    We haven't been there for over 20 years. Watching this video brought back lovely memories. Yes, the price "depends" on where you are from; if you look like a tourist and a few other things. Always haggle, the prices quoted drops more than 50%. Oh my, the donkeys are still at the port steps. Memories. The architecture of the old buildings and the old doors was wonderful, we took so many photos of those. Lamu has a lovely history, from the 1400s. Land of the Swahili people. There were Arab, Persian, Portuguese inhabitants as it was a major trading post from East Africa to India and Middle East and across Africa, with all of its spices and treasures. Many of the old families generations are still in Lamu. Looks like they have changed the front area. If you are claustrophobic, be careful in the small alley ways. Lamu is beautiful , hope you enjoy as we did. We hope to travel maybe next year.

    Based on this video, Lamu looked to be a very interesting place. A place I’ve never heard of until today. It appeared to be a very clean place, and your accomodations looked to offer many amenities, less the broken room fan. I hope you will give us a tour of this place in the future. Perhaps it’s history, local life here, and what might attract international visitors. I’d like to say that your time and efforts to bring forth videos to your subscribers is truly appreciated. 😁👏❤️👍

    Hi Michele, Lemu seems like a good place to enjoy. People are very friendly and well behaved, the whole environment of this neighborhood is unique and refreshing for anyone who wants to relax, finally your hotel was very nice and in an old classy way which is very remarkable and yes, I love this kind of room setting. Thanks for sharing this video and looking forward to follow up on this episode.🙏🙏💙💙

      Yes, Lamu is beautiful. We were there over 20 years ago; and this video brought back memories. True the people are very nice and humble; just that everyone wants to "help" when you are looking for peace and quite but no issues while we were there.

    I wouldn't pick up the lobster much less try to rub its belly. 🙂I was surprised how nice the Airbnb was inside. Amazing for what looked liked a run down section of town. Everybody seemed very friendly but obviously many wanted to make a dollar or two from the visitor. Although they were not like the touts in India that literally will not leave you alone and follow you everywhere. That one wooden chair almost looks like a throne. Definitely worth $30 a night for this quality place to stay.

  • @mwedekeli

    Bro. I appreciate the entertaining hit piece on Iammarwa, however, paying $2 for a 5km boat ride is not scamming. We need to drop this narrative of Kenyans being scammers, these are nice welcoming people trying to pay for a fuel. Its not fair to charge an 11 year old local the same as tourists. Maybe your English is limited but the term Scammers should be used to expose those in Cambodia stealing our savings for bitcoin and are far more manipulative.

    • @MichelePonte
      @MichelePonte  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Bro, if you search the dictionary, the meaning of the word scam is "a dishonest plan for making money or getting an advantage", so it is not about the amount. Therefore it is a scam.
      And the amount for tourists is 6-12x what the locals pay. Which is the best way to not attract tourists, in a place where they make money thanks to tourism. Tourists don't feel welcome when this little scams are played.

    • @mwedekeli
      @mwedekeli 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MichelePonte I just feel less than $5 is a menial amount for a 4km trip to shore. This is a service, not a charity, its powered engine boat, not a cheap matatu. Lets not exaggerate their situation and call this scamming.
      I see you were served well and these locals should standardize a cost structure. By now, after your trip, im sure you recognize people are suffering from a lack of monetary exchange. Realize how many millionaires visit Lamu and build houses with airstrips. However, there is little going on economically for its people. I will continue to watch your content, i used to visit Janat house and was in love with Lamu town.

    • @MichelePonte
      @MichelePonte  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mwedekeli it is less than 1 km to cross the canal, and millionaires take private boats, not the normal ferry.
      Being charged 6 times the normal price is a scam regardless the amount, and initially he wanted to charge me 12 times.
      The same thing happened on the way back, another driver didn't want me to bring me to the airport unless I paid 450 (he started from 600 again). And to not miss the flight, I did. There were other⁰ people on the boat, all paying 50, so in that case it was both a scam and a threat (to lose my flight).
      Most tourists won't feel good about Lamu because of these little games played by the locals. A little gain now, hurts massively the future gains.
      Thanks for watching my videos
