I’ve been using an Olympus for about 3 weeks now and I love it! At first, I actually didn’t like it stock at all but I think I was still adjusting to the pop and power from this paddle (I came from a Volair M2F). Once I experimented with some 0.5g/inch tungsten near the middle to top of the paddle head, all my shots felt infinitely better. I have an aggressive playstyle so my M2F wasn’t great for strong putaways or counters, but the Olympus is perfect for that because it provides such good control and access to power when needed!
I'm impatiently waiting for the Olympus to arrive and plan on adding some weight on it, how much tungsten tape did you put on? Did you start at 10 and 2 going up? I'm pretty much in the same situation as you, have a M2F and .5 g tungsten tape and was planning to experiment a bit once the paddle came in, thanks for the info!
@@jpsanchez50I added about 7 inches of 0.5g tungsten starting at the 4 and 8 position (between the L and Y letters on the logo) running up to about the top corners. The reason for this is I like to hit towards the top center of the paddle for offensive shots and wanted to open the sweet spot in that area. I try not to hit the bottom third of the paddle so I didn’t add tungsten there for fear of added weight, but I might experiment with weighting up the throat after my local tournament this week. Good luck with the Olympus! After weighting it up to your preferences, I think you’ll love it!
I just got this paddle and I am still a newer player somewhat. I had a Selkirk halo 16 control xl from Amazon. Moving to a smaller 14mm I noticed that the sweet spot is definitely smaller than the larger paddle I had but when I do hit sweet spot, it’s gives a pretty decent amount of power for its size. It’s also very poppy and great at the kitchen. I definitely have not mastered this paddle yet and still messing around with adding weight but it’s a lot of fun to play with, doesn’t cause a ton of tennis elbow.
Solid review. In line with things that have been staid in discord and my own comments I’ve said on other review videos for this paddle. Fantastic paddle for tennis players or higher level players that want to keep up with the power game, but don’t want to be forced to change their swing mechanics. They simply need a little extra turbo vs. a big shot of NOS…lol
The put away after Aizec's tweener - well deserved lol. I wondered about filling the cells a long time ago and I'm glad to see someone take the time instead of just pumping out volume.
Thanks Chris for the durability testing on the foam. Hoping the NEXUS I just ordered is using the same type of foam on their cores. Guessing the foam being used in core cells is not the same as the foam being used in the outside edge of the core.
@@jwalker87051 Watched and "listened" to a guy playing the OLYMPUS for a few games. The sound off the face is what caught my "ear" I'll pick one up if the cost come down a bit.
I hit the Ripple for 60 days: crushed core. It's a very special paddle, but only for very advanced. Otherwise your hitting the back fence a lot. I've hit the Joola C2, G3, 3S, and mod. and they are disposable paddles that last 4 mo. tops due to core crush. just purchased and love the accurate special feel of this olympus. It's a better balance of control/power/pop and feels more commanding than the ripple. I've played the TKO-C and it has a tiny sweet spot, less balance/control than the olympus. J2K was quality, but bland. Six zero 15mm elongated, solid, good control/power is muted. I've just ordered another olympus, that's how good it feels for me (4.5 level)
More pop and power than the J2K. J2K is more of a balanced paddle. The AZUL would probably be more power on ground strokes, but less pop. With the AZUL you'd gain more stability though.
Played with a guy today who had an Olympus and noticed his sounded very different from mine. His sounded much more like a gen 3 "hollow" sound. Mine sounds more like a gen 2 paddle. I've had my olympus for about a month with probably 30hr of play. What does your Olympus sound like?
Have you noticed a drop off in pop? My first Olympus Core crushed and my second one suddenly felt muted. I noticed a significant drop in pop and it felt like I was hitting with a board. But what i noticed most of all was the change in the sound. Out of the box this paddle has a very distinct sound and that sound was gone. I contacted support and they are sending me a new paddle as I am still within warranty. This paddle has a ton of potential, but I feel they are still working out some of the kinks and trying to fine tune. Their support team has been amazing so I am still confident in my purchase but would like to see the paddle hold up better as they only offer a 3 month warranty.
I was actually considering a Monarch All-Court before I bought the Olympus! Definitely still interested in trying it one day as it seems to be a great option for aggressive wide body paddles
Comparing this paddle to the 12.7mm a lot in the video, and ive been basically looking for the batam 12.7 tko in a hybrid shape. Is this the paddle ive been searching for or will it be that much shorter in power and drives for me? Everything else im kinda liking. I like the swing weight. 8oz might be over what i like but could be overlocked since its low swing.
I don't really have one because of having to cycle for reviews lately. My top paddles I could go compete with right now would probably be: - Olympus - 11six24 Monarch All Court - Volair Forza Mach 2 - Honolulu Pickleball J2K - Bread & Butter Shogun and probably a few others. The paddles are all so good these days.
Thank you for the good review. How doe sit compare to the Ruby 14mm, J2K 14mm, and the Gamma Airbender 13mm? I have an Azul, but it's too poppy, although I like the power. I also have a Ruby 16mm with great control but not enough pop at the net.
Seems like a fantastic option, what are your thoughts or comparisons from the Hudef Mage pro gen 2 14mm that recently came out? Seems tough to beat in the 14m category for 119 w/codes
Hi there! I've got a question about shipping costs to Europe from the US. Do you or someone here know for sure whether or not there are any extra Customs Fees to be charged when a paddle is bought from a US website (like Spartus etc)? Pickleball is gaining ground in Europe gradually, I've started experimenting a couple weeks ago, but wanna get more serious about it. Thanks!
I used that paddle before I went to the Mach 2 Forza. It's a very solid all-court paddle, leaning to the power side. I liked it with half an oz of lead tape on the throat. Nothing crazy or unique about it - just very good all around and no quality issues.
Is the J2Ti going to dethrone the Shogun as the best "titanium" paddle? I've heard that it has more grit but I've also heard that most of the spin is generated through the dwell time. Would the loss of grit drastically change the outcome enough to definitively say that the J2Ti is the better of the two? Also I'm excited to see B&B Muy Loco come out, the first paddle I wanted was their hybrid paddle the Loco but it was discontinued and they're currently revamping it, excited to see what they changed
Im looking to use your discount for the 20%off sale Im a 4.5 player. Im currently using a neonic force 16m but want more power. Now my prospects are Olympus or azul or j2k or other. Which one would you suggest?
There's no way your tko-cx 12.7 was too heavy. I mained that paddle for months and it was the lightest paddle I've ever had. I put a ton of lead tape to increase the twist weight.
The one I got sucks! Tiny sweet spot with a huge drop-off in power. Inconsistent and can't play reliably with it. 4.25 player here. I complained to Spartus and returned it. They said nothing was wrong with it; I absolutely don't agree. Charged me a 25% restocking fee to return this awful paddle.
