If you come back when Dortmund is playing in Bundesliga or Champions League, the stadium will be 20 times louder than yesterday. Otherwise, it’s a great vlog and it was interesting to see some impressions from the view of an away fan
I used to be based in Dortmund when I was in the British Army. Spent many Saturdays watching Dortmund. Great city, great people, great stadium and great, friendly supporters. Up the Villa

Hey, a tip here from Dortmund: If you come to Dortmund again, you can send an e-mail to BVB beforehand and let the club know that you would like to have non-carbonated water. Include the block for which you have tickets. Then the kiosks near your block will have still water. Hardly anyone in Germany buys it and the club is not allowed to sell tap water for hygiene reasons. There are also water dispensers in various places in the stadium. Ask at the kiosk for a cup (costs max. 2 € deposit). You can fill them at the water dispensers or at the washbasins in the toilets. In Germany, this is all drinking water that comes out of the tap and is often of better quality than bottled water. Greetings from Dortmund

It was Season opening which is more for families and the Ultras stay away. Thus, the atmosphere is very different to a BL or CL match.

By the way the reason why it was so „quiet“ in the stadium was that our Ultras have been supporting at the Dortmund 2nd team match in Bielefeld who played at 4:30 pm on Saturday. It was their 2nd league match in the 3rd division already. Let me tell you a story. Back in August 1972 I spent a couple of weeks in Dortmund before I started work. I was taking the coach back to Bham on a Saturday afternoon and the pick up point was Dortmund stadium. When I arrived I was wondering why there were so many people around and then I saw it..Dortmund v Aston Villa, 3 pm kick off, and guess what time my coach departed, yup 3 pm!!! Never been so pissed off in all my life!!!!

In Dortmund you must eat the German Currywurst by Wurst Willi near the Train Station .Yesterday the fans of the Yellow Wall where not in Dortmund ,they were at the same time in Bielefeld where the amateurs from.BVB played . Yesterday was also a family day and especially reserved for children . 💛🖤
It was always the San Siro for me after Italia 90, I got to go there when Villa played Inter Milan in the Uefa Cup in the 90's, we lost on the night but won the 2nd leg going through on pens! UTV

I was there in Dortmund for my first live Villa game ever. Saw you and Simon in the Alte Markt square drinking beers. Was too shy to get closer and talk to you. Anyway, great vibes all around Dortmund, Signal Iduna Park asthonishing and loving seeing Dibu back, althought he couldn't save that penalty for us. A bit dissapointed by not playing with Watkins since I felt we had 0 threat at front and Archer denied me the chance to shout my first live Villa goal. I hope Emery sort this mess out soon. I know Villa fans are not happy with Duran but as a Colombian fan I hope you can give him another chance this season with Champions and Premier games coming. UP THE VILLA!!!
In regards to water: I don't know if you saw them, but there are actually water suspenser scattered throughout the stadium, where you can get tap water for free.

For me this is a bit like an F1 practice session, in that we don’t really know what we are seeing. How intense are we playing? How much of the 11 is the real first 11? Are they focusing on fitness? Last pre season we showed our hand in USA while Newcastle hid theirs in terms of tactics and the opening day was a different story. It seems that it’ll be 2 or 3 games before we know what we are, but you can’t imagine that Unai has taken his eyes off the prize. With the nature of the transfer window and summer tournaments involving our stars, it might be a slow start, but I’m sure we’ll get there eventually!

Last year (bar opening day) we came out of the blocks very quick in the opening part of the season, but peatered out at the back end. I imagine this year we will pace ourselves a bit better, which might mean a slower start. That said our fixtures this preseason have been our toughest ever? Bit of a change to playing Wycombe and Shrewsbury in 2021!

Saw you in a couple of places over there . Dusseldorf for the first part and train into Dortmund. Fantastic ground ,though we were right at the back behind the goal where the majority of Villa were. amongst their fans .For 81,000 atmosphere very flat although it was only a friendly. We were poor passing was very off and the longer the game went on the poorer we got . Only a friendly but ---!!?

Apart from the fact that there was no real atmosphere from the BVB fans on the day, it has to be acknowledged without envy that the fans of Premier League clubs have much better chants. Very creative lyrics, varied songs for individual players and the team or funny “shame songs” for the opponents. Good luck for the season! 🤞👍
This is not Dortmund or BVB or the South, there were only event fans there and is nothing comparable to anything when it comes to the Bundesliga or the Champions League. It's actually the sad Dortmund.
Please keep in mind the Ultras were not present. They generally boycott games like that, so the atmosphere was not as close as good as it usually is, so hope to see you in CL again 🫶
My friend never go to a friendly in Germany for the atmosphere. Ultras never really come to those matches. Friendlies are nice for a relaxed day of watching football with your family and the atmosphere is more like a match in England. Also extremely important: IT'S CALLED WESTFALEN STADION NOT SIGNAL IDUNA PARK!
Not worried TOO much yet because the transfer window is not closed and because it will take some time for this team to gel, but when we bring in Geertruida and Felix we'll look a better side

I drove from Essex and only took me 6 hours due to traffic. I was born in Münster and lived in Unna Massen when me dad was in the army. However the villa worrying
I think need to buy a decent quality backup gk. I am sorry but if we are truly an ambitious football club we would not keep a goalkeeper (Robin Olsen) that is not even good enough to be a backup gk for Sheffield United and is the reason why we got knocked out of cup competitions 4 times. In the Carabao cup when Villa played against Man United and Everton. In the FA Cup against a league 2 Stevenage side at the time and In the Europa Conference league semi final against Olympiakos. He also concedes an average of 2.9 goals per match which means that on average villa are expected to score at least 4 goals to win a football match which is ridiculous because even Man City can’t score 4 goals in every football match that they play. They really need to buy a decent quality backup gk because I’ve been saying it for the last 2 seasons and I’m just sick and tired of saying it. I would rather watch a Steven Gerrard Villa side with emi Martinez in goal than an Unai emery Villa side with Robin Olsen in goal.
We got gauchi. Emery trust him imo. He started most of the pre season game before emi coming in yesterday and hes also good on the ball and good at shot stopping.
Still feel we concede too many goals! That was our problem last season and it’s showing in preseason! We need a CB who’s quick to cope with our high line! And I feel another winger, right back & striker! But in Emery we trust! UTV

I think need to buy a decent quality backup gk. I am sorry but if we are truly an ambitious football club we would not keep a goalkeeper (Robin Olsen) that is not even good enough to be a backup gk for Sheffield United and is the reason why we got knocked out of cup competitions 4 times. In the Carabao cup when Villa played against Man United and Everton. In the FA Cup against a league 2 Stevenage side at the time and In the Europa Conference league semi final against Olympiakos. He also concedes an average of 2.9 goals per match which means that on average villa are expected to score at least 4 goals to win a football match which is ridiculous because even Man City can’t score 4 goals in every football match that they play. They really need to buy a decent quality backup gk because I’ve been saying it for the last 2 seasons and I’m just sick and tired of saying it. I would rather watch a Steven Gerrard Villa side with emi Martinez in goal than an Unai emery Villa side with Robin Olsen in goal.
We got gauchi. Emery trust him imo. He started most of the pre season game before emi coming in yesterday and hes also good on the ball and good at shot stopping.

Still feel we concede too many goals! That was our problem last season and it’s showing in preseason! We need a CB who’s quick to cope with our high line! And I feel another winger, right back & striker! But in Emery we trust! UTV
While it has served us well I think we need to not always use the high line against certain teams it's very dangerous
