    I'm always so envious of you guys who get to dig yards and yards of dirt... in the Sierras the ground is loaded with granite. Every time I dig I encounter thousands of pieces of granite, some the size of golf balls... some the size of that excavator!

      Peter Riis yes.... metric ton or tonne is 1000 kg. Or about 2200 lbs. the standard or imperial ton is exactly 2000 lbs.

    Why such a large machine for a basement? Wouldn't the rental costs and transport fees really hurt you on a short job?

    • @GameVilleofficialpage
      @GameVilleofficialpage 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends, is the short answer. Rental costs are not an issue as much as it may cost more but it will take less time, and since rental rates are based on time it would be better since it’s not only able to scoop more but also moves faster and can reach longer, allowing it not to have to move as much as a smaller machine and also cutting cycle time way down. It’s also able to cut down labor costs, as the difference in pay for operating either machine is marginal, so the more time it takes the more it costs. As for your point about the transport, as long as it wouldn’t need a larger truck or lowboy than an alternate machine the lowboy cost is the same. However, it does depend on how the rental rates are calculated and also on whether or not you would have a harder time moving a machine this big on a site like that.

      We had this house and another one to do on the next lot over. The builder needed them done asap an was willing to pay for the added cost of the rental of the machine to get them done.

    When doing any excavating job, how much time do you spend thinking and planning to figure out the best way to dig quickly without "digging yourself into a corner"? And how long did it take you before you stopped making the rookie mistakes that cost you extra time?

    • @Jake25755
      @Jake25755 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve dug many basements, some in wide open grass fields, some in residential developments with house on both sides, it’s all about experience, once you do enough of them, you realize what you have to do every time you dig one

    • @DirtNinja

      We take a good amount of time planning jobs. It saves us time in the long run. Moving dirt the least amount of times is the key to making money. It took us about a year to really figure things out but we still make mistakes!

    • @DirtNinja

      The tracks are lower on the side dumping the material. This speeds up the time it takes to spin to dump. You will always be spinning down hill with a full bucket. It also increases the load you can carry when taking a scoop.
