I once made a 4 foot by 6 foot self portrait of my face entirely in crayons just because my college professor said it would be too difficult 😅. There’s no erasing, but what I did find is if the wax builds up more than you can draw on you can iron it off with a second piece of paper. This sends all the pigment into the paper and removes the excess wax. Then you layer on it again! Really expands your color pallet! It should also be noted that some colors, like red, require more oil to be saturated as compared to other cooler colors so blending with different consistencies can be challenging.
This makes me want to draw freely especially because I'm busy designing stuff and making art for my senior yr in college. Happy to see you be happy making art as always! :)
i remember in school we did an art project where we did underpainting with watercolor, colored over it with black oil pastel and scraped little animals on it ^^ this video really reminded me of some sweet childhood art memories
I think you would enjoy stabilo woody pencils if you haven’t tried them already! They are my go to for warming up and just doodling like a child (they are made for kids lol) but still very pigmented and the color range is actually pretty nice!! They won’t break in your hand under your pressure since they are a chunky wood
So much fun! I loved the freeness! There are many really beautiful oil pastels but they are messy! I love layering them and then making sgraffito marks, but yeah, super messy. You could try water-soluble wax crayons, they are a lot fun! But not cheap.
I really like the free, playful nature to this piece with both the cheap supplies and your art style! I totally agree with you on your point of loosening up with your art every once in a while, it's not only fun but you often surprise yourself by unintentionally coming up with new ideas, and techniques etc. Time to dig out my old crayons I think...
This reminded me of my first time using oil pastels in years. I remember hating oil pastels when I was a child, but then when we need to use one for one of my uni projects, I was really surprised how great they were! It was like using oil paints but in sticks lol. I really loved this video.
I had the same opinion when it came to oil pastels as a kid but now in my adult years I LOVE the messy look I get with the illustrations I make 🥰 I love drawing characters and using pastels for their hair to give it some texture ❤️
Ngl this video felt like such a different venture, and I loved it! The loose vibe of these pastels are quite inspiring and I have been loving your work in this new year 💛
Yay! I watch Black Bean CMS on here and they do a lot of cool oil pastels stuff. Their videos are also super entertaining. They use all sorts of cheap to higher priced stuff. Because of them I use the mungo gallery oil pastels which I really like.
Sennelier is amazing but very pricey. I also can recommend Neopastel by Caran D'Ache. They are super creamy and highly pigmented. They are not cheap but cheaper than Sennelier.
Ehiiiiii, I reeeeeally loved this video! It was also refreshing to just watch it - and, yeah, maybe I should visit a cheap-art-supply-shop! As for GOOD oil pastels, I think no brand (that I know) can be compared, not even remotely, to Sennelier! And I heard they were created specifically for Picasso when he stopped at the Sennelier shop and said, "Ehi, need some oil paint that I can carry around and paint with without the hassle of solvents blah blah blah." And that's what they created! :-) Looking forwards to the next video! You can never have too much Furrylittlepeach! Hugs from cold and gray London!
I haven't seen your videos in quite a while and it was so soothing to sit and watch you play in your studio again. Now time to binge everything I've missed in my absence! 💖
Sooo many art and life lessons wrapped up in a joyful bow! Curiosity and playfulness are such great ways to learn and grow. Watching your process has been super helpful to conceptualize practicing this attitude toward art. Love this video so much, thank you for sharing! 🌻
Wonderful. It definitely makes me want to go play with more mediums. I have so many supplies that I hardly ever use. Also, that final drawing is soooo cute. I would definitely buy it if you made a print of it. I'm sure that's not your intent, as it's just a sketch but the energy and playfulness shows in the finished result which would be a pleasure to look at everyday
I love this kind of content!! Experimenting with new and cheap art supplies for fun! I like studio vlogs and all but sometimes, especially lately since I’ve been sick, they make me feel bad about my own productivity or lack there of, while as these types of videos are so light hearted, fun, freeing and inspiring!
I did this recently with both Mr. Sketch (scented) markers and also those skinny Pentel fine point markers. Both were big faves of mine as a kid. It was such a nice, sensory walk down memory lane!
I quite enjoy using student grade(it's actually for children) faber-castell oil pastels, I'm sure they aren't near anything professional quality(in a archival sense) but I also don't think spending too much on oil pastel makes that much difference. A pack of 24 is around 8 dollars and the studio quality version is around 19 dollars for 36 pieces. I also like pentel arts oil pastels, a pack of 50 is around 9 dollars(0.17 per piece), they work really well, vibrant colors, easy to blend and really fun to use :) p.s. I've seen many youtubers use gallery mungyo, never used them but if you want to get into the medium you might as well start from there given the immense popularity.
Pental, cray-pas and crayola have good ones. Cray-pas comes in 3 or 4 different sizes and you can buy singles. Sinneliar(idk how you spell it) is the best ones made, pricey but amazing. They come in 2 different sizes, regular and jumbo. You can buy singles or sets of them.
What a great video! It’s always nice to try out supplies without pressure. I used to use oil pastel a lot in college for creating colour stories and I used linseed oil to blend them, it can get messy but it’s fun as well. ✨
That is so cute. Love the painting/coloring.You have to try the crayola Twistables crayon colored pencils. It's so fun trying different child's supplies. Great video
Sennelier is great, but they're super super soft. If you want a bit harder of an oil pastel, mungyo gallery and caran d'ache oil pastels are good and still blend well
This is exactly what I needed right now and I loved the result! I have honestly not really thought about negative drawing before but I am been trying to loosen up my shapes and this could be a really good way to do it! Thank you ♥
This was wonderful to watch 😮🥰 I love seeing artists loosen up! I’ve been learning to do the same for a long time, makes me happier than observational drawing all the time. Especially when it’s just for myself anyway 😂🦊
Yay a new video! Edit: Just finished the video, there's a great art TH-camr called BlackBean CMS who makes amazing art with oil pastels! You could always check out his reviews to see what the good (and not so good) oil pastels are!
Love this relaxing video! Too funny you said Kasey Golden because I literally thought of her when you said they were more like a crayon 🤣🤣🤣 adorable work per usual ❤️
Just watching this was so fun and liberating. As a portrait artist I don't get to play around that much, which is a shame. Thanks for the content and the good vibes :)
Mmmm if it scratches off so cleanly, maybe make a colorful wash mix and layer some dark color over the top with crayons and then scratch out the stars...? Or even make both layers with cayons...?
i bought a pack of oil pastels for like $7 bc it was the same ones we used in art class in elementary school and im so excited to play around with them again 🥰🥰
I feel like even when you try new mediums, you always speak kindly to yourself and have a childlike sense of play. 🙂🌷🏠 thanks for being an example to us all. Another technique to get loose is timed exercises!
I don’t understand everything, but you inspired me to try this little cute fox in the dark night. 5 minutes after your video I draw it 🦊🌒✨ I am not an professionell artist. But I love to draw cute things 🥰 makes me so happy and helps healing my depressions! So muchas gracias for your video!🥺❤️✨
I bought oil pastel few months ago, still thinking what to draw with it coz I still no idea how to draw with oil pastel but this video inspires me! Thanksssss Sha'an!
I guess I need to give my oil pastels a try! (They have been collecting dust since I got them) Amazing textures and indeed looks looser than some other mediums. :) Thank you Sha'an for inspiring!
I know you talked about breaking crayons and pressing really hard, could you use a crayon holder? Like an instrument you can put the crayon in that acts like a thick handle to hold the crayon easier??
getting some really strong rainbow sponge lady vibes (affectionate)

I want to see your self portrait you did in crayons!
now i want to go buy some cheap supplies to play !!
DO IT!
play!!!!!!!!!
this whole video was so joyful, i can't wait to see more like this!!
Yay!!! So glad you like! Excited to film more videos like this!
What’s fun about cheap supplies is you don’t have to feel precious with it. You can just go for it! Thanks for sharing as always 😊
YES! i totally felt that. It felt so chill filming and editing this one! I wanna do more!!!
This makes me want to draw freely especially because I'm busy designing stuff and making art for my senior yr in college. Happy to see you be happy making art as always! :)
Please try it! 🤩
i remember in school we did an art project where we did underpainting with watercolor, colored over it with black oil pastel and scraped little animals on it ^^ this video really reminded me of some sweet childhood art memories

There were parts of the fox night drawing that felt so similar to Bob Ross painting videos.
Sennelier oil pastels FTW. Very buttery soft and easy to blend.
This reminds me of how I feel when I color with my kids. It's much more carefree and just fun. Love it! ❤
Ngl this video felt like such a different venture, and I loved it! The loose vibe of these pastels are quite inspiring and I have been loving your work in this new year 💛
😍🌟🤩🌈🖍⚘
Thank you!
literally the funnest video ever!!!! love seeing the textures and seeing you find new ways to make art omg!!!

The sound when you draw with crayons or pastels is so relaxing~~
Watching you color just felt so therapeutic 🥰
I loved do it !
This is so good! I love playing with my kids art materials since I can make mistakes and no one is judging. You're right, it's very freeing!
Sennelier is amazing but very pricey. I also can recommend Neopastel by Caran D'Ache. They are super creamy and highly pigmented. They are not cheap but cheaper than Sennelier.
watching you being so enthusiastic and joyful about trying things brings me so much happiness
Awww, I loved this series! So excited to watch this🥰
🤩🤩🤩
Sennelier are the best for both oil and soft pastels. Worth every penny. They have several iridescent whites that are gorgeous.
Somehow this video was extra comforting ♡ simple talking over some simple drawings with some simple artsupplies

these are my favourite kind of videos, there's something so calming and gets rid of the pressure of creating something perfect (: therapy.

I two times caught myself blowing on my screen to blow away the dust/ flakes., 🤣 haha
Wonderful..loving the looseness. 💛🌷😊🦊🌙
Caran d'aches neocolor pastels is wonderful! I especially enjoy the water soluble ones :)

Such a fun video! I recommend trying paint sticks, they are such vibrant colours and dry super quick. I have been using them recently to loosen up 😊
You are golden!
Such a great inspiration!!! Love love love how you make your artworks and how bubbly and fun you are🌷🌷🌷
You're too sweet angel! Thanks for watching ⚘

I was looking if someone had already recommended BlackBean ☺️ glad you did
Love this relaxing video! Too funny you said Kasey Golden because I literally thought of her when you said they were more like a crayon 🤣🤣🤣 adorable work per usual ❤️

The content I didn’t know I need ♥️✨
😍😍😍
This was so fun! I love the little foxy 🦊💫
Teeheehee!!!
Just watching this was so fun and liberating. As a portrait artist I don't get to play around that much, which is a shame. Thanks for the content and the good vibes :)

Love a music free art vid 😌
Love these kinds of videos!
This video made me so happy! 😃
iconic and inspiring as per usual
I feel like even when you try new mediums, you always speak kindly to yourself and have a childlike sense of play. 🙂🌷🏠 thanks for being an example to us all. Another technique to get loose is timed exercises!
I guess it doesn't matter what art supplies you use as long as you are a talented artist like Sha'an 😍🤩
It's so cool to see you play with a new-to-you medium and hear you be like "hmm what if i were to just..."
Also that dress is SO GOOD.
Munaygo is a good brand. I believe their second best to the Sennelier brand. Crayola oil pastels are also a popular low price option ppl use.
I always love these kinds of videos
❤❤❤
That turned out super good. Thank you 💕
Thank you sweet pea!
this is so cool! all I want to do now is go crazy on my oil pastels! really needed the inspiration kick today, so thank you so much for sharing
This is such a great video to see .. you could try Reeves oil pastels too
This is so satisfying 😍. I want to try pastels again now even though I didn’t like them in high school, haha.
it's funny because I once did this kind of activity and the only materials I use now are cheap ones lol (my favorite thing is kids' gouache bars!!)
whoops gouache sticks* I personally use Carioca's
So fun!@ You should try Stabilo Woody 3 in 1 Pencils. They're chunky and won't break as easily (I have a heavy hand too) :-) Love your work!
What camera equipments you use for taking videos ?
I know you talked about breaking crayons and pressing really hard, could you use a crayon holder? Like an instrument you can put the crayon in that acts like a thick handle to hold the crayon easier??
OMG! do they make those 🤩🤩🤩🤩
@@furrylittlepeach they are typically used for people with mobility issues but I think it would be great for your use of crayons and art!
The green is divine!!! 💚💚💚
🤩🤩🤩
Yaaay new video! Cherry on top of my day. 🌞🍒
Hehehe too cute 🍒❤
This makes me miss drawing with pastels! Keep inspiring! 🤍🤍🤍 Can't wait for your next one as always! 😍
What r the pencils you usually use? Always look so good!
For a good oil pastel brand, you can't go wrong with either Sennelier or Caran d'ache :)
The sennelier one is greay and someone else suggested I use Caran D'ache on tik tok! Maybe i should get some!
This is so pretty 😍 I feel like I want to try pastels or crayons right now. Greetings from Perú 👋🏼🙃
I literally just got some crayons and had this same experience last night I had so much fun
😍😍😍😍
omg I was just watching all your trying different prices of watercolour videos!!!
Hehehe 🤩
