Hello, I’m going to India in October for a charity trek in the Himalayas , would these be a good substitute for leather boots as the weather will still be 20 odd degrees !
Hi Imran, that's a really tough question! All I can say online is that the best boot is the one (pair) that fit you - get to your local Cotswold Outdoor and get fitted by one of our experts. We take several sets of measurements to get you the perfect pair!
I’m a bit wary of purchasing these. I’ve read a number of user reviews and many say they’ve had them leak in a short time of having them. I live on the edge of Dartmoor and in winter it’s cold, harsh, wet and boggy and I need a tough, waterproof boot. Are these good enough for Dartmoor?
Hi Naz, the X Ultra Mid GTX is one of the lightest mid boots on the market, so for fast and light adventures they are perfect. If you're regularly bog hopping on flat ground, or out in all weathers regardless, then you may want to team the X ultras up with a heavier pair of boots for the really bad days, or for trips when you know you'll be encountering inclement weather periods. I keep both pairs in the car and can select the right pair for the right use! Thanks, Tom
@Cotswold Outdoor hi, Thanks for the info. Ended up purchasing a pair of Mammut Trovat Tour High GTX Boots back in October and haven't looked back. They are superb Boots and they've taken everything dartmoor has thrown at them. I highly recommend.
Just bought these Salomon X Ultra 4 gore tex shoes from Cotsworld. Luckily they fit me just as well as my well worn out 3 year old Merrells. They are super light, I just hope they last a few miles.. lol Time will tell.
Hi SB, I hope so too! The conundrum with lightweight well fitting shoes is they are so comfy they get worn much more and then wear out quicker because we never take them off! To help improve the life of them wash and reproof regularly (Nikwax footwear cleaner and Fabric & Leather proofer, or our Imbox machine if you live close to a branch) and pull out the footbeds after a walk to release the sweat!
Hi Tom. Just bought my wife & I these Salomon’s. We don’t tend to do mass amounts of walking, due to our work routines, but we do try get out as often as possible & need the decent socks for when we do.. our walks tend to be local walks in and around the shibden valley (where we live) so which socks would you recommend to pair well with our new Salomon X-Ultra mid’s? Thank you. Best Regards, Christian.
Hi TYB, Nice place in WY to have local to you! RE sock thickness, it completely depends how you fit into your boots. If you have quite a snug fit already then you might want to go for a thinner sock that still provides cushioning and wicking, such as a Smartwool PHD, or if there's lots of room then something like the Smartwool Trekker might be a better deal. The best way to find out is to pop into store with your boots and try some on! Cheers, Tom
Tried these on yesterday felt so light and comfy currently using mammut which are too narrow.
Are they good for winter? max -15 Celsius
is it normal for this shoes tight at the middle side? or I need to get the wide type?

What kind of socks should I use with those boots?
Thank you!
Which do you think is the best foot for thru hiking for those who have wide feet?
