Getting yourself threatened and having your life flash right before your eyes is enough to traumatize you for weeks and months and if not for years ahead. Whatever we can carry to stop that threat from taking our lives, like pepper spray, is 150 percent Worth It.

I bike and travel all over. I never leave home without my Saber Red and Glock 9mm. (I’ve carried concealed since ‘95.)
And yeah, I, like this man, have gone through OC spray training (burns like fire!). I’d rather be Tased! (Barfed after that one.)

A tip: I don’t chamber a round in my firearm unless I hike in remote areas. Because three times I have had had my life threatened and all I had to do to stop that was chamber a round. People-and pit bulls-know what that sound means and they run away.

This Sabre Red Pepper Spray contains 10% Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) as mentioned, and 1.33% Major Capsaicinoids, a more accurate measurement of a pepper sprays potency and effectiveness.

I'm so glad I found this channel this morning. Good advise forgets of people. My wife always has her can of pepper with her, and I carry it on occasion. There's lots of places where you just can't carry a gun or knife, and do you really want to go that route if you don't have to?? Making holes in one side of someone and out the other is going to be a legal mess anyway you do it. Why not try non lethal means first? Pepper spray is a great tool for everyday carry, and will solve most problems. Back it up with a sturdy metal pen, or a box cutter and you're good to go.
I will admit to being an inner city kid with teenage gang activity in my youth, and was on the opposite side of the law from you. many times growing up. I've been Maced, (1960's) and cut in a knife fight that took place when I used a knife to defend myself. I'll take being sprayed with pepper spray anyway, it saves the stitches and police questioning. I only thank God I had an Uncle, that when my single working class mother couldn't handle me, come up and put a boot in my butt and bounce me off a few walls, and give me a choice of Army, Navy, Marines or Air Force. I took army and got new mentors like Sargent First Class Mouton who did a great job of straitening me out. Back then they had something called Parilizer brand CS tear gas. It worked great as well, and was a lot easier. The modern pepper spray is a step up I understand.
When I retired, the wife and I took a month long trip around the country. We hit Yellowstone in early May and parts of it was not plowed out yet. We learned that we had just missed a bear attack a few days earlier. A tourist couple from New Jersey were walking on a trail not far from their lodge, when they were attacked by a grizzly bear. The man jumped infront of his wife and the bear grabbed him, The wife, a good Newark urban dweller grabbed the pepper spray out of her jacket pocket, sprayed the bear right in the face, the bear let go of the husband and ran off bellowing his rage to the world. Husband had light injuries and some stitches, but was released from the hospital the next day. Saved by a little can of pepper spray they were used to carrying back home in Newark New Jersey. A .357 would not have worked as good in that case.

What a great assessment, thanks so much! I've often wondered about this, especially when I was purchasing the same Sabre product you carry. I opted for the Sabre for the same reasons. I'm over 65 and more worried about the animals that walk upright! I also keep a larger can in the car, along with a reputable 26" telescoping baton (e.g. ASP). I do live in a "shall issue" CCW state; but, I'd rather use non-lethal methods and not have to pay for an attorney. And all of us should avoid the stop-and-rob 24/7 convenient store at 2am!

Good to know. Even though the bear repellent is only 2% I am wondering if the volume of it may make up for the weaker content. I saw a video where a druggie was robbing a pharmacy and someone used bear spray (why they had that there and then I never found out) on the subject and he fled in pain fast. Just the same, I'd stick with the Sabre red (or preferred brand) as it is intended dealing with people. I carry a sidearm and pepper spray for in town. I'd prefer the pepper spray but have a firearm in case the situation called for that. As for the middle of nowhere (especially in black bear country where I go), I do have bear repellant but also a Redhawk .44 mag. Same situation as town, but bigger tools for more powerful creatures, and a .44 mag works just as well on bipeds, though not the primary reason I bought it. Anyway, that's what I do and good video.

    • @ronkostars4258

Pepper spray does weaken with age, but it's the pressurized cylinders that usually fail before the pepper strength is ineffective, thus the 2 to 5 year shelf life on most pepper sprays.

@@TRAVELINGCIVILIAN I have personally used both against unprovoked attackers as a Senior and have been beaten and robbed several times afterwards (Not good for a mid 60's heart patient). They didn't stop the attack at all but they probably suffered a bit from the spray. I was almost killed and in the hospital from one attack in 2019 by a homeless 29 year old schizophrenic lunatic on a walk to pay my property taxes at a nearby County Office unarmed. I got attacked by him on the property of a U.S. Post Office and there were several witnesses so the assailant was apprehended. I had several internal injuries but the lesson that I greatly learned is that my life is more important than any stupid law and to always be armed with an effective weapon legal or not. My motto is No right of Life then no law of any tyranny is respected. They can throw me in jail for protecting my life but afterwards I will retaliate against that tyranny many multiple times over until that tyranny is happily and justly overthrown.

Naturally, when the govt gets involved with anything they phuck it up totally. So the bear spray which should be strong enough to knock the bark off a pine tree is watered down to where its no better than warm beer in the face.
But the little Saber sprayer, that's nice and hot. You should use your thumb to spray it because that gives you better retention if they start slapping at it and it's more of a direct aim technique.
