    Worked on Rahoy, the deer exclosures were shocking when you saw the differences both sides of the fence. The deer and sheep browsed every last oak seedling. Inside the fence was an emerging jungle of vegetation, young oaks popping up everywhere. There is hope yet!

    When I grew up in 70s Germany it was normal to us to find parts of the woods fenced out to let new trees grow. The UK needs professional forestry.

      well that's the problem, if they bring back wolves, those will kill livestock and the price of meat will be directly effected by it.
      there's much more to consider with introducing once native animals than that of plants.

    Hello Woodland Trust! Just thought you would like to know that you have a typo in the link in the video blurb - there's an 's' missing at the end of scotland...I tried to click through to the website last night and it wouldn't work, so I just did a google search for it, and checked the URL. I'll remove this comment once it's been rectified so as not to cause any confusion for future viewers :-)

    Are you still permitted to burn the Rhodedendron once you have chopped it down? This would seem the best way to consume the wood, even if very smokey and clearly releases CO2. I used to do a lot of this many years ago when I was a conservation volunteer, great exercise and the fire kept you warm.

      Absolutely, this! The reason they don't talk about it is the sheer amount of money that the terrible industry makes. The entire reason that the whole island of Britain has been turned into domesticated pastureland is because of the sheep and cattle industry, stretching a long ways back into humans first arrival. Nature knows what she's doing when she brings the balance of deer/wolves/bears, and only WE made a mistake in our destruction of the natural balance and a continued destruction through our keeping of sheep and cattle.

    • @kamifae5928

      That is not how balance is kept in an ecosystem, humans stuffing our grubby hands and messily trying to "fix" the mistakes we made by attempting to control nature is what caused this mess in the first place. It will NEVER do anything other than make money for those in power.

      @@kamifae5928 yes we definitely should try and fix the issues we made when we didnt know anything. hunting tags are how successful wildlife management and population control works

    • @kamifae5928
      @kamifae5928 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@evansilva3045 No, actually, I don’t believe it is. American states are absolutely running themselves ragged trying to figure out how to kill natural predators while also killing their prey. It's absolutely idiotic. It’s quite ridiculous to think that humans, going out with their little guns and parade, shooting animals and dragging them back home, eat the corpses and develop heart disease, to shit out their excrement into the ocean (removing nutrients from the ecosystem) is in any way helpful to the environment. Human "hunters" a mess upon the ecosystem, look at what's happening to the prey bird populations in WA, OR, and CA that are going extinct because hunters bullets are ending up in their systems via their prey and killing them. It's all a lie, humans are not hunters, humans might pretend and play dress up and walk with their little guns but they are not hunters, and that is not natural to the ecosystem and it destroys any and all balance that could exist.
      NATURAL PREDATORS are the only solution, but the only solution that doesn't make any one money, the only solution that doesn't require upkeep and endless funding and power exercises by politicians and governments. Wolves, bears, lynx, those are the only ones who are fit to keep balance in the ecosystem and the land. We know this for a fact, whether the money-makers want to admit it or not.

    • @fionamcgregor4268

      The system of deer hunting is different in Scotland than in the US. Most of the land is owned by individuals. They have vast estates. They make money by selling deer hunting holidays, so need the deer on the land. No deer, no income. In most places the deer are "managed" by gamekeepers, but not enough to keep the numbers down to a level where they don't do damage, especially during the winter when they come down to lower elevations when the weather conditions are too harsh for them on the more exposed slopes.
