    Finally a video which gives a method for enough slack all videos just say “get as much as u need” and how am I supposed to know that 😂

    • @Midlanflyguy
      @Midlanflyguy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      Right? Doesn't matter how little or much slack I leave I still end up with 10 wraps around each tuner peg 🤣

    • @fredymendez855
      @fredymendez855 3 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      The worst part is some don’t tell you how to properly install the string into the knobs and his method with turning the string. I broke 2 strings already because of that. This is my first time changing strings and believe me I was dreading for this day.

    • @danferg100
      @danferg100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The most common rule of thumb is pull each string (2) tuning pegs past the specific peg for each string. I go 2.3 pegs past just to be sure. I use a different method for the first wrap than some videos. Just make sure that you have some sort of bend of the string over or under the string in the first wind to ‘lock’ it. Wound strings (low E, B, and D) strings, pull the end of string over the rest of string. Wound strings (G, B, high E), wrap first wrap over and second wrap under the rest of string. Too much extra string winding created more potential for tuning issues. Hope this helps.

      @Levi89723 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did this method and ended up with loads of winds around the tuner

    The part where you have to wrap the string around the peg I cannot get that part right.... i wrap it around and then it just pops loose and back over the peg.... do you have to pull the string tight to kind of secure it in place before you start winding???

      After you wrap it, keep hold of the string and keep tension, then with the other hand bend the excess up and then wind with that hand, the whole time keep tension on the string with the hand you wrapped with.

    based on the fact that I have started the adventure with my electric guitar around 25 years ago, when I was 12-13 years old, I doubt I would be cutting the strings because as a kid, you you would still keep them safe as a "spare ones"
    Nowadays.... 2 days ago ordered a new set of strings for a price (with delivery) of a coffee from Starbucks.
    How times are changing.....

    On a Strat or a Tele I would cut off almost no string at all on the top strings so that the strings go down from nut to string tree and down again from string tree to tuner. Extra winds on a post are less 'sticky' I've found, than a butterfly tree

  • @lynnfournier2327

    On Stratocasters and guitars with floating bridges, I prefer to put the strings on one at a time and bring each string to close to tune. This keeps the bridge tension in the same relative position. If I take all the strings off, then the bridge has collapsed due to spring tension. This results in time-consuming tuning to bring the bridge back up to its correct balance or neutral position.

    I re-strung my old electric for the first time in years. Despite leaving plenty of slack, every time I threaded a string through the machine head and wrapped it around with the tuning peg once, the strings all sounded very tight -- like they might snap at any moment. I actually snapped by high E after barely getting it above the correct pitch. So now I've got a 5-string guitar and they all look pretty unstable and I'm getting a little buzz when I play on the 12 fret of the B and G strings... can someone tell me what may be wrong anatomy-wise with my guitar? Thanks.

      It can vary based on the guitar but we'd recommend at least 3-4 clean wraps for an unwound string. That amounts to about 2-3" of slack. You can use the space between your high E and G string tuners as reference. Thanks!

Yours is the best video on this rather basic topic, specifically with regard to string slack and the proper methods for wrapping around the post. It was only after watching your video, several times, that I restrung my Strat exactly the way I wanted to, pinching the end of the string between the upper and lower wraps. Thank you again.
