    Hey Ron,
    Fab review as usual, music in the background is not too intrusive, if anything it it adds to the video in a positive way.
    Bought Passion Play, the re-issue, a while back, having seen an earlier review of yours and after listening to it on you tube and I love it thanks for the heads up! Strangely the wife is not so keen.
    In fact I loved it so much I sought out the Original Japanese Pressing and found a mint copy after several weeks of searching.It arrived yesterday and I am looking forward to listening to it later.
    Keep up the excellent posts!

      One 4 The Record Please let me know if you hear any differences what your listening experience is like comparing the 2 records. Was it the new reissue with the big book or a domestic older reissue? So happy to hear you Love that record that one just gets better the more you hear it. Thank you for letting me know. And Gratz on the Japan Original very Cool

    Like that Bowie poster in the background. Still have my vinyl copy of P. Play. I like it. Tull came to Nashville in 73". Good show!

    Glad you're back, Ron! I like the music in the background. I don't think it detracted from the conversation at all. And I'm looking forward to your "best of reissues" video!

    Great comparison video Ron, much appreciated! Looking forward to the 'best of' as well; sounds like a great idea.
    The volume of the music was perfect for this type of video; it gives the flavor of the music without being distracting. If you wanted us to hear nuance it would of course have to be louder but that wasn't the point off this one.
    Cheers, Tom

      High Rant District thanks Tom The reason I don't usually play music in the background is because so many others do and play the music to loud so you can't hear what they are saying clearly. The point of the video is not to play music but to share my opinion on the records. thanks for your feedback much appreciated.

    It's really hard to judge on these reissues if it is the mixing, the digital process, or the fact that the tape is 40 years old is the issue... the one thing nice about original pressings are they are frozen in time - they don't disintergrate like the tape does, but original or early presses have plenty of factors too, like the quality of the stamping, the play life that record actually had... so many variables...

    hey ron, glad to see you back. as usual great video with some valuable info. the music in the background is definitely not too loud by the way. i had a question about the bob dylan mofi reissues. have you given them a spin and if so how do they compare to the originals? (nashville skyline and new morning). also wondering if you've listened to the grateful dead american beauty rhino reissue and how it compares to the mofi? looking to upgrade and thought you'd be the one to ask. thanks!!

    The reissue is the later one with the large book. I am going to keep it just because the book is rather cool. As for the Japanese pressing there is no comparison it is far superior sound when played back to back against the reissue like lifting a veil. I can't get over the difference the vocals sound much more vivid and the placement of the instruments more akin to a live experience.
    Best £60 I have spent in a long time, at least since I got DSOTM Pro Use but that's another story.

    Thanks Ron. I'm a big JT fan and you saved me some money. Also curious whether you've gotten any of the Rush reissues. I don't have much to compare them to, but they sound pretty good to me so far.

      vinyltarian sorry no Rush reissues for me so far store.acousticsounds.com/d/103725/Rush-A_Farewell_To_Kings-200_Gram_Vinyl_Record
      when I read information like this it is very encouraging that this record will sound fantastic and most likely be the best sounding copy ever produced

    Yeah, I bought the 2011 Steven Wilson remix of Aqualung, which was just pressed in 2015, and it came with a nice book like A Passion Play, but it doesn't sound nearly as good as the Classic Records pressing. A lot of the stereo instrument separation is lacking and a lot of details are obscured (the bongos on "Mother Goose", for example, are a lot clearer on the CR pressing). On top of that, Ian Anderson's voice just doesn't seem right to me, it's a little too loud, especially on "Up to Me". Overall, it's a pretty poorly done mix and it just boggles my mind that in the included book, it mentions something about the original 1971 mix not sounding very good. Anyone who has heard the CR pressing will disagree.

    • @RocknRonni
      @RocknRonni  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Purple Sabbath Thank you for your great review. I agree whole heartily. The Classic record reissue is much superior. Any other analogue pressings will better these poorly done digital reissues. Steve Wilson got the digital copy's from the record company to remix. Classic Records got the original Master tape from Ian Anderson to remaster to make another original analogue lp pressing.
      One way you make poor sounding records to sell for profit to unsuspecting people that have never purchased any Jethro Tull records. These young folks probably only ever listened to an MP3 version. To them these digital records sound good. But its all about what do you compare it to.
      Steve Wilson and his counterparts are purposely making records for the sake of making records.
      The other way you make great sounding records to sell to folks that care and appreciate great sound. You purposely make the best record you know how too.

      +Ron Beaudry (Rockinroni) Yes, the Steven Wilson mixes were mastered digitally at 96/24, which is a little better than CD quality, but still can't compare to an all analog master. I was actually only able to obtain the Classic Records pressing recently (I bought the Steven Wilson pressing last June) and I could immediately tell the difference. Love your videos by the way, though at eighteen years old, I might be your youngest viewer.

    • @RocknRonni
      @RocknRonni  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      well probably not the youngest and by far not the most inexperienced. You have made some great observations. The 2 Steve Wilson Jethro Tull reissues that I have compared were not good at all sonically speaking. When compared to the UK and Japan pressing that are currently still part of my collection.
      so glad you are enjoying the videos. thanks for watching and your great feedback.
