Danny was one of those sensitive, brilliant musicians. He could have given us so much good music. We are grateful for what he left us. Praise be to Danny Kirwan.
The first time I heard "Sunny Side of Heaven" I crired. Granted, I was pretty high at the time, but still, OMG! Still my favorite Fleetwood Mac era was the brief time Danny and Bob Welch were the guitarists. Thank you SO MUCH for posting these two albums from the underrated genius. His touch and feel on the guitar are unmatched
@@martynh5410 ya it came today. I'm thinking "chance" cause after his FM fiasco it was pretty much a Second Chance for him. Really liking Midnight in San Juan. Guess that's next on the purchase list.
@@Miatacrosser Personally I think the quality of Danny's solo output fell as the albums were released. "Second Chapter" is outstanding, "Midnight in San Juan" is quite good, though "Hello There, Big Boy" I find difficult to listen to, particularly given what preceded it.
Thank you so much for this! Danny is so overlooked and was the backbone until the environment crushed him. He is the true genius of Fleetwood Mac in my opinion.
I like Danny Kirwan on Future Games album of Fleetwood Mac. I believe Sands Of Time is his masterpiece. But it is my first experience to listen to the music of his solo project…Oh! brilliant! Kirwan's warm-hearted songs and music make my heart peaceful and happy. Especially reggae-feeling's nice cover of Let It Be is filled with his originality. Probably Kirwan got happiness after leaving FM. In my country, Japan, it is difficult to get the CDs of these records. So I'm going to keep on listening to Kirwan's excellent three albums uploaded. Thanks for this uploading and no advertising!
It's even more difficult to get the CDs outside of Japan, since the CDs were only released there. Except for the the first album, which was released on CD in Germany.
I had to get the second and third albums off eBay, and they're the Japanese versions, and as far as I'm aware the only versions on CD. I have two versions of second chapter, but the remaster is far better. Controversial opinion, but hello there big boy is my favourite. Has some great pop tunes on it. Spaceman is a melancholy masterpiece in my opinion.
@@Miatacrosser It's got some great pop songs on it, but no beautiful guitar solos like on future games for example. It's still a great album, despite what a lot of reviews say about it.
Thank you so much for posting these three albums of Danny's. Sad that's all there is. Love his playing, his voice, and sensitivity. Back when, I first listened to "Second Chapter" for the first time, my first thought was ... Danny's in love. Don't know, but he sure sounds like he was at the time. Expecting blues explorations and sweet instrumentals, but lots of romance instead. Another facet of this soul. Bless Danny. PS, In 1969 after F. Mac released "Then Play On", Peter mentioned that there was a good chance that he and Danny would collaborate on an all instrumental album next. Then a bit later he said , he and Danny would be releasing their own solo albums. Woe, if these ever came to pass. What treasures they would be.
I've added so many people to a Danny Kirwan group on FB because i want people to hear this beautiful guy sing and play his sweet vibrato! Ty for doing this and the positive vibes here! :)
Thank you for. This upload. I'm a big fan of early fleetwood mac and Danny Kirwan was my favorite guitarist of the group. I discovered his solo work and I really think he didn't have the career he should had.
@jett woodward SO , SO, SO SORRY READING YOUR CONFESSION...WHAT A GREAT GUITAR PLAYER, ANYWAY...WHAT A FANTASTIC BAND FLEETWOOD MAC WERE WITH HIM AND PETER GREEN ...
Wow, I have begun to listen to many of my “B” side music, tired of the relentless repetitive music scene got me to listen especially less mainstream tastes, came to realize how great Mac sounded when Denny was a part of that group; this is quite tasty especially with the wonderful vinyl pops. It’s too bad Americans taste strayed so far from melodic styles, this is good stuff! Thank you for sharing!!!
I like how all three albums are completely different. The first having an old-timey vibe, the second being more rocking, and the third being power pop to pop. All have good material, but whether you enjoy them depends on what you want out of them. If you want more material like he made in Fleetwood Mac, there's not much, though Midnight In San Juan is probably the closest. If you like his early studio outtakes and folksier moments, then Second Chapter is right for you. Hello There Big Boy is a bit more disconnected from his style, but it's present in some songs, and there's some good stuff regardless.
In fact, between his solo albums and the Mac albums that have him guiding the creative direction, he has 7 albums that are completely different from each other.
The perfect combination of McCartney, Mungo Jerry, Bread, Gilbert O'Sullivan, America, Seals and Croft, and Winchester Cathedral by the New Vaudeville Band... ;^) [A little Eleanor Rigby quote here -- 30:14]. He could have used someone to write lyrics. They are weak, though the soft rock music is generally pretty good. Best songs IMO Cascades 28:46 and I Can Tell 32:00 One song is from Fleetwood Mac Only You 1:23:08
This is excellent. Danny and Lindsay are my personal favorite guitar players in the Mac lineups. I'm just not as much of a blues guy, but I can see why many like the Peter Green era.
I can't stop listening to this each song you get something new I just heard what sound like some classic Yes in the song Angel's Delight along with some other groups but I can't get my finger on it maybe Chicago.
danny kirwan second chapter, now I can listen up, since the disc is unavailable , for now anyhow. I'm sure some label will see the worth of this music and release it . For now the ooh tube is fine.
I wonder if any of these songs were written for his next album with FM after Bare Trees. Cascades sounds like it might have been. Is his Hello Big Boy album cover a shot at Bob Welch? It's really similar to the album cover of French Kiss. Lol!
It also has a pinch of country in it with that steel guitar in the background and some of the bass rhythm's, but yet has a big organ sound, strings, horns, plus even orchestra music.
I like this music, and you're right it's alot like early solo Paul McCartney. These daddies are catchy, funny, cute, well written. Love the instruments here too, everything from banjo to horns to clarinet. Almost a New Orleans Mardi Gras type of sound...kind of whimsical.
Now I just heard a cross between the Beach boys and Buddy Holly with a touch of old 50's like Frankie Valli, on the song Summer days and summer nights.
It actually reminds me alot of the Beatles , that was my first time hearing Danny and he is a great gutarist and song writer so is this him singing ? that definitely sounds like a hollow top.
Found Second Chapter in a record store in Portland....that along with Mick Abraham's solo lp were two great finds that day. PS I like you recorded these, it would appear, from vinyl. Nice copy of Second Chapter so far....about 2/3rds through. Looking forward to a morning of new music
Is it just me, or does "Second Chapter" remind others of early Paul McCartney solo albums. Not directly of course, though similar in a way I can't quite describe, though I feel it.
I appreciate your posting these. Not particularly to my taste; they don't really sound particularly inspired or original (no "Dragonfly" or "Dust" here), but I guess it would have been hard to match the synergy he had with the other members of FM, challenging though it was at many times.
for those who appreciate danny’s unique sound, i’d highly recommend checking out the demos/outtakes from his first solo album, second chapter. here's the link: th-cam.com/video/jDUjrg3VfFI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Clpcblj1vwGkqVm7
Hi Tom, did you explore ? I hope so, there is so much brilliant music from the original line up (I like all phases of FM) very British blues of course, Then Play on is a toatal classic, get the expanded version if you buy cd's. I would also recommend the "lost years" of Kirwin,Welch etc. I really think Bob Welch has been done dirty, the albums (inc Mr Wonderful, Bare Trees, Future games etc) with him and Christine are excellent and actually fairly "jazzy!"
