“They (conservatives) don't get it. Liberals love America just as much as Conservatives do, but in a different way. Conservatives love America the way a four year old loves her mommy. Liberals love America as grown-ups. To a four year old everything mommy does is wonderful and anyone who criticizes mommy is bad. Grown-up love means actually understanding what you love, taking the good with the bad, and helping your loved one grow.” ~ Al Franken

@Steve GracyIn this case, it appears that you're overly simplistic rebuttal of Franken's quote is limiting you to an overly simplistic understanding of the subject matter and it is you who are dodging. The complexities of economic and fiscal policies-ideologies require a wider scope than you are affording. For me, I'm in the middle. There is a need for both the private and public sectors in a healthy and moral economic system and you continue to prove that Franken was spot on in his analysis of your simplistic hyper-partisan ideology.
Well, if you absolutely have to have a hate object, Trump will do, I suppose. I’m amazed (and very discouraged) at how many people seemingly cannot feel good about themselves without mocking someone else. Sad. Very sad.
This is b.s. right wing apologia. Trump is not a "hate object". He has worked hard to earn, and fully deserves, all the hatred that so many people feel towards him. You give neither Trump nor the people who hate him any credit when you make straw man arguments.
Jim Merrilees I did not vote for Donald Trump, but extreme hatred of any person or group of people breeds things like antifa and other forms of violence and uncivil behavior. I know no one likes to think of himself as a hater, but if it’s not love and it’s not indifference, what is it? I worry that after someone gets into the habit of indulging in feeling superior and self-righteous, it never ends. It’s an addiction. When your favorite hate object disappears or falls out of favor of the mob’s fascination, you will look for another. That says a lot more about the hater than it does the hated.

The Bible is a fullfilled, dead book. Jesus already finished his work and he is not part of our world today. God is real, but he is more deistic today. Okay, so, I've listened up to 22 minutes so far and I am a bit confused. The guest just listed libertarians alongside a group of cults. If he means the Libertarian Party, I guess I would be interested to hear the explanation of how that is a cult given I don't know much about them. The plain ideology of straight-up libertarianism though is an ideal level of social control on the populace as exerted by any form of government. That not only doesn't fit the model of a cult, it doesn't even fit the requirements to be a group. Continuing on, when Seth asks about "fear control" and the guest Mr Hassan talks about fears of Islamic migrants, other general foreigners and dark-skinned peoples, the sort of people who have an perpetuate these fears are not honestly equatable to "all Trump supporters" or "all right-wing people". My assertions here are based on personal experience with these sorts of people both online in in real life, so anyone who wishes to challenge me can go ahead and present proof that the people I'm talking about are not actually in the groups I claim them to be. In my town and at my place of work, there are a number of people who openly support Trump. Of the 5 coworkers I have managed to talk about current events with, not a one of them has expressed the sentiment of fearing foreigners (who we get weekly as customers), dark-skinned people (who we have daily as customers AND coworkers) or people of the Islamic faith (who we also get weekly as customers). These are as opposed to some of the online people I have seen disparage these groups of people, who are outraged at President Trump for being in their view much too soft on people deserving of some sort of retribution. Specifically, they call him an agent of the state of Israel. Overall, while I have no reason to doubt this guest's authority on the structure and workings of a cult, I do think what exists here is a misidentification of a set of people from a number of actual groups being conglomerated into a single entity. Specifically, each group's most prominent aspect is being considered a characteristic of the assumed collection of groups. Is there the seeds of a cult there? Sure. That's how it is with any powerful person with any charisma. Is there an actual cult though? I would encourage deep research into every aspect listed in this video and my own claims as well. I honestly think that'd be the most enlightening for anyone who comes here.

A lot of people voted for Trump for the same reasons they voted for Obama. He ran as a change candidate; a political novice and outsider to the system who would shake up the status quo, stand up for working people, end corruption, and roll back US foreign interventions. He was charismatic and knew how to get tons of attention from the media. He ran on identity politics. He simplified complex issues into pithy slogans. He actually ran to the left of his opponent, Hillary Clinton, on numerous issues. However, once he got into office, he immediately filled his cabinet with Wall Street cronies. He continued and escalated the wars. He abandoned his promises to the working class, and gave huge tax cuts to his wealthy donors. He became the kind of corporate tool he railed against as a candidate. He did little more than continue the terrible policies of previous administrations. Trump is a direct consequence and continuation of Obama's legacy. He's a symptom of a broken and corrupt system. And neither party likes to hear this.

Objectivism is an easy cult. It caught up the members of Rush until they stopped reading Rand's fiction and started reading RAND HERSELF. Rush had initially been enamored by Rand's character John Galt after the band's managers and the record label suits told them to make more "Happy little 3 1/2 minute radio songs". The "Atlas Shurgged" protagonist began to embody the creative spirit being crushed by the corporate eggheads. Rush bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee's parents were Holocaust survivors and he immediately denounced the bitch and subsequently, drummer Neil Peart also admitted it had been a mistake to invoke her platform, such as in the Rush song "The Trees". Besides John Galt's responsibility was to engineer SAFE-TO-DRIVE-ON bridges, not creative music, so the band's analogy was fucked from the git-go.

The Cult of Trump book is terrific. I've started reading it. Opus Dei, The Family and others have had a very strong influence, allegedly, on selections for the Supreme and Federal Courts.
@Steve Gracy I guess that you've never met K street.
Steve liberals want gov't to regulate banks and large corporations for the same reason we don't let drug dealers and murderers arrest and prosecute themselves. Whereas conservatives want us to believe banks and corps will do the right thing all on their own, when they have proven they won't.
@Steve Gracy I think her points were very applicable. Fascism works as well as Communism. They are both totalitarian.
I strongly disagree. Any criticism of Obama during his reign and his worshipers would react in violent infantile rage.
I love the "We're a cult? No, YOU'RE a cult!" sprinkled throughout the comment section.
it would be nice if the two realities could just collide already
Love the idea of helping people to “reprogram” themselves through goodwill. Really gives me a lot of hope about these next four years.

Aren't they the ones with the indoctrination music videos?
Well, if you absolutely have to have a hate object, Trump will do, I suppose. I’m amazed (and very discouraged) at how many people seemingly cannot feel good about themselves without mocking someone else. Sad. Very sad.
Do you think that perhaps you could maybe, just maybe, set your standards a little higher than Trump does?
Jim Merrilees Civil debate is not a bad idea. It’s what mature, self-possessed people do.
Jim Merrilees I am not talking about Donald Trump, I am talking about you.
Donald Trump doesn't think.....so his ability to think is an oxymoron.

The Bible is a fullfilled, dead book. Jesus already finished his work and he is not part of our world today. God is real, but he is more deistic today. He only gets involved when he really needs to and allows mankind to govern ourselves with him as an oversier. Everyone has access to God without mediation today. This is why the world is so messed up today because of our religions.

I'm not kidding. Cult of Trump is still in my search window from yesterday. I subscribe so this popped up without me searching that again.
What are the Social and Environmental variables?

They sure as hell look at Trump as a godlike figure now!

You can however have a significant impact at the local level. Real change happens from the bottom up.
