- A cold but sunny February evening finds an orange trio of Bessemer and Lake Erie units in charge of a southbound ore train. BLE SD38-2 878 and SD38AC 867 sandwiched the 905 as they tackled the grade from Conneaut, OH to Albion, PA. I managed to snag the consist four times before calling off the chase at Albion. The backlit evening light helped extenuate the exhaust and sand as the classic consist dug in for the climb.

It reminds me of the old Milwaukee road trains back in the 80's great video 👍
Appreciate it!!
Excellent footage and a well done video! You need more subscribers!
Much appreciated!!!
It absolutely pains me that I could have shot these last gasps of solid orange on the ore trains, but didn’t. I wasn’t familiar enough with their operations and only heard them from school at Slippery Rock. M-2s had taken over by the time I finally caught my first “Bessemer” train.
We all have those examples of things we wish we had gotten into a little sooner before they slipped away. I’m very thankful for the countless days spent on the BLE starting in the early 2000s, but no doubt missed out on other stuff because of that. That’s the railfan dilemma!
Oh wow. Was not expecting to see the old hoppers in the consist.
Yup those were the small pack of old hoppers that were kept on the property for transport of stone and slag! It was a nice treat to have those up front!
I know there's still a string or two at the Docks.@@northeastohiorailfan8313
Awesome video - good job !
Thank you!!!
Can use some footage from this video for a documentary about BLE 878 I'm working on? (With credit of course)
No thank you. All this video is copyrighted and is not intended for use anywhere but this channel. Thank you for asking though, good luck on your documentary!!
@@northeastohiorailfan8313 although the documentary is finished I appreciate the response thanks 👍
Hi! Great railfanning video. Beautiful wintry scenery. This was running during COVID? Another thing that is gone and I hear maybe going altogether from the landscape of Eastern Ohio and Western PA.
Yes the ore kept moving all through 2020/21. The BLE is barely a shadow of what it once was, that’s for sure!
