    I definitely have to agree that the character acting was the best part of the entire thing. Some parts even looked like rotoscopy from how realistic they looked.
    That animation quality really elevated the tension in the chase scene before Denji's death.
    The people who watched the pre-screenings certainly werent lying when they said it looked and felt like a movie; from the animation, to the use of the ED atop scrolling text, it straight up felt like an entire short film. Just add in those cinematic black bars and you have yourself a short anime movie that looks better than most other anime movies out there.
    Also, calling CGI "The Boogeyman of Anime" is an analogy i never imaged would fit so well. Good Job!

      Honestly, I'm kinda split on the ED. I get why its straight up scrolling text, as a reference to movies, its an artistic choice. But to me it seems kind of...lazy? I'm not sure how to put it. I would've just liked to see at least stills, or something. But whatever, it's only a minor nitpick.

    Wow finally another TH-camr that doesn't bring up budget every time there is sakuga.Instant subscribe!
    Anyway I have some thoughts. I never read the manga (though I should thinking about the things I hear about it). But to me, it seems impossible to adapt 100+ chapters with such visual fidelity like seen in this debut.I really wonder how the staff will go about it in the upcoming cour and later seasons. Maybe there will be a studio change(like SnK and OPM),or there will be less sakuga(like later seasons of BnHA iirc, I didnt actually watch them but thats what it seems like from sakugabooru lol),or compositing/digital FX of a lesser level. Or, maybe they will give enough time to the staff to make the second cour and later seasons as good looking as the first (kinda like BNHA s2 or Fire Force s2), or maybe they won't make more seasons in the future(since it's MAPPA and they tackle just about every popular manga or anime nowadays lol).Those last 2 options seem highly doubtful,considering how popular the manga is,though I have no idea.Only time will tell.
    Also, I saw some people saying on Twitter that there was no need to have Denji be CG, considering the staff they have lined up for this season, and that those staff could animate Denji just fine, and that they should save CG for more complex scenes. And they also said it looks bad, so bad that it made the second half of this episode unwatchable. On the contrary, I think it looks great. It gives a sort of uncanny feel like others have noted,and sure it looks awkward for some scenes, but I feel it's part of the appeal. I also feel that it's necessary to show off the Denji CG model in the debut, so viewers should get used to it, when they don't have the animators they had this episode or even this season, and the staff will need to rely on CG Denji, and viewers will be already used to looking at CG Denji. Besides for that, the CG Models are a small break for the KA's and the AD's,who are probably focusing their efforts more on character acting. It also is probably is difficult,though I don't know for sure, to animate a character with 3 running chainsaws, a mouth full of teeth, and make it move, no matter how "good" the character sheets may be.
    But that composite...it's beautiful.Along with the background art and the storyboarding. But at the same time it makes me worried that it might...melt...in the next seasons,like I mentioned before,or even in this cour itself. The staff set a pretty high bar with this debut,and I'm not sure they could keep to that bar with whatever schedule this show has,since after all, it is a MAPPA production, and it kinda melted on JJK cour 2 with those really rough 3d backgrounds and awful compositing,which was already bad to start off with.
    Sorry, it's a little long haha. TL;DR: this show looks really good,even the CG,and I'm afraid it looks *too* good. I'm worried it won't be able to maintain such high quality for future seasons or even future episodes this cour.

    • @ProbablyPretentious
      @ProbablyPretentious 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lmao I went through the whole comment dw, yea I'm all for a cgi denji, also from the trailers it's obvious that there will 2d denji as well at times. I personally I feel a cgi version of denji works aesthetically speaking. I do get why you'd think the quality will dip in the subsequent seasons, and it may. But at the same time I remember mappa's rage of bahamut, which was pretty much peak visuals for a TV anime at the time and the sequel managed to look just as good if not better. It's all about how the production team goes about it, and thankfully the committee is just mappa so they can take all the time they want. The production committee can't pass it to another studio cuz mappa is the production committee, so I think it'll be fine

    • @LoopHole101Z
      @LoopHole101Z 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ProbablyPretentious Thanks for reading lol.I don't know if you've seen the Canipa Effect video on studio MAPPA that he made. He claimed that studio had changed from a studio focused on bring personal projects by creative directors to life, to a studio focused on making whatever the most popular thing is and raking in the cash. It's certainly noticeable after they grabbed AOT s4 and made it ASAP, with a terrible schedule and a lack of care for the staff working on it, and had a detrimental effect on the show itself, I feel.
      The comparison to RoB isn't really fair imo.Rage of Bahamut was made in 2014 and 2015, back when mappa was sort of a normal studio according to that video. It also was a much less popular source material, and therefore they could take it slowly. CSM on the other hand is insanely popular, with fans begging for more animated content. I have a feeling that CSM will be another AOT, with seasons rushed out asap on a terrible schedule. We can only hope for the best.

    • @ProbablyPretentious
      @ProbablyPretentious 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The rob comparison is actually fair, unlike a jjk or an aot, csm is actually a passion project, something mappa hasn't been doing lately, yea the source material is really popular, but still the production process is quite different when compared to other modern mappa shows

      @@ProbablyPretentious Sorry sorry i didn't mean to be rude haha. It's just so rare to see a MAPPA passion projects these days. (I posted a reply earlier, but it didn't seem to register with YT lol)

    • @ProbablyPretentious
      @ProbablyPretentious 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well firstly the production structure is different, with no production committee involved, which allows complete creative freedom to the studio, second the sheer amount of talent involved with the project is really impressive, even by the full sakuga show standards. I don't think it's one single person's passion project however, I think more like the whole studio

    The visuals blew me away god dammit. However when denji actually turned into chainsaw man and started cutting shit I was a little disappointed, probably because I still have some bias against cgi but I think it was also because the ever-so-slight awkwardness of the cgi was jarring considering how majestic the rest of the episode looked and felt.

  • @JohnnyBoy7267
    @JohnnyBoy7267 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The quality of the show and the art and animation of the character movements is top notch but the action looked a little subpar with all that 3D and speaking of the 3D unfortunately is just slightly above mediocre IMO (strictly talking about Denji and some of his scenes as chainsaw man).
    Oh and those 3D cars looked bad that's the only thing that was bad in the ep but overall i quite enjoyed it and was surprised how slow the pacing was cause i was expecting fast pacing because of how the manga is like and considering there will be only 12 eps, i mean they literally adapted only the first chapter.. i did not expect that kind of pacing and i actually love it.

    • @yolkstew6568
      @yolkstew6568 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Most animes use 3D cars anyways. I’d agree that the CG texture needs some polish (common issue with whatever software MAPPA uses for their 3D animations), otherwise a great first episode. What made the mediocre CG good was mostly Studio Capsule’s rad composition. Kudos to the production team for this adaptation!

      I guess that would somewhat work for just the cgi, but csm already has a very desaturated, muted look, desaturating it further is overkill I'd say. And using third party services to do so seems like too much work tbh, it's fine if it works for ya ig. I always watch stuff the way it releases
