- Electric Light Orchestra Live in 1978
Concerto for a rainy day first part, Taken from The Eagle Rock, Live at Wembley DVD special edition, released in 2006 with superior audio. Often wrongly called Standing in the Rain.
I have been trying for a year to get this DVD back from my 23 year old son! He won't give it up! I taught him right!
I have it, if you want it!
The Real ELO right here folks!
The current ELO is rubbish compared to this lineup
I saw this show live as a teenager in the summer of '78. To this day it's by far the best concert I've ever experienced and I've seen many a band. People went absolutely insane when that spaceship opened up. I still get chills remembering it.
Bassist Kelly Groucutt has sadly passed away on the 19th of February 2009, I am sure all ELO fans around the world join me in condolencies to his family and friends.
RIP Kelly, you will never be forgotten
ELONut it’s funny how most of the string section is dead .Kinda like how they left after discovery .
@@nightisright1873 yea…bc Jeff wanted a bigger stake without having to pay these talented backing band members
@@nightisright1873 Mik and Mel are still alive. It's only Hugh that died from the string section (RIP Hugh).
I became an ELO fan back in '77, after the release of Out of the Blue. I couldn't believe the quality of the sound. Most albums only had a few good releases, with a lot of filler. Every song on this double album was terrific - and some of them were instant classics. I ended up buying all of their albums and following them until their dissolution. It's nice to see that they still command a strong following, from generations then unborn.
NO one can compare....no one else has ever sounded like ELO and doubt they ever will.
Jeff and Kelly have voices of angels
Brilliant! Kelly had an amazing voice. Miss him 😢
Jeff and Kelly had the singing voices of angels!
@@sarahloughlin3724too bad Jeff didn’t think so later on…
What a start to a concert you just don't get any better than that these days epic song epic band greatly missed this line up
The 70s ROCKed 🎯
ELO is the best there will ever be..... Kelly will always have my heart, and admiration because in my opinion, he was the best bassist ever....
......fabulous vocalist too. You can always hear him in that "ELO sound"
And a few years later, Jeff’s ego took over and he phased out every member of this incredible band
ELO the best Rock Group in the world during the 70's...
Best live performance of the song
That big sound was my favourite back in the late seventies. It is still impressive and unique.
my late father used to play this on vinyl for me in the late '70s and I have loved ELO ever since. I'm now playing it for my kids who also love it!
My 15 year old daughter loves ELO...especially I'm Alive.
......this concert was released on vinyl?!!
@@brandonb1681 Xanadu !!! 🤟
Your royal highnesses, ladies and gentlemen, children. And to those of you who are not highnesses or ladies or gentlemen. All who are here. I bid you welcome. And peace and happiness to all of you. For the disabled children. And for this great, great honor that's been presented to me. To present to you, the most outstanding rock group in the world today. My friends... The Electric Light Orchestra.
Thank you Tony Curtis for the wonderful opening to a wonderful concert! =-D
I LOVE ELO and Jeff Lynne with all my heart. They played live to a backing track in this one. Cant really fault them though - there would have been 150 people on stage if they hadnt. Still awesome.
I love how epic the whole thing is and how the violin players would run around .Another great thing was when the string section would do stuff like the orange blossom special.
IS A EXCELENT. TEMA, VERY BEATIFUL…….THANKS TO ELO………..❤
RIP - Richard Tandy
Fantastic keyboard player and pianist
Massive loss to music
Well said and totally agree :(
What an intro, a masterpiece, they are just the business, I'd stand I the rain just to listen to this band ❤️❤️🎸🌧️
Getting this level of tech and staging achieved in those days was a truly epic achievement. Loved ELO then and still do today!
The best song of Out of the Blue record
Great Album 🎯
never get fed up with listening absolutely outstanding god bless Kelly your missed
Yes.....Kelly you were amazing. I often wonder how he and Jeff got along back in the day.....
@@paulmccarthy8345 music very Beatles ish !!! 💕
awesome, yesterday and also today. I saw Jeff Lynne´s ELO 6 weeks ago and it was amazing!
To reproduce these songs in concert was a feat in itself. Amazing!
Awesome Tune Awesome Album
Awesome Band -ELO
If they ever invent a time machine guess where I'm going(!)
That's right. just don't forget to take me!!
I’m going to Dec 8, 1980 to NYC to make sure that loon (MDC) wasn’t able to fire off one shot….
I was there!! great memories great concert.
Hey! Good for you! I can´t even imagine. Never see ELO in my Life :(. I´m from Costa Rica. Greetings
We sat at the back, center a brilliant view and I remember my seat vibrating. Fantastic!
No one talking about the Lazers shooting all over the Arena !!! First time I saw that in concert 😁
I saw this show in 1978 and they were definitely not miming. They always were a fantastic live band
Me to 😊
You are illiterate if you don’t know when a backing tape were played and when Kelly was asked to lip sync during Rockaria…
Some of their recordings were so intricate and orchestrated it was impossible to reproduce it live.
lifeson46 even worse bringing in several several band members in the modern era to be on par with this Classic Lineup...not possible
I think with today’s technology it’s easier to recreate the intricate and orchestrated sounds
NightIsRight using Pro Tools is what’s wrong with today’s Lazy Musicians
OH_I _Will it’s going to be very hard to find a replacement Jeff Lynne he’s really the last of his kind
Saw them in 2019 Jeff blew me away ,every bit as much, as when I saw him in the 80s. Phenomenal shows.🎼🎶🎶🎶💙😻✌
Wow! I never saw or heard this song before, but found it today and I think it is awesome!!!
+Mary Perry Buy OUT OF THE BLUE cd with the bonus tracks. You won't be disappointed.
I just turned 20 and have liked these guys since I was 15.
Jeff lynne is the man and this DVD is amazing, I recommend every fan pick it up or at least watch it all the way through.
I remember about 30 years ago this concert was the only one you could see live. And here in Finland only by the television because ELO never visited here. A great mystery though ANWR was gold record here. But now we have TH-cam service where you can see almost every ELO performance you like !
I saw this show...it was my first rock concert. I was in the 8th grade. It was such a magical night and remember it like it was yesterday. I can't believe I'm watching this. Thank you so much for posting this...I'm full of goose bumps and very emotional.
My first was KISS Destroyer tour 1977 Goosebumps !!! 💯
You just cant get better than this. the 3 of them, Tandy Groucutt and Lynne are just geniuses.
Gotta ❤️ kaminski
and Bev Bevan!
I love that Richard Tandy is enjoying the music just as much as me as hes playing on keyboard
LOVE ELO have done since I first heard them 1973 Brilliant then and still BRILLIANT NOW. I will never stop listening. This is one very special BRITISH BAND and we are so proud of them.
+Susan Keane Took you long enough. USA loved them first.
+Susan Keane Agreed!
+Sean Hampton Rubbish...some of us loved ELO when they had just Jeff, Roy Wood and Bev in the group in 1970, before the USA had ever even heard of them... and still love them now 46 years later, can you say that?
Can't we just say we ALL love them and kiss and make up? That's what Jeff would want! 😘👏👍👍
@@Dina6279 ur right ! Didn't Hit America until Face the Music's Evil Woman and Strange Magic FACT !!! 💯 In 1975
This is my Elo👍👍🤩
This is as thrilling as my first watch of 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'.
WTF 🤔 🤟
The backing track of stringed instruments set the tempo for their live shows.
That right there was the “Classic ELO Lineup”.....Jeff Lynne, Kelly Groucutt, Richard Tandy, Bev Bevan, Mik Kaminsky, Melvin Gale and Hugh McDowell.
Epic !!! 💯
ELO doesn’t exist any more….except in Jeff’s own delirious mind
Imagine you are 11 years old at your very first concert with an older brother and older sister, and this here is the very first introduction into concerts and what they are all about...[out of the] "Blue" me away!! 👌👍✌️
Goosebumps !!! 🍑
such a fantastic, mesmerizing, powerful arrangement
Excellent. I love this song; one of my favourites from Out of the Blue.
Astonishingly good
I saw this concert tour in Omaha Nebraska, and was forever floored by the whole sound superiority as well as the complete total theatrics to this concert. I'm glad after all theseyears that the footage shows my memory was not lacking in any way to the power of this concert
You've got to love ELO!!!
Actually listed as "Standing In The Rain" on my copy of Out Of The Blue".
Wow elo a mega group at this time when rock ruled
That Jeff Lynne fellow seems pretty good! ;) He has always reminded me of McCartney, always experimenting and making amazing music that will be enjoyed 100's of years later. Bev rules too!
I went to one of the concerts they did at the Myer Music bowl in Melbourne Australia in Feb 78. absolutely awesome night, definatley no lip syncing!!!!!
🤟🤟🤟
Absolutely love the old ELO !!!! Jeff Lynne and Kelly great vocals . Thanks for uploading from 1978 concert !!! ❤❤🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎹🎹🎹🎻🎻🎻
Kathy Hawley the background singers In the band don’t have any chemistry with Jeff’s voice
NightIsRight you must be talking about the current lineup...they are amateurs in comparison to the Classic ELO Lineup
@@Oh_I_Will no talking about the Old E.L.O!! From the 70s 🎶🎶🎶🎶
@@Oh_I_Will Bingo 🎯
ELO at their best , Out Of The Blue was the best work they put out in my opinion .
I’m partial to El Dorado...but indeed, it’s hard to argue with a Double Album...
For me it''s a tie between Eldorado and a A new world record but one had the feeling that he kind of gave everything he had in Out of the blue.
Face the music is the best elo album
For me, Time is the top as for sound, conception, structure.
@@kseniaksenchuk2531 get out of here time is no good it’s lacks strings and that big sound
this is kick arse solid now as ever.
RIP Kelly and Hugh
I saw ELO's Out of the Blue-tour 1978 ❤ in Stockholm
thank you for posting! Now, THAT is a live performance! The 70s fashion rocks!
I was there. Incredible.
Always play this tune in my car when I'm down. 4 minutes later, the world is RIGHT again.....:)
Saw this live back in the day and it is still as good today as it was then amazing
Where, when?
I love this song, and I love Electric Light Orchestra! In the early 90's, when you were a kid, ELO was all you grew up with, and I loved it! =-D
Super vid m8! I wish more bands would take Jeff Lynne's approach to musical contribution! =-D
Early 90s ?
appart from the very last second I think this is the best I have ever heard Jeff sing this.
ELOnut you deserve a massive gold star for putting these up.
first heard ELo in 1976 when I joined the RAF. A mate of mine introduced me to them never looked back. Sadly never seen them live wish I had made it to WEMBLEY last year :((( Jeff you ROOL!!! One of the LAST top UK bands still going!
Underrated band
The magnificent seven. The CLASIC ELO
You know, I've wondered that for years! Glad I'm not the only one...
The Boys. Fantastic
I'm standing in the rain
I'm waiting all alone
I'm so tired
I wanna go home.
I'm standing in the rain
Getting soaking wet
I'm doing my best
But what do I get?
I'm standing in the rain
Can't seem to get along
People rushing by
Wish they could hear my song.
I'm standing in the rain
It's teeming down on me
Cats & dogs
I wanna be free.
I'm standing in the rain
Doing my thing
I'm trying my best
What does it bring?
I'm standing in the rain
Getting soaking wet
I'm doing my best
But what does it get?
The good intentions and the pain
Lay drowned now in the pouring rain
I tried to be so good this time
But here I am under the sky.
The good intentions and the pain
Lay drowned now in the pouring rain.
Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra please Tour in 2022!!!
Kultowy koncert Live in Wembley 1978 jest to koncert charytatywny z udziałem rodziny królewskiej a prowadził ten koncert Tony Curtis mam wersję DVD i VHS. tego koncertu polecam obejrzeć ten koncert ponieważ zawiera utwory z płyty pod tytułem Out of the Blue.
I actually went to one of the wembly concerts in '78 this video came from! Wow! When there on a motorcycle with a friend ....
Congratulations
Cool
I just watched this DVD for the hundredth something time, and just noticed the intro. When they show all of the bigwigs and royalty arriving, who is there to greet them but Sharon (Arden) Osborne!! I hardly recognized her, but her voice is very distinctive. So Funny!!!
This is what we heard on the night! I was there.
Yes 🥰
Who opened for them??
great memories from 1979, thanks
I saw them in Birmingham Alabama on July 8, 1978.
Man what an Awesome Post, Thank You so much! Love Jeff gesturing for more cowbell at 1:45. Seriously, I'm going over to Amazon to grab this dvd right now. Cheers and Thanks for Standing in the Rain in all it's wonderful live MAJESTY. Fantastic.
ELO till I die.
Jeff sounds like he did on On The Third Day, love it
Never got to see this tour. Could kick myself for that!, Saw the tour supporting their second album, in OC Md.( The Pier) We were about the only people there. Seriously, there were less than 50 people there. We sat on the floor about 15 feet from the band and were mesmerized to the point that we did not move 'til the show was over. Maybe the best night of my life!
Spectacular ! ELO made OOTB tour about half of the year in 1978 in the world.
But they didn´t visit Finland. What a shame ! A New World Record got sales here about golden record. It was MUCH here those days of a foreign artist.
If there is a bad ELO song I haven't come across it yet!! LOL! My fav group next to The Beatles!
THE BEATLES ❤️
Fantastic. Its so full and obviously live
Polecam obejrzeć koncert Live in Wembley 1978 ,tam są wszystkie utwory z płyty pod tytułem Out of the Blue,,
First time seeing this. I had only seen the mimed one. I always wondered why they would mime over this but not over the others on this VHS/CD. Thanks for posting!
May they someday get the credit they deserve. a direct influence of peers. Queen. Sweet. Pilot 10cc. now Muse. beyond brilliant
Dam 💗 PILOT !!! Whoa Whoa Whoa it's Magic 😍 And SWEET one of most underrated bands EVER !!! FOX on the RUN is EPIC !!! 🎯
RIP Michael "Kelly" Groucutt (bass).
Descansa en paz Richard Tandy
Just so so so great! Love kelly's harmonies. You can keep Dark side of the moon, on the dark side!
I saw this tour at msg in nyc when you walked in to see the spaceship it was like holy crap then the lights and smoke and it was ready to take off and then it lifted was really a image that i just have stuck in my mind
We all saw the same video as you
Great live version!
Went to this concert fab
IF anyone doubts that ELO could not sing LIVE then they should watch them online singing Roll Over Beethoven live from London in 1976 They were so hot they nearly exploded. And I am getting fed up with people who think tat ELO lip synced They were classically trained musicans. Thanks ELOnut....
My favourite band (seen them live 24 times since 1974) but they were playing live along to the tracks on this tour. Sad but true.
@@spartaprague417 why is it sad ?
LA CANCIÓN MÁS ÉPICA DE ELO
My first "rock concert": The Omni Arena, Atlanta, Ga., Jul. 7, 1978!
Who opened?
@@Oh_I_Will I don't recall... in fact I don't recall seeing an opener. Dad took us so he may have opted out of seeing the opener.
Of course there was….you weren’t there obviously
their music is absolute genius
I love you, ELOnut!!!
What a show it must have been.
Goose Bumps my friend 💋
They opened with this when I saw them in Vancouver
Off the charts epic
Incredible in Columbus, Ohio.
The spaceship stage would have been impressive to fans in 1978. The two films Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind had premiered the year before. Although the stage could fail to open, making it a Spinal Tap moment.
Love it 💚❤️💚
