What do all the ugly losses tell you about the Habs?

  • The Canadiens allowed nine goals on home ice to the Penguins Thursday night, six goals in the third period alone, in a lopsided loss which has added to the trend of the Habs succumbing to defeat in ugly ways this season. TSN Hockey analyst Kevin Weekes examines what these losses are telling us about the team.

Goes beyond being young. This is not about the record, it's about how they lose. They are not being coached well and mentally, they lack focus.

So a struggling Pittsburgh team not just beats them, but pounds and embarrassed them. And you think it's part of the rebuild? They couldn't even put up a fight against a struggling team? Good way to build confidence

If Sam Montembeault keeps letting in more than 9 goals, they may have to replace him for ether Marc Andre Fleury, Cam Talbot or Jake Allen for Team Canada at the Four Nations

No team chemistry yet just putting any player with any player! If you want to coach a player do it face to face not by benching them and embarrassing them that just breeds resentment and hate not team spirit

The Habs are lacking self-belief and are letting their pride ride the bench! Each and every one of them should be thinking "I am the very best at what I do!" and should be determined on every shift to prove it. If you want to be a champion then you'd better start thinking like one and go out and play like one. I'm 74 years old, but I can still skate and let me tell you.....if you want to step on the same ice surface with me, you had better allow your pride to accompany you off the bench , otherwise, get the hell off my ice surface!!!!! That's a message that guys like Gallagher, Suzuki, Caufield and Jake Evans should be sharing with this team! It's ok to lose a game when you play well because you're not going to win all of them, however, you might be beating me by a goal or two in the third period, but I'm going to make sure that you don't win easily. Don't EVER lose while your pride is collecting splinters on the bench!

even in a rebuild (unless its the first year of a rebuild) losing by 3+ goals 10 times before december ends is just pathetic and it falls on coaching before anyone. Any one or all of...MSL behind the bench may not be the guy due to inexperience? Instead of trading Savard, adding an experienced solid shut down defenceman...3 vets, 3 young guys. A Solid back up goalie...i had hoped that Primeau was ready to take over for Jake Allen, but guess not. Laine should help, but another one or two vets who can legitimately contribute offensively(and defensively!)...but Montreal is still in the middle of their rebuild... Maybe just take the lumps...grind through...get experience and keep working in top prospects...still only 4 games below .500...but win/win situation---if they progress and do well, it's great. If they lose, and do poorly, MTL has 2 first rd draft picks(including Calgary's)! They do have have some good talent though...

Coaching in sus. D is sus. Goaltending is ight. No secondary scoring support. Also a lot of deadweight. Anderson, Dvorak, Savard are just not NHL caliber players at this point. Bring Evans back. • @cskvision

They lack a #1 goaltender. Montembeault is a back-up goalie at best on any other NHL team. When Carey Price retired, this team plummeted into the ground. Also this fixation of always having a coach with French-Canadian roots stifles the potential of this team tremendously. Hire the best coach available regardless of if he's from Quebec, or Ecuador.

He's pretty consistent in his performance, but generally the goals he lets in tend to be pretty hard for any goalie to block unless you're at S++ tier. I think the commitment to defense as an entire team will allow him to shine more. Defensemen will also take longer to develop too so there's a lot of work ahead.
