I am a 76 yr old American. During the war I never really understood what was really happening, and why. Media was limited. I wanted to go there and find out. I visited Vistnam in February. The people in both the North and South were very kind and welcoming to Americans. The stories of the older survivors of the war helped me to begin to understand the despair. Your story is, I think, a kind of allegory of the Vietnamese people. How wonderful that you united with your mother! It is mysterious and marvelous.
just stumbled upon your channel and watching your videos to piece together your story . My late wife's father put her on a plane our of Saigon as the city was falling. She said she was scared and thought she would never see her father again. Sadly, that's what happened. The worst part like you pointed out was there was no communication with the US and Viet Nam for so long. Any messages had to go thru the French govt and would take months. She spoke no English and was in a refugee facility where every night they saw the movie the "sting". She eventually learned perfect English and became a leader helping following Vietnamese families coming to the US. I think that a lot of Americans really don't appreciate the hardships and difficulties other people endure. Will watch more of your videos to piece together your story
Appreciate you sharing. It was a very difficult time and hard to get good information on what happened to family members. I think you will like my book also to get more information www.amazon.com/dp/B0CFHFJP25
I visited Vietnam and Cambodia in January 2019. I had a wonderful 15 days between the two countries. The people of both countries were so welcoming. As a Black woman I did have some concerns about how I would be received. I had read that Black Amerasian children did suffer discrimination. I did ask what had happen to the Black Amerasian children. The tour guide and professors I talked to said that most had been resettled in the US. I can say that my experience in Vietnam and Cambodia was so wonderful. I am interested in Vietnam because I worked for the US Army during the last eight years of the Vietnam War. A dear cousin and two of my friends lost their lives in the Vietnam War. In the late 70s and 80s, a co-worker of mine sponsored several Vietnamese families to come to resettle in the Northeast USA. He met them during his tour as a DOD civilian working in Vietnam. I had the pleasure of meeting some of his friends because we would go to the restaurants and bakeries they opened. Like your family, generations in these families have become successful in the US. I am so happy you found your birth family.
Appreciate you watching and thank you for sharing your story. Happy to hear you had positive experiences a few years ago visiting the area. Regarding racism, it's something I write about considerably in my book if you're interested. It's something that is learned and passed through generations, but can also be unlearned and overcome.
He’s not talking about % of matching, but about sharing 50% of his DNA with his mum. No way he can has 99.9% of his DNA the same as Mum’s, unless he’s a clone of his mum…
