    When writing, it helps to be able to smoothly transition between contrasting thoughts. This is a good class. When i need to wash clothes, i deposit them in the washer, moreover, if i need to wash dishes, I place them in the sink. Despite sleeping on a yoga mat, I manage to get a good night of sleep, Furthermore, to compliment the sleeptime setting, I also play TH-cam videos of peaceful, quiet music.. 5 out of 6

    Pura vida Arnel🌷. I loved your creativity. The cricket sound you played gave a cool effect to the video. I got 6/6 in the test. Notwithstanding was a new word for me.
    These are my examples:
    1. Notwithstanding Blue Sky throws his fruit on the floor, I still giving him fresh fruit daily.
    2. Most people have fun in noisy places; conversely, I enjoy quiet places surrounded by nature.
    3. Arnel shares interesting topics in her TH-cam channel, alternatively, students can check out her website.

    • @ArnelsEverydayEnglish
      @ArnelsEverydayEnglish  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great job as always Kattia! I think I need the cricket sound effect in my real life as well 😆
      I love your examples!
      With "notwithstanding," it cannot be followed by a clause (subject + verb).
      There are a couple of options:
      -Notwithstanding Blue Sky's habit of throwing fruit on the floor....(Blue Sky's habit of throwing... = object, not a clause)
      -Notwithstanding the mess Blue Sky makes with his fruit... (the mess Blue Sky makes with his = object, not clause)
      If you want a clause, you can add "the fact that": Notwithstanding the fact that Blue sky throws his fruit on the floor...
      I hope this helps! :)

    Outstanding!
    I am a little confused. According to the information which I had about transitions before, they are conjunctival adverb, but despite is a preposition. Wr can use despite at the beginning but we can not use transitions to begin an idea. It is always used within the second sentence of a paragraph. If we use it at the beginning, it will be a linking or connecting word.
    Can you please clarify this .
    Thanks in advance.

    • @ArnelsEverydayEnglish
      @ArnelsEverydayEnglish  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's such a great observation! You're right, "despite" (like "notwithstanding") is a preposition. By "transition" I meant being able to go from one thought to the next. Rarely does "despite" begin a sentence without any connection to something before it. But, technically it would not be considered a transition word :)

      That's a great question Laura! No, "nevertheless" would not fit because the climate in the south isn't affected by the climate in the north and vice versa. They are simply two opposite types of climate and one action isn't contrasting another. I hope this helps! :)

    Notwithstanding that you look grate on teaching,you still don't know the very basic English.
    As above ,I used notwithstanding as a conjunction like although, even though,or thought.
    "I didn't like it. Notwithstanding, I remained calm"
    As above,I use notwithstanding as an adverb.
    I am not on the same page as you mentioned that notwithstanding as a preposition can come after a noun or a noun phrase since the fixed rule of a preposition must be followed by either nouns or pronouns,in other words,when you used LA as a real -life,they put it after a noun phrase, which acts as an adverb not mentioned by you that notwithstanding can come after a noun or a noun phrase.
    However,if you think I am mistaken on my explanation, you can educate me accordingly.❤
