The Skeeter. Loved that boy Ate him alive. But There's a picture of My Family on the wall in the pub he frequents and Sweet Home Alabama on the juke Box. I told him. When ya get a shower here you damn near need another one because ya break a sweat drying off lol. Glad y'all made it through the weather. I know I saw one funnel cloud here. But it never got lower than 5 or 6 hundred feet. Still I slept with my boots on that night. Had my Nephews do the same. But out bag ready to go. Just in case one touched down and we had to skin out. What do you think about the idea of loading conical bullets backwards to act like a wad cutter?
    Where did you get the tubes you use to carry pre measured charges?

      Dixie Gun Works

    • @BLACKIETHOMAS
      @BLACKIETHOMAS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      correct dixie tubes..they can be done that way..but... the conical load because of a smaller base to fin in chamber mouth if you flip it around your ramming a over size much like a round ball and its just sqeezing it in..i don't think accuracy will be so hot that way..a keito conical is a wad cutter in the keith design style and should give you good perfomance

    • @greywuuf
      @greywuuf 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It probably wont hurt to try, however I would expect a large increase of cylinder gad flash as a pointed bullet. Does bot make a very good surface for gasses to push againstb

    • @wadekirby8575
      @wadekirby8575 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BLACKIETHOMAS I've been unable to find a keito conical, are you sure that is spelled right? (If so where are they?)
      The flat bullet base contacting the rammer and pointed nose should make loading straight and true easy.
      Would you mind trying some backwards loaded conicals?
      I think forward vs backward conicals would make an interesting comparison.
