Oh man, now you’re killing me a giant bag of fresh shrimp!!! ❤❤❤..
Good again. Thanks.
Thank you sir ;)
I’ve been watching you the last few weeks and brother you are one cool dude I love the shanty boat idea and you are are absolutely living a great life and are the real true adventure of are time thank you for the tips and ideas and the keeping us along for the ride. I’ve always wanted to live on a sail boat but the shanty boat is something more my budget I’m from IL and wanted to move to Florida for the last 20 years keep up the good times brother
It's a really nice life's style. Lots of space ans freedom and natural beauty....if you like that kind of thing. Lol ;)
Another outstanding episode in your grand adventure. Safe travels Captain and Mate !
Thank you Mr. Breeze! :)
My time to relax with the shanty boat crew 😊
Hi Greta! ;) Wavey says howlllll-dy! :)
@@backwatersandbackroads ❤️
I did a lot of research on the Portland Pudgy, which I never even HEARD of until I saw your videos, LOL. What a wonderful little boat. Glad you are back!!
Hi Lisa ;) they are a little too pricy I think. We got a steal on this one. A couple bought a sailboat and it came with it. They didn't like it and sold it for a really low price. They're a bit heavy, and slow...but very stable. If you don't mind slow, they're a great dink
@@backwatersandbackroads I'll probably stick to my rarely used kayak lol. My hobby these days is basically donkeys and mules. Although I live in a resort town which is located on a natural lake so there's plenty of boating opportunities I'm just a couple miles out of town
@@LisaHouserman sounds really nice ;)
@@LisaHouserman I love Mules also! They were the animal of choice for many Mountain Men of Note! Missouri Mules for Big Men!
watching your last video and this one where you are ruing in the dark. in my days of boating, I put my lights on the very front of my boat and I could see real well just saying. really enjoy your videos. safe travels
I'm going to do that :)
Gotta get some fresh garlic in those shrimp next time and a baguette....to dip into the delicious garlic butter!!!!
Oh man...time to find some shrimp again. Maybe I can get a shrimp boat to run into us ;)
@@backwatersandbackroads I spent some time in Cedar Key and loved it. You can get shrimp there easily. Love your channel!!
Now all I can think about is fresh shrimp.
I could eat it several times a week;) we got more in SC
Shrimp are better with a bit of old bay seasoning and a pinch of salt. Best to remove shell before frying. Be sure to not overcook.
I did remove the shells. I'll try the rest next batch. Thanks! :)
Okay, I have to ask - at 6:17 - 'A penny saved is a penny earned' - just what is that pointing at Ben's face? LOL
A cigarette of course ;) lol
Howdy I was wondering how many miles you can travel with 12 gallons of gas?
We get approx 1 gallon per hour at hull speed. 5-7 MPH
Couple miles our you would have been fine. Sailboat not so much
Do you use red light on board?
I haven't, but it makes sense
Hi
Hi Logan :)
Where's my treat?
Did you pick one out? ;)
dont overcook...
The shrimp?
@@backwatersandbackroads over cooking makes them tough
A.T.S.A.B! Anything to save a buck! Keep on keeping on!
That's a good acronym to know right there ;)
Awesome! What a cool adventure! Wavey sure picked a good captain! Take care,
Thanks for being here :)
Just like the discernment in the middle of lake superior when you cut your engines off and just listen man.. we all have to listen man in the quiet, but it doesn’t happen for people anymore, man
Brotherman, that's why the Bible says "Be still and know that I am GOD" Ps 46:10
From what locals have told me, the name of the town is pronounced STEN-Hatchee. It is a neat place like all those Big Bend towns are. This is the last untouched place left in Florida from the sort of massive development taking place around me in the Orlando area. I had a friend who had that model of Bayliner. It was a great model. They were a very popular model. If it's in good shape, you can find them on the used boat market for a reasonable price. It's a good Loop boat for a couple or single handed. Nice video. Sorry I posted this here, I thought I had cleared being on this thread. I'm not going to delete and repost this. I'm on a phone and it's enough of a pain to post as it is.
@@IntheBlood67 agree
I really liked this place it is so old Florida its great there in off-season of course
A $1.50 is a $1.50. Better in your pocket than than the gas stations.
You got that right;)
What a wild and beautiful adventure Brenton and Wavey! And how cool of John and Dan to give you some shrimpage!!! Looking forward to showing this to my Brookings friends. Big hugs from me and the kitties! (And I’ll have what Ben is smoking)
Hi Eva! I know you'd appreciate Ben's "hemp" crop ;) HI to kitties
My beagle she was so used to where we lived at on the Cumberland lake Cumberland in Kentuck she was so used to running and laughing up the nice water there that come from the lake, we went to North Carolina after we had her for about 4 years and she ran up to the water and stuck her snout in it and two or three times and she just looked at us like we had poisoned her or something I feel so sorry for her, I think it ruined my whole vacation that guilty look that she throws us,, play got that look down pad taking break your heart if they want to 🥺
Your willingness to put in the work to get fuel outside the marina speaks volumes for who and what you are as a person. Respect.
And, as a former beagle owner (rip Bentley) I can appreciate what a devoted little companion you have. ❤
Thank you for those kind words.
You're a Cool Captain 😎 👌
Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪 Stay Free and Safe Travels 😀 🙏
Hello Ireland! I visited once years ago and loved it. Would go back in a minute.
As I was watching, and heard you say you were going to pass up Cedar Key, I involuntarily said, "Noooo" aloud. It was funny. Now you know why. Plus, Cedar Key is a cool little town. Really worth visiting. Maybe next time. Oh, and by the way, once committed, nice job managing an interesting arrival situation.
8:42 o man dont rinse in that water. Oils ect
I worry a bit, but no choice really.
Nice find with the empty airbnb docks! 🤙
If you're a wrestling fan Dutch Mantell is pretty good
Thanks for the video. So this was from back in February?
Hi Karen, yeap...Valentine's Day ;)
Peel and de-vein the shrimp. Then cook them in a Butter and Garlic mix with a splash of fresh Lemon juice added. When pink they are done.
should keep some Old Bay on the boat for cooking shrimp SO GOOD
It's practically the law! :)
Wondering, how would I go about finding out of or how far a person can go up the peace river in Florida? Really curious.
I really enjoy your videos. Makes me want to make a shanty then do the great loop. Plus a lot of side exscursions like going up the peace river!! lol
If you're on FB, join our group? "The Shallow Drafters Shanty Boat Club"
Glad to hear you are taking the scooter to Cedar Key. It’s quaint and has a funky feel to it.
A penny saved
Podcast/show suggestions. 1) Steve Deace(God and conservative world view) 2) Vice Grip Garage (old car revivals) 3) C&Rsenal (Old Gun History)
Thanks. I haven't come across those yet.
Another great episode. You are the man Brenton. Hopefully, I'll 3:25 get new knees the nexr few months, then I'm looking for a big barge to turn into my own shanty boat.
I'm excited to see what you build. I know you've been a fan the Shanty boat lifestyle for a long time.
We are thinking about becoming loopers due to your inspirational videos. Per Google the great loop is 1,200 miles long, if your average speed is 5 mph it would take 1,200 hours to complete. If you travel 100 miles a month you can complete it in 12 months. Does that sound about right?
I think the loop is closer to 6k miles?
One of my favorite live stream channels is The Ride Along Gang. He is a over the road trucker that chats while he drives every day), pretty cool. You and Bobby would get along real well, check him out.
Thank you!
I listen the Shawn Ryan Show mostly or Billy Carson’s Forbidden Knowledge!!!
I'll looks those up. Thank you!
Another great episode. Hope to make the trip from Apalachicola to Crystal River with my daughter someday. You gave us some insight much needed. Thanks.
A beautiful stretch right there
Doesn't it seem like boats with inboard motors are always breaking down?
The Why Files is a cool podcast. Non-political.
Oh yeah. I'd never got that route. Modern EFI 4-strokes make life easy.
I was just looking on Amazon and they have these child/dog gates. $25+ bucks each. Wavey couldn't fall overboard for sure.
I'm making some side gates this summer ;) stay turned
Listen to the "Pirate History Podcast" great history lesson about the maritime world .Safe travels ,love the video updates.
Excellent! Thank you
I have a 1970 Riverqueen 43foot rough shape .salvage or project?
Salvage:(
Id rather use the shrimp as bait to catch regular fish
One of your videos just popped up from 3 years ago which had a completely inappropriate caption briefly on the screen. I have been watching your videos for several months now and have enjoyed them but had I seen this video first I would not have watched all those that I have and that would have been a shame. Hope that was a one and done.
What was the "inappropriate caption"?
We know you’re ok, because we saw you in St. Pete after, and with your current check ins….but these entering the channels in dark moments…
Not ideal, that was a hard choice. 10 miles up into Cedar Key is a long ways at 5 mph
Oops the great loop is 6,000 miles long
As soon as the shrimp turn pink, or orange, they are done.
Thank you! I probably over cooked them. Still tasted great.
Leave the heads on adds flavor
Thanks fer the intell. Will try!
Me too ;)
Steinhatchee.....scallop land
So you would need to do 500 miles a month to complete the loop in a year. Does that look right?
I think it's longer than that. Since we started at the top of the Mississippi, it's even longer. We averaged about 20-40 miles a day, unless a reason to go longer.
I don’t disagree with your religious beliefs though.
Thanks for that. We're all on our own journey for sure
Those older bay liners are very, very very quality. They’re the same as Meridian.
I would be interested to know how many hours are on your faithful Yamaha
Hi Donald. I'd guess coming up on 3k hours?
Use red lights in your cabin. You can see
Good idea!
How's yer scoot holding up to the saltwater environment?
Terrible! A parts scooter at this point
Why are all your videos filmed over 4 months ago? Jc
Because it takes a long time to make a quality video. Many YT'ers have a lag on their content.
I like Jordan Peterson
Me too. He's got some wisdom on many subjects. He's unfortunately blue pilled on some important ones though.
Steinhatchee - looks like another Florida paradise.... treats for Wavey! Giggles . you're get chubby. Love the graphic at 6:16. Ben was way cool.
It's not far from you buddy. A good weekend adventure;)
I believe it’s illegal to have shrimp without old bay in most of the south. Better get some before they find out 👀 😂
Is that the coast guard rushing up on us again? ;) lol
Love it! Love it! Love it!
Thank you Bruce ;)
Where do you get your music for you videos … it’s great
Hi Rick, most of it comes from this German fella named Lobo Loco. I Link to his YT channel in the description.
Man, you cut your hair really short there! of course I’m bald man but looks good buddy!
Oh yes...it all goes, what's left of it ;)
@@backwatersandbackroads lucky we can say it all goes
You go or you no go man!
Hello buddy. I hope all is going grand. I just figured that your videos as far behind as this vid is from February. I am wondering when you will be in Georgian Bay? I am located here and would like to say hello when you are in the Parry Sound area if you are interested.
That's up in Beautiful Canada? I won't be making it up that far this year, but I do have plans for that area.
@@backwatersandbackroads oh ok. You are sticking to the USA side of Lake Huron to get back home?
Where are you now?
Steinhatchee got hammered by that hurricane recently.
Yes it did. Still some damage around too
I absolutely love your videos!
Thank you ;) I'm glad you found us
👍
Brother we were on the Gulf all week, and its HOT.
My friends from out of state were troopers, never griped about it even once, and it was every bit of 105F in the sun. You made the right call floating north during our summer. hope to see ya down this way come fall or winter
Im itching for a new video
Tomorrow around 5pm :)
Move your light to the front rails in front of the scooter. The scooter being white is blinding your vision. You had me worried for you with no lights on at night. Your braver than me.
Happy travels dude 😎
I agree
I'm going to work on the lighting for sure.
Hey Billy Bob that's what I have been called since I was in jr high school. Hated it until I realized the more I hated it the more they did it.
@@billybell5286 The older you get the more you'll get to realise it don't matter what other people think. Helping others is helping yourself is the long and short of it really Billy.
Smile on brother 😎
@@backwatersandbackroads
A rack on the back with a fold down ramp each side would be ideal. It'd lift the nose and dig the motor lower for better forward motion or fuel use. I've lived on boats for 16 years and have been a professional marine engineer for some of the time for a hire boat company here in the uk.
Outboards are juicey things and fuel ain't cheap. You could probably get twice the mileage out you fuel if you buy George Wiseman's Double Mileage Guaranteed pdf. Then adjust the outboard accordingly. I tried his recommendations on a honda generator and get triple hours to what i was getting. A clever fella for sure.
I love watching your videos.
Happy travels 😎

Wavey makings friend’s and influencing people! 😂
She's a chicken magnet ;)
I just saw the sign “Danger Shoal”..do you think it should read “Shoal Danger”? LOL..danger is more of a red flag..
Good question;) I might have ran into it while thinking about it ;) lol
@@backwatersandbackroads you may have just don’t run away from that thought
Definitely don’t run into any shoals..you are funny man
Steve Miller..lol..I’m probably like him
Mid February, March, April, May, June…by now you must have crossed your wake, as loopers say…looking forward to viewing the rest of the adventure, congratulations
always nice when the shrimp is shared out. It sucks they had to get ran into for it though. Hopefully doesn't take much to mend the bump. Sent you an email! hope to hear from you. Really enjoy the video. I am almost sad that a got through the whole series and caught up. makes waiting seem so long lol. Weather is finally nicer up here so maybe time to try and find our own adventures as well while we wait.

Wow, shrimp and steak!? Great food episode on this one.
I've been cooking Brenton style potatoes in my fry pan now. Thanks for the cooking tips amigo.
Absolutely;) a member and friend here on the channel got me trying the carnivore diet right now. So far so good ;)
@@backwatersandbackroads I know you’re not a cooking channel but it’s kinda neat when you share those aspects of the journey. Thank you.

@deannawood7522 I never hear from you two anymore, so figured that was the end of that.
Thanks again. Great video & memories.
Thank you! ;)
Often times the marinas are selling non ethanol fuel which is more expensive for no reason.
I agree. If you're burning right through it...no need for it
There's a reason, and that reason is ...government regulations requiring gas sold in urban areas (where most people live) to be cut with ethanol. That covers so much of the country that oil companies don't go out of their way to make non-ethanol gas for a lot of the places where it's still allowed. So, being made and sold in far lower volumes, supply and demand does its thing and the unit price gets higher.
@stacymcmahon453 that makes sense. I wonder if it sits around longer in the tanks like premium often does
@@backwatersandbackroads It would be interesting to get the scoop from marina owners as to how and why they price fuel at their fuel docks. Some wild-#%@ guesses: diesel boaters are savvy shoppers and will research prices around the area and plan their fuel stops, but weekend pleasure boaters either stop at gas stations while their boats are on the trailer, or don't really care and will pay the fuel dock prices for convenience. Or because they're a captive audience. And probably depends somewhat on the personality of the marina owner, terms of the contract with the fuel distributor, and other stuff I'm not thinking of.
Tarpon Springs is a cool town. Lots of history. Thanks for the video.
Buy some cocktail sauce. Boil until orange chill then peel and eat.

Love Crystal River FL.!
OMG i just realized your from Minnesota, super kool. I'm from McGregor MN
I pass through there all the time on my way back and forth from the UP to Brainerd
Those orange flags must be a legal requirement in Florida for airboats. All of them have one. Need a ride? That's what you call southern hospitality. The way it is around here.
Lots of friendly folks in that part of Florida;)
If you like seafood. You might think about getting a folding crab trap for catching blue crabs.
Did you get hooked on a tourist trap in Tarpon? One of the sponge boat tours?
Enjoy the Gulf.
I do have a crab pot, but we didn't bring it for this adventure. It's not a folding one, thatsa. Good idea
I think I would put the lights on a pole at the very front or on the railing so you are not blinded by the backwash light of stuff on the deck. Say like bow-fish lighting.
Good idea
Another great video much enjoyed saving the bucks seems to just take a little effort and exercise also liked the night travels I like moving in the dark as well just in tombigbee river for now but hoping to try it in the gulf as well . I guess I just like fishing in the dark it's so peaceful. Just keep the videos coming and keep on keeping on.
Another nighttime traveller ;) awesome. Sometimes it has to be done. Watch out for Witch Creek at night on the Tombigbee there ;)
