I love the old Grand Marquis. We had a 2000, and later on a 2007. Both were great cars. Now you saved another car that's going to make a great ride for someone.

I've had quite a few of these cars over the years. They usually always get in the mid 20's for mpg. One of the best running and driving cars ever made.

I use to keep at least one panther car in my company fleet. My last was a town car, let it go for a Cadillac, then traded over to an Acura RL. Good car? Yes, Would I rather have another Panther? Definitely!

Im tellin ya Randy, keep this car for a long long time because at some point it will be a collectors car. After cash for clunkers got rid of so many great cars, these are going to become very desirable. Yes many will say that is bs but many said same of late 70s cars and now they are going for fairly good money considering being mostly considered writeoffs that lacked power and perfomance. Nostalgia knows no Era, it only knows a person´s heart. And small town America that you are commenting on? Love it man. I live abroad and home is where you make it, but no matter where i live i am always at home in small town America. It is how it is meant to be. Suburbia is hell. Only small town or big city has a soul. Youré a good man Randy a man of my own heart brother. Always look forward to your videos. God bless you and your family.

Excellent video. When opening a business I was told today you measure your success by the distance from a Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Wendy's, Sonic, Mc Donalds, Whataburger, Name brand Grocery Store and a Pharmacy and the nearest Emergency Room and How Big is your Mail Box Gotta be a Big Red Corvette box and is the Fire Department Manned or Volunteer? I almost wrecked my Pickup {The Beast} when I was told that. I said when the Electric goes out none of that matters. Only thing that matters is How big and long will your generator run. Roof for $1100.00 is Bargain basement price, write em a check how fast and when can it get fixed. The faster you get the HQ House finished the more views the more money... Make a bunch of video's... Ya know where it is the Guy with the Big Red Corvette Mail Box, that will be the saying. Best wishes to you and your Family !!!!!!!!!!!

When my wife and I went on our honeymoon, I bought a 2003 Crown Victoria p71 just for our trip from Chicago to California and back, following Route 66. We drove at 75 to 80 mph the entire trip and averaged right around 24 to 25 mpg. It had the 3.27 gear ratio in the rear I believe. The best part is I paid like $800 for it at the South Bend Indiana police auction, and we sold it a few months later for $2,300.

My family took my 97 Grand Marquis from Chicago to San Diego stopping sightseeing in Colorado, and Las Vegas, driving around California for 3 weeks and average gas mileage for the round trip was 25 mpg. In the summer when everything west of the Rockies was well over 100 degrees in a black car with the ac on most of the time.

I had an ex-police Grand Marquis of roughly that vintage for a while, and 26 miles/gallon on the Interstate was usual. Maybe the reading I was getting was optimistic and maybe yours is even more optimistic, but I was impressed based on how long a tank of fuel would last.

Randy, you seem to have a lot more fun driving the Panthers (especially the cop car) than you do any of your new cars including the Corvette. The Panthers are great for price, reliability, mpg, low cost of ownership, lots of aftermarket parts, easy to work on. I'd rather have a Panther than a vette anyday.

I think pretty much every iteration of the Panther with the 4.6 since 92 has succeeded in achieving excellent fuel economy for a V8 RWD sedan. I had a 93 Crown Vic that I got an average or 28 MPG on an 800+ mile trip from Alabama to Texas. Basically the same things for subsequent 97 Crown Vic, 2000 Grand Marquis, 2002 Grand Marquis, and currently a 2000 Grand Marquis. Hard to beat them!

I HAD THE PREVIOUS BODY STYLE MINE WAS A 1988 MERCURY GRAND MAQUIS LS BERIGE WITH BEIGE INT 4 DOOR. MINE HAD THE WINDSOR 5.0 302 CID V-8 AND GOT 31 MPG HIGHWAY 22 CITY AND 26 MIXED. I BROUGHT IT FOR 350.00 IN 2008 WITH 32K MILES AND DROVE IT FOUR YEARS SOLD IT AT 58K MILES FOR 600.00. MY FRIEND IS STILL DRIVING IT. I HAD A 1987 MERCURY GRAND MAQUIS 2 DOOR WITH THE 302 CID V-8 IT GOT 31.2 MPG HIGHWAY AND 23 CITY AS WELL. THESE ARE ALSO CHEAP AS HELL TO FIX. PARTS ARE PLENTIFUL IT HAD 82K MILES DROVE IT UNTIL 162K MILES BODY RUSTED AWAY STIL RUNING WHEN I GOT RID OF IT. I WENT TO TRADE THE 1988 IN WHEN THEY WERE DOING THE CARS (CARS ALLOWANCE REBATE PROGRAM) AKA CASH FOR CLUNKERS AND THE 1988 AND 1987 DIDNT QUALIFY FOR CARS PROGRAM. IT GOT TOO GOOD. THESE GET 3 MPG BETTER THAN A PT CRUISER

I had a 1994 Lincoln town car and a 1998 Cadillac Sedan Deville and both of them were the best cars I've personally ever owned. Gas mileage was excellent on both and my caddy would go on any winter road I took it on. There would b 4 wheel drive trucks stuck on hills and in ditches and I would just cruise on around them. I wont say never but extremely rarely did it spin a tire or slide while goin down a steep hill or goin up a hill. I miss both them cars so bad. Engine blew and axle broke in my 1994 and fuel sending unit, back shocks, etc.... went bad on my 1998 and I finally had to trade it in. I miss both them cars so bad but someday, I will own another one

Most Grand Marquis have a 2:75 rear gear and easily achieve high 20's on the hwy. Mine, (an '06) from San Antonio to El Paso (where the speed limit is 80 mph) got 28.4 with the A/C blowin' !

I get that driving on freeways. Same 98 as his. I like the 98-02 style and suspension. Only issue I have are coil packs go (they are the stock ones). I buy motorcraft replacements, the guy at advance auto sells me them for $30 when they go out. I just have a code reader to know what to change.

  • @TechNCReviews

Randy on all those old ford's the gas mileage after a battery change or when the battery drains down to zero and it restores battery voltage the fuel mileage will count up and after a consecutive 100 plus Mile drive the computer will recaulate the real gas mileage. So don't get disappointed when you drive it again and the average mileage drops down to 15 to 18 mpg.

I had a Lincoln rental that was another Crown Vic / Grand Marquis clone, except the rear roof had a curve to it. It was no car for the bumpy, twisty, narrow roads around here, but it handled nicely and was comfortable over all the bumps. I was shocked at how nice a car it was.
Compare the Police car to the Grand Marquis when you've had enough time in both Randy.

In the city I get terrible gas mileage. Maybe 14 miles per gallon on my Crown Vic 08 police interceptor. But those big V8 are known to get better gas mileage on highways. How much better I'm not sure but it's definitely better than the City by a lot.

Yeah it's normal to get that kind of gas mileage out of them Panthers. Some people look at me like I'm full of poop when I tell them that I get better gas mileage out of my v8 than what you can get out of most v6 cars. Them Panthers are made to drive and that is why I have had my 97 for 4 years and the next car will be another panther, hopefully a Lincoln Town car but a panther no matter what.

Had a 2003 Marquis and I regularly got 30+ mpg on the highway with a fairly heavy foot.

My parent's '00 Crown Vic always got 25-28 mpg, and even at 250K+, my Son is still getting 25 mpg. And the 4.6L is still going. Maybe that's why FoMoCo stopped building these? They last too long?

Randy i know it is a small cosmetic damage but I would love to see that sun visor repaired. I feel like it would make a difference.
