TORINO - Reggia di Venaria Reale

La reggia di Venaria Reale è una delle Residenze Sabaude e parte dell' UNESCO .
La reggia di Venarìa fu progettata dall'architetto Amedeo di Castellamonte. A commissionarla fu il duca Carlo Emanuele II che intendeva farne la base per le battute di caccia nella brughiera collinare torinese.

This is the most incredible building I think I have ever seen, or is it because it is mainly empty of furniture so you can actually SEE all the details of the decorated spaces. As a 'normal' human I find the luxury of these extreme wealth inspired palaces to be something beyond understanding.
The craftsmanship is amazing of course, the many artisans employed is a great thing....but.....did/do the extremely wealthy really think that their surroundings need to impress the world....of course we are impressed, but it says the opposite of their character than what they think they are telling us - this wealth does not make us admire THEM, merely marvel at the opulence & sheer gob-smacking ridiculousness of what they did/do & the genius of the people who create such places.
