After experimenting a bit with these settings, here are my results: I opted OUT of the Beta program but did enable re-projection as per your video (very useful suggestion BTW). There are 2 lines with the "//" (comment lines) as you pointed out. The first one enables re-projection, the second one enables a "reprojection indicator" which shows up on my display so I know re-projection is working. The colored indicator appears in the upper left corner of the visuals as a small colored square. It is hard to see if you try looking at it directly but it is there with averted vision. This indicator is kind of annoying so I disabled it by editing the second comment line and put the "//" back in. So, it appears that Beta is not needed for re-projection, just as I thought. As far as the Beta thing, my philosophy is that if the game or app works fine without it the better. If anything breaks after an update in SteamVR software then it might be useful to enable Beta so that hopefully you get the fix much sooner than you would without it, and once the Beta that fixed it becomes the official update then turn Beta off again. Also, enabling Beta in the SteamVR software and re-projection make absolutely no difference in the quality of the image or resolution, so don't look for improvements in that area by enabling it. And if there are any differences due to changes in the Steam software then I believe it is better to wait for the official update rather than run your games and hardware in an unstable mode. More than 2 cents worth but free of charge :)

Hi, this seems a great video tutorial! Unfortunately, we only came across this after spending SIX HOURS trying to set up a borrowed HP Reverb G2 (version 2) for Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 (MS FS2020) yesterday. Sadly, we are no nearer so the guy had to take it back. As you rightly point out, this is hardly 'plug & play' stuff. To date, we have yet to find ANY help on how to set up a HP Reverb G2 within MS FS2020, using Steam (which accounts for all me simulation stuff). I am a tad confused where all this Steam VR 'Beta' comes from? Our biggest problem yesterday was not getting the on-screen visual of the left and right eye to actually show in the VR headset itself. All we kept getting was blank screenview (black). We are really screaming out for a step-by-step guide on what order to open certain programs (including MS FS2020) and the additional bits like Windows Mixed Reality (WMR). And is there now a difference between WMR for Windows and one for Steam?
Thanks for the video. Mine was set at 1700pixels wide by default... What is the reason of supersampling? you mentioned you shouldn't do it as it will effect game performance. My understanding, it tells the PC you are running a higher "screen size" than you actually are. But why would anyone go above the native resolution? What about in VR videos. Is it all the same?
Great question. Super sampling will use a form of anti aliasing to actually increase resolution in a VR headset above the native resolution. It's not necessary on the reverb but the index responds very well to super sampling in the 100+ to 150% range
what is the reprojection for???i also dont get the win mixed vr folder while i do have it installed.. not the same in common folder... maybe its fixed already hmmm

Hello. Thanks for a great video.. one question. Steamvr updated 2 days ago and there is now a option to enable reprojection in settings but nothing happens for me like that.. do I still need the Fidel with the files before it works in steamvr?
do you know if there is a way to enable reprojection for individual games. I use reprojection on the Rift S for DCS, Squadrons, IL2 , and other seated experiences, but for games like boneworks I want as many frames as I can get. Do you have a solution for that or would I need to go back and just keep adding the forward slashes?
So this is old at this time. So nothing looks the same and these options are no longer on the web page. Hahaha, found where you are I didn't have steamvr installed correctly.
Ok this is all well but steam doesn’t see my HMD HP REVERB G2. I don’t get the vr tab on the top right. It was there at one time . The mix reality portal doesn’t show what the headset is seeing. Question for anyone including the author, how much of a difference in image quality does it make to turn on Beta on this? I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary and if it doesn’t make that much difference then it’s certainly not worth the risk of running on a mode that is essentially experimental until all the guinea pigs have chimed in and the Beta adopted as the official version, which apparently happens in Steam quite often. Has anyone tried it both ways and can report significant differences in image quality? The reprojection does appear to lock the fps at 45 and that might be useful but the beta part Is what I question, but I’ll accept a solid technical argument in favor of it if anyone here knows that much about it and has tested it both ways, otherwise these videos are just propagating myths without any solid evidence for stuff.
If u want reprojection you need the beta simple as that. No other reason to use beta IMHO. That being said I have had 0 issues on the beta and need reprojection for IL2
@@2Old4Forza Now that may be "solid argument" for it, solid enough but I will have to try for myself. Hard to believe that you can't set up reprojection w/o the beta but I will look. Thanks for the reply.
@@2Old4Forza I've been testing it in X-Plane (reason I bought the Reverb) and I see no difference at all between the default settings without the Beta or reprojection and with those options enabled. What is IL2? Maybe all of this is application dependent, maybe needed for some types of games or maybe months ago with older versions of the Steam software? SteamVR seems to update their software quite frequently and all of the features that were at one point only available in some prehistoric Beta are now in the default version. If you have some explicit reason for needing Beta I would appreciate your feedback as I'm trying to understand the technical reasons for it. I appreciate the time and effort people like you put into these videos but I really think there should be good explanation of what and when these options are needed, because one shoe size does not fit them all.

Hello. Thanks for a great video.. one question. Steamvr updated 2 days ago and there is now a option to enable reprojection in settings but nothing happens for me like that.. do I still need the Fidel with the files before it works in steamvr?
yup i believe you do need to still edit the files as per this video even with the new steam VR
do you know if there is a way to enable reprojection for individual games. I use reprojection on the Rift S for DCS, Squadrons, IL2 , and other seated experiences, but for games like boneworks I want as many frames as I can get. Do you have a solution for that or would I need to go back and just keep adding the forward slashes?
hi i get as far as clicking the settings nothing comes up also no o[tion to select beta ib steam vr
you no longer need steam VR beta. this video is over a year old. Its in the steam store
The headset is working in MS2020 only. I can get in the cliff house and browse around and see my two monitors but steam doesn’t see the headset. Any one having this same issue?
you need to install steam VR again from the sounds of things
@@2Old4Forza been there done that 5 times. Even did the portal. Even took steam out and reinstalled it. Same. Each time it gets worse. Thanks for the reply
@@carlosa.avalle528 my research said the beta was required for re-projection, but I did not try to enable it with out first updating to the beta, let me know what you find !
i have a different steam vr menu a newer one i cant select assetto corsa to specify the resolution only acc and pcars 2 are in the list can you help??
I no longer have AC listed there either. Use pixel density in game to set super sampling (it's the same thing with a different name) it will default to your steam VR SS value. I run that at 106% still
@@2Old4Forza did you OC anything? waht reflection setting do you use? 106% 2784*2728 legacy on or off?

@@bobjackson3237 in my steam VR 106%as = 2208x2164 (or so coming from memory) there is no need to super sample the reverb so I set the resolution as close to native as possible. Here is a video on my AC graphics

@@bobjackson3237 sorry reverb. Index responds well to ss. On a 2080ti 150% should be fine, possibly more
How did you solve the cable issue?
the issue thats it is just huge and kind of annoying? I really dont even think about it any more...kinda just forgot about it.
@@2Old4Forza No, the cable clip loses connection and then the headset resets.
@Totally Legit luckily i have never had that issue. perhaps you could apply some electrical tape to the inside of the clip to make it a tighter fit? or start an RMA, I had to deal with an RMA and the HP customer service is good.
@@2Old4Forza i had to import it and there is no support for the device in my country.
And looking for fixes was how I stumbled onto this video. Lol
Guess I am selling a kidney in order to buy the g2.
@@totallylegit4092 that is a bummer....
Will a GTX 1080ti FTW work ok with it?
As long as u have a cpu to support yes
@@surfwidow depends on what title for IL2 I recommend something that runs at 4.7+ on all cores. There is a significant fps increase at 4.9 in IL2. Racing sims are less demanding on CPU. For sim racing 4.3 is ok
@@2Old4Forza ACC is very demanding.
@@Heart0rHead ACC is not a good VR experience even when its at 90 fps IMO. Looks blurry and just strange compaired to AC / any other sim.

Dude, 5:34 I will never download a EXE just for a setting, forget it!
i believe the win+y setting is now adjustable from WMR control panel as it should be.
It's not an *.EXE, it is a *.REG, it makes a patch directly into the Windows register, is perfectly safe.
