I've never seen someone break it down so well even though I been watching for 20 plus years never understood the sets very well and watching your vids help me have a better understanding, thanks. Yeah that "lebron makes his teammates better" is all a narrative. You can even look at the players stats. They always go down with lebron. Yet when they leave they thrive. Lebron didn't want kcp and now he's a champion on the nuggets
As soon as it hit that 10:09 mark I got worried just like you highlighted. The game slowed all the way down thanks to Malone adjusting and Bron slowing us down to protection ball when AD and D'Angelo hopping is what got us the lead. Ham not having a counter didn't help either. Overall just a snowball effect leading to an unfortunate outcome for us
I’m a huge LeBron fan and unfortunately this is true, the moment he started taking over on the games, I’ve seen the lead go lower and lower. In the first 3 games AD had 6 touches COMBINED in the 4th quarter… not exploiting what actually was making them win.
Great insight bro ! You got great points ! But let’s be real all of bron’s possessions were positive ! The reason why lakers blew the lead was AD’s foul trouble..1 minute after bron sub’d out in the 3rd AD got his 4th foul ! & THATS when Denver got momentum! Not Bron’s “pace” that blew the game
I think you do have to give credit to Malone and the Nuggets as well. Out of halftime the Lakers were having success and the Nuggets were struggling guarding the Bron/AD PnR against Gordon and Jokic who was in drop coverage w/ Murray on the weak-side who was pretty ineffective as the tag on the roll with the size mismatch against AD. Nuggets adjusted putting KCP on Bron, Gordon on AD, & Jokic on Rui. Bron still tried to hunt the Jokic PnR mismatch/action and while it had success for the first few possessions it slowed them down thus going to your point the Lakers offense went stagnant and the rhythm was thrown off (*which is common theme and showed in Game 3). It was a smart adjustment imo bc it allowed Jokic (a bigger play) to defend and help even though he was guarding a good 3pt shooter but I would assume the Nuggets were willing to live with Rui beating them and focus on preventing Lebron from getting to his spots to score or play make, forcing the offense to be even more stagnant. They could have tried to post up AD or even Bron vs the smaller KCP but the Nuggets would shrink the floor and it would be tougher with Jokic in paint patrol. In that case they needed to get some action going involving DLo who had a hot hand or some of their other players like Reaves or potentially Dinwiddie. Call me crazy but it would be interesting if the Lakers did take a play out of the Nuggets playbook and run the high MBS with DLo and AD w/ Bron in the dunker spot *again call me crazy w/ Bron in the dunker and not in primary action lol. It also didn’t help when AD picked up his 4th foul and to your point about DLo he does take some shots that don’t need to be taken like that one in the 3rd. While it was a good look for him it’s more so of having an understanding of time, score, and momentum. Momentum was not on our side the and Nuggets were pushing the pace. It would’ve been smart to slow down and call something. He did do this in game 3 as well I wanna say in the 2nd. However I don’t think all the blame should be on him as I would assume lot of it is frustration where he isn’t getting his touches/shots as well. I thought the game plan for the Lakers and the adjustments made from game 1 to game 2 were good. They switched AD onto Jokic, Rui on MPJ I believe, and Lebron on Gordon for the reasons that one Rui was struggling vs Jokic and two AD was a little too slow on the backside to contest shots or make rotations. Putting Bron on Gordon allows a more mobile defender while still athletic enough to protect the rim and smart enough to play a little cat & mouse game to control the back line. The Spain PnR the Lakers drew up and ran the last few possessions was working for them. Bron missed the shot and the rest was history. Ultimately the Nuggets are just too good. It’s hard to stop Jokic he’s just too big and too skilled. The Murray + Jokic PnR is one of the most lethal actions to guard. Lastly they have a really good supporting cast that knows their roles and gel really well together that have been in tough situations and understand how to handle them based on last season. Guarding the Back screen into a handoff action KCP or MPJ not so easy to guard, taking a play out of the warriors playbook. Idk just some thoughts I thought I share. Curious what you think. I love just learning about the and would call myself a student of the game and like to chop it up with people about basketball x&os etc just to learn more.
Well said “Bron was doing his thing when he was there. It’s what happened when he left, as a result of what he DID!” That’s why Bron is impeccable when it comes to +/- stats, but stats don’t show this negative effect on the team. It makes his teammates look like bum when they are not.
After this game, I realized exactly what happened but couldn’t do a full in-depth analysis like you do. As a Laker fan but not a Lebron fan, I think we lost this game solely due to Lebron trying to control “pace” in the third causing others to lose rhythm. You can clearly feel that if you are watching the game as a true Laker fan. But Bron-sexuals of course are not happy when I say that. Thank you for this kind of analysis to back me up.😂

Honestly Bron’s pace shouldn’t matter!! AD & DLO has to step up whenever LeBron’s out..if anything that gives them more freedom to get their “rhythm” back ! It’s not just about hoisting shots up to keep a rhythm. That’s how you get long rebounds and easy fast break buckets. A ton of those mental lapses were conveniently skipped over too lol Plainly put… the Lakers have to have situational awareness and they need to work half court offense… AFTER Adjustments have been made… and how to GROW a Lead and keep it. Notice how when Golden State had their run… they had 3-4 HIGH IQ guys around Steph who understood 2 things… how to play efficient basketball and how to impact the game in other ways than scoring.
