I would have lost 7 moves prior to that. One of the reasons I really love to watch these types of matches is because you rarely EVER get to see a GM like Hikaru play against anyone OTHER than high ranked GM's. As a result you don't truly realize how great these GM's are at the game. They not only know how to make amazing moves, they know when you've made a mistake and how to exploit it. Hats off to Carlini. He played an amazing game and honestly it was incredibly instructive for viewers and entertaining as well. This is what chess should always be about. Entertaining AND instructive.

You can see every move made , Hikaru knows exactly what to do . Also yes he may have been a little nervous but he was getting exploited every other move. I suggest looking up 2200s vs top level players like Hikaru . Perhaps look up nemo, she’s a great player but constantly loses to top level players easy . Even 2200 players vs 2700 players are far inferior . Look up the new Eric Rosen video vs the botez sisters for instance , Eric is only 2700 and easily manipulates the game to beat them.
Look up Hikaru's speedruns and you'll see him destroy player after player without having to think about it. He is especially deadly with his knights in closed positions against lower-ranked players. It's amazing to watch someone's position collapse completely after a few knight moves from Hikaru.

I watched a Hikaru video where he was speed running against 900 and 1000 players. Someone in the chat asked him if he got bored and he was shocked someone would ask him that. He then talked about what a great game chess was and that he could never be bored with it. I thought that was cool.
He does seem to like this crew. But it is also pretty standard for top players to discuss games and crucial moves right after a match. And you know it's pretty standard because when stakes are high, Hikaru is probably the worst when it comes to sportsmanship lol

You must prevent White's night from getting to that premium e4 square. 2:57 - Bg2 is now too late, the only move I can think of here is Qd3, which opens a long side castle. 3:23 - Qd3 or Qd4, can't decide which is best?
