That was fascinating, thank you Hiroya. You mentioned the dreadnought lost a little bass on light strings. Does the same apply to the OM when going from medium to light strings? I loved the sound of the dreadnought on light strings, but compared to the OM many of the notes on the faster song were less defined and overall blended almost into a "chord" sound. Whereas on the OM all notes remained clear and distinct. But the dreadnought does have a lovely, warm and mellow sound, even on light strings.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, in general when you use lighter gauge, bass is lesser. I agree to your observation.

I also love the sound of my Martin OM 42 with light gauge 80/20 Bronze strings; but my Dreadnaughts also get the same strings and sound just as good. I guess you have to feel it for yourself and listen carefully to nuances of the guitar to make any decisions on how you play them. Your video does justice to the light touch/heavy touch techniques and does explain why some players (newbies) get confused about the differences in sound and projection. Well done.

Beautiful playing. To me, the OM brings out the melody better, while the Dread has a pleasing harp-like body resonance

Did ever you try some round core strings (like DR Sunbeams) ? Havent tried them yet myself, but they have less tension, so maybe a medium set of those feels like a light set of "regular" hex core strings 😄

I have never played those strings yet, but I might try them. Thank you for sharing.

@@HiroyaTsukamotoMusic You have to do an extra step when installing round core strings, here a short info ( I know its for bass, but for guitar its the same thing ) :

They may not recommend mediums on that guitar long term :)

That is also true. We need to observe if guitar can hold often.
