The unbridled joy of metalseadramon. This is quickly becoming my favorite card game. It scratches the itch that duel masters left me with all those years ago.
Supposedly the Digimon Card Game revitalized the local card shops with how much the preorders and packs sold out in Japan. People were going out of their way to go in, buy a bunch of Digimon, then go home.
Got my Blue decks today. Got a Super Rare virus-type MetalGreymon in one of the boosters. It was styled to looked like the version from the original TCG! It’s awesome!
Volcanicdramon is a very common splash card for decks that can't normally deal with the Rookie Rush strategy, since even though it costs 11 to play, deleting the opponent's entire strategy while getting a solid beat stick often makes up for giving your opponent some extra plays.
My only knowledge of Digimon cards was looking at the Japanese only cards from like 10 years or more one of the Digimon wikis. I still find this cool and nostalgic. Enjoying this, and enjoyed the 7 Deadly Sins series. Can't wait for more.
Loving your coverage of Digimon. Congrats on the MetalSeadramon! PS: The commons in this game can be really good! Volcanicdramon for example has seen play in Red Decks and even MegaZoo Decks! (Multi-Color Strategy focused around hard-casting Level 6s for strong effects and high-DP security).
Everybody ready to wait for the second release window to buy singles? Honestly though this seems like a very good game for drafting and sealed. You can just bring sleeves and dice and if you don't end up getting cut you can play most cards in your deck anyway.
I'm kind of interested to play that game TBH, gonna have to look for an alternative way to play the game though (Table Top Simulator has all the stuff it seems). In any case the cards look pretty good, especially the rarity of that Metalseadramon (super/secret rare rarity?), sleek and stylish :D
God, it's that time of year when entirely too much game stuff comes out for me to keep up with. This game looks neat, I have nostalgia for the IP, and, if that Angewomon is any indication, I don't think they censored the art (I think they airbrushed her midriff in the dub). At the same time, Weiss Schwarz just released an Adventure Time set, which would be aces to own as a stand-alone. On the board game side, CMON has announced games for Scooby Doo and He-Man that my wallet is CLEARLY woefully unprepared for, never mind Jasco's second attempt at a Mega Man board game, and the possibility of the Mortal Kombat miniatures game coming sooner than later. All this, in ADDITION to the money vacuum that is MTG. Being a geek is expensive...
I've been looking for this one but somehow online all starter decks and boxes are AT LEAST being sold at 3x their original prize by resellers as the supply ended up being short on the demand. I heard somewhere that they plan on releasing a second wave of product because this much success was honestly unexpected. It's very interesting all in all. If the game looked THIS good back in the early 2000s I'd probably picked it up over Yugioh, Pokemon, or MTG on a heartbeat jesus.... xD
Man I'm... well not *excited* but I've been waiting for this due the nostalgia for the old one! I'm thinking of maybe collecting some of these cards, at least if they make cards of my fave Digimons >:D Oh, now that the Transformers game got axed some time ago, is there hope on seeing you making a video of that game?
So are the boxes in the West bigger so you can't pocket it because stuff like this tends to be sold in convenience stores/toy stores where the employees don't give a shit? (INB4 someone tells me these items get sold in convenience stores in Japan as well and not just in hobby stores)
Stores did not get Play Mats for Digimon, paper or otherwise. They provided these really lame Demo Decks that were 11" by 17" perforated thin card stock that would not shuffle, and the rules summary (probably same as the the memory gauges in the Starter), and no play areas. Sold out in one day.
I believe the premium bandai promos are in Japanese regardless of region so im assuming language wont matter as long as you apply the effects correctly.
Man, the wait for next year for the actual release is gunna be torture. The scalper prices are pretty bad right now, so no hope getting stuff early as a casual collector.
There's already a mobile gacha for this TCG, I think they should've released that first globally and then go with the actual cards. With this situation people aren't really meeting up to play and it's not worth it to start a new card game if you have to wait to play it...
Would you say such words as suspend or checks qualify as the 7th sin or since they are basic rule text like mana in mtg it is exempt and is merely a few select words that you need to remember?
Part of it is that Wizards actually trademarked a lot of these terms. They infamously trademarked "Trading Card Game", hence why we have so many "Collectible Card Games". I think the idea here was to use terms related to computer programming to add a level of flavor. "Suspend" is literally the only word I had trouble with, and a quick peek at Turn Order clarified what it meant.
@@Kohdok thanks for the reply I didn't know about the trademark on common card game slang. I do appreciate that they decided to go with some flavor in the absence of the ability to use more common terms
@@Siecyl it's most likely because the cardstock is different I'm pretty sure they're using the US cardstock manufacturer. If that's the case then it'd be pretty easy to tell apart by feel.
I'm surprised they say out of the gate they know collecting cards are worth money unlike wotc that shit out sets with like 3 cards worth a shit ton of money and otherwise you are fucked if you don't pull them
There are an awful lot of Digimon though, and they're already making multiple different cards of the same ones. It'll take quite some time before they run out of Digimon to put on a card.
Heavens yellow is a horrible title- they could have called it golden Hope, or Angelic Hope, or something like that to take advantage of the marketing around the crest and character. These are also just cooler titles. Heavens yellow is...bad. Missed opportunity IMO.
This game feels dead to me before it even comes out. Launching a card game during a global pandemic seems extremely dumb. If Star Wars and transformers died pre-Pandemic this game has no shot.
@@Kohdok thanks for the response, love your channel! Good on’em for selling out prerelease but unless America gets it shit together we will still be going through this in February.

Hopefully this lives longer than 2 years
I really don't like sinking my teeth into a new game only for it to die out quickly (like Yokai watch did)
The Digimon Card Game looks more promising than Yo Kai watch TCG imo
Supposedly the Digimon Card Game revitalized the local card shops with how much the preorders and packs sold out in Japan. People were going out of their way to go in, buy a bunch of Digimon, then go home.
@Eric V Yeah Duel Masters was my gateway to card games 😂 but I got into it too late
Duel Masters any day🤪🤪🤪🤪 I hope we at least get Duel Masters Plays in US
@@trickyplays240 I agree, I've been playing it in Japanese on an android simulator, but I'd much preffer an official global release.

Nice, that's the Alt-art version of an already Secret Rare card, it's like, the rarest thing in the set.
Kohdok you got as excited to see MetalSeadramon as me when I pulled Liliana, Dreadhorde General from the Prerelaese Pack for War of the Spark.
I ended up with a playset of Puppetmon lol

I may have replayed the moment where the sound of a brick was being ng dragged a few times.
I was _very_ entertained.

Good way to start is to mess around with the tutorial app
Checkout Digjmon tcg Discord channel, there is online automatic simulators in there. If you just want to learn, there is also an app for it.
Once it releases in my country, I'll give a try to this game.

Hey Kohdok, can you review Huntik?
Also, can you review online card games like Kingdoms CCG or YuGiOh Duel Links?
He's mentioned Huntik a couple times in videos, but it would be neat to see a full video devoted to analyzing it.
