For those interested in tec details: as already mentioned, this is what most probably the Airbus memory items for windshear escape look like. With the airplane being in "normal law", thus all flight envelope protections active, there is NO risk of stalling because the airplane will inhibit you from doing so , but instead it will allow (and command) to fly at the maximum lifting capability of the wing at a certain moment (CLMAX), thus helping you to escape the situation most quickly. The landing gear and flaps initially remain at the current configuration, as raising the gear would initially increase drag as the gear doors have to open. So that would be detrimental to the climb performance when you need it the most...
Pax here: it was less scary from the inside (except for the first-timers 😅: there was a throw-up, and a mild panic attack), but it was surprisingly steep indeed. My wife has a video, but unfortunately shot from starboard, so it’s nothing but the ocean, and some swearing in Hungarian. I wonder if the pilots do a passenger announcement after a go-around? The video perspective always makes it steeper than it is but I expect it's surely stronger lift than for a normal take off, never experienced one myself.
Those NEOs are powerful. Was flying an Embraer out of a west coast airport one day behind an A321 going to Hawaii, I told the other pilot wake turbulence wouldn't be an issue since we should be able to outclimb an A321 on a 6 hour flight. Spoiler: it was a NEO and we did NOT outclimb it, hit the wake pretty good and rocked us back and forth about 20 degrees.
Since the very first version of the A321 was under-powered it still has this reputation. The A321-200 was already much better in this regard, the Neo really has some power, but of course still cannot match the 757.
This is the standard procedure if for some reason it is not completely safe to land. The sea breeze probably caused turbulence, the plane wobbles. Holy moly!! Whoa, what an incredible video of the Wizzair Airbus A321 executing a super steep go around! It's hard to imagine what the passengers on that flight must have been feeling in that moment. Keep up the amazing work, and keep sharing your unique perspective with the world!
This was hit with very dangerous wind sheer that was about to throw it into the bank behind the runway. Pause it at 0:32 and look where the 321 is to the runway as it takes its climb. It was suddenly far too low, with another sudden wind sheer. The undercarriage was left out for quite some time, so they were going through the check-list procedures of a windsheer go-around. Those abrupt and evasive manoeuvres to a steep climb were scary but absolutely essential, because that 321 was 99% going to crash. I bet the cockpit warnings were going crazy. I know Wizz Air don't have the greatest of reputations but this Captain deserves a beer.
Wizz has great captains and the newest planes. Bad rep comes from sometimes leaving the passengers somewhere without help although it never happened to me and I fly with them a lot.

Easyjet and Ryanair are pretty much infamous for their nonsense and notorious pilots, yet people still pack their planes out all year round.
Wizz Air does have a great reputation when it comes to safety - an almost spotless safety record. Customer service is a different issue, but I take safety over it.

This was a terrain escape maneuver, EGPWS called for a terrain pull due to high rate of descent close to terrain, the maneuver is maximum pitch up, pull the stick full back with max thrust and keep the configuration as it is, this is why the gear was not raised.
Not at terrain escape maneuver, EPGWS is inhibited on thos type of approaches, of course you will have to be visual before turning towards the obstacles/mountainaious area.

You can clearly identify the escape maneuver as the gear and flaps are not retracted, it could potentially be a windshear escape maneuver but I will bet on a terrain as the procedure is to pull the stick full back and give a 20 degrees nose up.
It was far from vertical, just this video is illusive because of the angle it was shot from. Obviously an Airbus can not go "almost vertical" especially not at landing when the speed is reduced it would get stalled immediately, but most probably the computer wouldn't allow such a maneuver.

"Vertical"... khmmm.... is a slight overstatement, to put it extremely euphemistically. This plane has a wingspan of 35,80 m and a length of 44,51 m (roughly a proportion of 7:9). The apparent proportion of wingspan and height at the moment of starting the go around is 7:5. So the actual angle of climb is somewhere around 30 degrees. Which, while being pretty impressive of a loaded commercial airplane, is nothing near vertical (90 degrees).
According to FlightRadar the climbing was absolutely the normal. You just used the optical illusion. The video is nice but the name is a huge clickbait. I hope TH-cam will force to rename it.
There are a lot of desk chair pilots here. If you have a question, ask, don't spread misinformation and don't guess. So what you see here is that they go around for some reason. They pitch up quite far (Airbus has certain protection laws) but that also is perspective since you've just seen the aircraft trying to land and they pretty much fly right over your head. The gear is kept down. That could indicate a wind shear or they just forgot. You don't do a go-around every day and Madeira is a special airport known for wind shear. As far as I know it is captain only. This is the wind shear escape maneuver for Boeing: - TOGA - Push throttles forward - 15 degrees pitch up - After you exit the wind shear, gear up and clean up
It's simply called "Go Around" and there is nothing else to say. Nothing deals with laws... normal law alternative law... yes it looks like a high angle of attack and in this case the thrust will be increased to lower the nose. To be honest. Finally it is the descition of the pilot *to land the aircraft safely*... i joined this situation a lot of times sitting as a flying engineer in the Cockpit while the pilots trying to land the aircraft in high crosswinds...

In 2017 summer night back from Catalonia to Budapest with Wizzair was worse. They just landed on the third try. Was super shaky every landing attempt and pull-back and I was super nervous. Since I hate to fly. People were hugging each other after the successful landing. I guess whoever flew the first time will not fly ever again. On the loudspeaker, the staff told only; excuse us for the delay :D.

I was with Wizzair from Budapest. I was terrified of flying, haven't flew in 10 years. when we landed my mother was like: "yeah, anyways this is a very difficult airport to land at, and sometimes planes just go straight back to Budapest. But I didn't want to tell you that in advance."... thanks mum. (fortunately we got good weather for both landing and take off)
I was on this flight, it was a little bumpy, but the climb was not all that steep as it looks from the outside. I had a window seat, and recorded the whole thing 😊 (swearing in hungarian by some pax are included)

In 2017 summer night back from Catalonia to Budapest with Wizzair was worse. They just landed on the third try. Was super shaky every landing attempt and pull-back and I was super nervous. Since I hate to fly. People were hugging each other after the successful landing. I guess whoever flew the first time will not fly ever again. On the loudspeaker, the staff told only; excuse us for the delay :D.
Air travel is by far the safest way to move around. Your pilots did not take chances.

I was with Wizzair from Budapest. I was terrified of flying, haven't flew in 10 years. when we landed my mother was like: "yeah, anyways this is a very difficult airport to land at, and sometimes planes just go straight back to Budapest. But I didn't want to tell you that in advance."... thanks mum. (fortunately we got good weather for both landing and take off)

I was on this flight, it was a little bumpy, but the climb was not all that steep as it looks from the outside. I had a window seat, and recorded the whole thing 😊 (swearing in hungarian by some pax are included)
