Really good video...I think the first kit is right on the limits of being a true pocket kit...in fact, I think many people would either end up chucking in their pack or leave it behind especially in the summer months when you are wearing light clothing..That is where a well thought out altoid/ tobacco tin size kit shines...

One of my Suunto compasses had almost 5° deviation out the box after comparing it to my other compasses. Sent it back.
nice kits my favourite thing has to be the jigsaw. i would have thought either handle would be 2 small or saw blade would be but i guess not.

Always consider spending money on a emergency locator beacon..@ $300.. but no other fees.. register it and if you get in trouble raise the tiny antenna and push the button! If you want something for communication spot communicator which has monthly fees but you can communicate and it also has.. emergency locator beacon button.. don't leave home without it

They take up a little more space than the smaller ones you're carrying, but they roll up nicely. Re: the Sailmaker's needles, I need to send you guys some of our Wm. Smith & Son needles. They're plenty sharp, and come in all sizes. I think you'll like 'em.

First time viewer, watching from my "secret retirement location" on Luzon in the Philippines. Today's video caused me to rethink once again the many products we simply can not find locally and the super high cost of shipping from the US and/or other non-Asean countries. It really is hit or miss. I was able to order genuine P38 &P51 can openers and a KaBar from a local company in Manila. Other items we are not so fortunate. One good thing is, I am able to roam up and down the General Douglas MacArthur national highway and find a craftsman who will fabricate to order just about anything we want if I can not do so. Need a custom size pouch, there is a seamstress waiting to help. Even our YaYa has done alterations for me by hand in her spare time! No shortage of talented people here. Creating your own gear may be a future topic? Enough blather, time to whack the subscribe button.

Instead of carrying protein bars you should carry a couple snickers. Snickers I think are the best protein source in bar form. Are they the healthiest? No. But I promise they will give you all of the carbs, fats and calories you need and satisfy your sweet tooth...you need that glucose

I definitely would carry minimum one large trash bag.. preferably a heavy contractor 55 gallon trash bag.. but definitely a trash bag or 2 .. stuff leaves in the bag to sleep on so the ground doesn't steal your body heat... You can also make a poncho out of the trash bag.. or use it to carry things in
Point of information : the (whirl bags) , were originally marketed as ( whirl pak ) bags and handled by a company called NASCO back in the early seventies.
Enjoy your videos but maybe the next one you should put the dog out before hand. Very annoying.

My bug out bag and my survival kit have to take a chihuahua into consideration.
Couple space blankets in first kit and spider wire fishing line for cordage

Id wrap the one side or other with 550 or maybe 40 lb braid fishing line nice compact kit . British mess tin think the Swiss did use it too
No the Swiss use a deep kidney shaped pot with a lid that serves as a pan, similar to the German and many other central/Eastern European armies. The rectangular mess tin was introduced in the British Army in the 30s to supercede the older oval deep pots/lid pans which they'd used in WW1 and were subsequently adopted by many Empire armies (Aus, NZ, India, South Africa etc.) as well as the Dutch post WW2.

on that BIC lighter I would either put a piece of wire or small zip tie around the top to keep from accidently letting the gas out.

The reason that a lot of bush crafters bring sail needles instead of regular needles is that bush crafters usually will bring and use surplus equipment usually composed and made of heavy duty material usually canvas. Canvas is thick and the small regular needles will not be able to puncture the fabric.
I use the same needles on leather. They go through canvas great.
