    In a case of a server with multiple hard drives can the hard drive where hypervisor type 1 esxi is installed, be used to create a datastore? Or in that case you should use other unused hard drives?
    Also can you use more than one hdd in order to create a bigger datastore?
    If i have multiple hard drives on the server, the raid shoulv be configured before installing the esxi or after?

      Ok, you would create the raid volume before installing esxi, then you can place some vm's on the datastore. Is this a single server setup i.e. do you intend to use a cluster or multiple esxi hosts ?

      @@sysadmintutorials it’s a unique physical server, one esxi host, 5-6 virtual machines on it. So can i install the esxi hypervisor and then the virtual machines (in general windows server 2016 machines) on the same datastore (raid volume) where is installed the esxi or do i need a separate raid volume (datastore) for the esxi and a separate one for the virtual machines (dedicated datastore)?

    • @sysadmintutorials
      @sysadmintutorials  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do either. Install esxi and use 1 big datastore for both esxi and vm's or you can create 2 volumes within your raid config so the first is used for esxi and 2nd is used for vm's. Is this a production server or a lab ?

    • @sysadmintutorials
      @sysadmintutorials  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Thomas, definately gains to be had by upgrading to 7.0 However first you'll need to check if your CPU's are supported. Head on over to VMware compatibility matrix and see if your CPU's are listed: www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=cpu

    • @SteinerSE
      @SteinerSE 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sysadmintutorials I'm guessing with my R710 being EOL I bet no luck there. I just did a reinstall with the DELL 6.7 image however which went fine (with the warning that the CPUs would soon be non supported).
      I'm looking into trading up to a R720 now that the prices of those are dropping to OK levels, that should buy me a year or two more.

    • @SteinerSE

    • @sysadmintutorials
      @sysadmintutorials  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could always try to upgrade it to 7.0, it will either not allow you or display the same cpu warning message. I haven't tried with your CPU's. But unfortunately if it doesn't work you'll need to get some new cpu's. Check to see what the max CPU your Dell servers can support, might be cheaper to just buy 2 cpu's instead of new servers

    Great videos! Wondered if someone can help me, even though I followed the DC server setup, created records for the ESXi too, the ping with -a resolves the IP to the name only when I do it from the DC. When I ping from the host laptop, it only pings the ESXi by the IP address. And the DC server pings as it should from the host laptop, by IP and name.

      @sysadmintutorials  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Aleksandra, you shouldn't have to use host records. If you set your workstation TCP/IP settings - Primary DNS to the ip of your windows server, then you should be able to ping the esxi dns name you setup within Windows DNS. i.e. esxihost1.domain.local
