    Sometimes you can just heat the frosting in the microwave and it will be more liquid so you don't have to add milk. You do excellent though. My name is Roxane and I live in Toledo Ohio and I love 💕 watching you on you tube.

    Don’t forget to make green smoothies with the spring mix. It freezes well and crumbles down into small pieces for smoothies.

    I'm looking up recipes and writing them down. My new one for rice with a egg done eggplant and a Banana Ketchup to drizzle over light. Things to make with things we have. I'm already hooked on Mango hot salsa for a dip or over rice with chicken.

    At my foodbank volunteer gig, I scored some cheeses and dips. Love that kind of stuff for snacking. I even grabbed a box of Pita chips (slightly crushed but not outdated) to go with the dips. I generally don't take the meat and dairy items but there was so much this week and I knew the dips wouldn't last long in the foodbank fridges. There was a nice spinach/artichoke dip, some wholly guacamole, and some fancy specialty cheeses. I also grabbed some deli chicken wings - they were labeled buffalo wings but were definitely BBQ sauce - not hot wings.
    I recued some of the produce that was headed for the compost rather than the giveaway tables - a bruised apple, broken zucchinis, a package of last weeks strawberries (still good, just didn't look as nice as the ones donated this week), and lastly a container of sliced baby bella mushrooms that had the plastic broken. I washed and cooked the mushrooms with onion and butter that night for dinner.
    For some reason, we get tons of bagged salads and the ones in the bowl from the deli. I always take 2 or 3 because I will eat them for sure.
    This week we sadly had to compost a bunch of bagged salads that nobody has grabbed over the last couple of weeks. I had to remind the other volunteers to save the condiment/topping packets as those are still good. I took home some sunflower seeds just to snack on.....

    Old fly remedy for flies my grandmother did once that worked.
    Fill a Mason jar with water and for a pint jar without the jelly jar design. My grandparents would take pint or quart Mason jars abd fill them with water, put in 2 pennies. Put on lids and put a string tied to the neck of the bottle to have enough string for the neck of the bottle to be 6 inches below the doorway and hang in the openings of the windows.
    I lived with them for 2 years when I was a child and the first spring my grandmother set up the jars with strings and made my grandpa hang them up in the windows and doorways.
    She never had to do it again after grandpa got sick of hitting his head on the mason jar everytime he went in abd out the open door. He got grandma screen doors and window screen making sure to put them on every spring. Because grandma would ask him to put up the screens 1 time and if he didn't do it she woukd say, "I guess I have to break out the jars and pennies." He would do it right away after hearing that. Lol
    Tip: make sure the Mason jar is up high enough you and the kids do not hit your heads.

    If you heat the icing in Chef Mike for a few seconds it will soften the icing. Then you dip. The icing will harden on the pops. I have made many of them like that. I have the old metal pop bake pans. I also use drink straws for the sticks.

    I freeze that slaw mix in quart bags and then I add it to my vegetable soup, I just did three bags last week this way. I also got big 10 pound bag of restaurant ketchup which I put into pint jars and recanned in boiling water bath for 35 minutes 22 jars and refilled my icebox bottle, so I have ketchup for a while. I could make bar-b-q sauce to if I want. If no one figures out what to do with that ketchup it will just be thrown out they had a pallet of it. I froze a lot of bread to. Opened a number 10 can of tomatoe sauce used some to make chili and canned 2 quarts in boiling water bath for 45 minutes. Needless to say I was busy canning. I just cannot stand to see food go to waste. About forgot I sliced mushrooms and froze 4 bags of mushrooms for pizza toppings.

      @@mamabairds I forgot to tell you I have a friend that works at another pantry stop by and bring me 4 containers of cherry tomatoes, The pantry was done for the month and she cannot stand to see stuff thrown away so she takes stuff to people who she knows will use it, she does this all the time with would be thrown away food. The people who run mouth about people taking food do not know the whole story about what happens with food and they just stop people from getting food that they need and get the food thrown in the dump. Keep spreading the word about the food so people do not feel bad about taking it.

    They closed cracker barrels. But we've had like 15 restaurant shut down here in the past two weeks. Normally a plate of food at cracker barrel was about twelve ninety-five 1595 with. After the pandemic it went up to 25 a person. So a lot of the restaurants are shutting down. I used to eat at the food carts a lot and I could get something for like 12.00 now same food cart is 19.00 .... We just can't afford to eat out

    • @mamabairds
      @mamabairds  ปีที่แล้ว

      I see that. I know I left the industry as a line cook and found other ways to make more money than I was getting there. Plus it's really hard work. And with the cost going up for everything, I agree, we can't afford as most, to eat out anymore.

    We’re having a few restaurants close because they can’t find employees (even tho they’re offering high wages.) A lot of restaurants have also shut down certain days of the week, or shortened their hours (same reason…can’t find people to work there, as well as inflation. I know we don’t eat out as much due to price increases giving us less ‘flexible money’ for fun, unfortunately.) Probably a combo of the two are causing restaurants to close or limit hours. I was curious if when you wash the pepper bacon if it reduces the intensity of the pepper taste? (I think you said your kids weren’t a fan, and I noticed some flavored bacon at the store on sale…a flavor I don’t like…and I thought of you and was curious.)

    • @mamabairds
      @mamabairds  ปีที่แล้ว

      yes it does help reduce the pepper taste!! I just do it on the ends that have a lot of it, but even the bacon grease can be too pepper when I use it to toast bread for them. They ask why the grilled cheese is spicy?! Haha

But hay it's just one city should we go to the next city. When I call family every where it's going on and family talking to moving in on land with other family being worried for the worse . Spread the love get garden plants going. Some are priced at $8.00 a vegetable for one. We went to the grower's.
